The Ultra microSD costs $69 and you get a free Sandisk SSD is another way to look at this deal.

  • +3

What's the deal with all these SD/SSD bargains?

Is a new factory about to open cutting costs, so there's going to be a dive across the board? Higher capacities soon to be the norm and manufactures flogging their stocks? Something else?

Either way, I'm not complaining. I kind of wish I didn't have so many cards and drives already so I could take advantage of these deals.

    • +2

Its because of a new breakthrough technology in SSD's that will be cutting the costs and increasing capacities. Read more here http://www.wired.com/2015/03/10-tb-ssd-intel/

      • …10 fold?!

      • wasn't Samsung using 3D NAND for a long time? I was surprised to see this article referring to that as a breakthrough from Intel and Micron!

        • This has 3x the capacity of competing 3D NAND memory. 256gb samples are currently available for vendors. You'll see this in the market in early 2016.

    • As Crownanchor mentioned below the technology is simply getting better over time. There is an observation called Moore's Law which I quote below from wikipedia:

"…over the history of computing hardware, the number of transistors in a dense integrated circuit has doubled approximately every two years." Source.

I used to work in electrical retail ~8 years ago and the standard SD cards at the time were around 1GB or 2GB. I remember each time new stock arrived the cost price would be less than the previous order. I would literally rotate stock like it was fresh produce (old at the front, new at the back) to avoid selling old stock under cost later on.

    Msy checks arseOZbargain confirmed!

  • Great deal! :D

  • This is exactly what I need right now!

EDIT: Nevermind, don't like the site, couldn't find the 120GB listed on the stores I tried… too hard basket. Found a better option for me since I don't need more MicroSD's anyway - Amazon, if you're not located near a MSY store - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/202825

    • +1

      128GB

      But-yes, their site is CLUNKY.

      • Lol I'm a doofus. It was late at night, I was searching 120 not 128 GB. Well spotted :)

I'll check again to see shipping costs but unless its <$10 it's probably not worthwhile for me.

$13.65 makes it a no deal for me, probably only worth it if you really need the 32GB card.

        • I don't know about this specific deal. But most msy deals allow for free pick up in store. (If you live near one)

        • @Larz128:

Nearest to me is 3hr drive. Maybe if I had an electric car ;)

  • +1

I don't like MSY. Buy online, pick up in store. Good luck! :)

  • Can I replace my old notebook harddrive with SSD drive?

    • Yep, as long as your notebook has a sata connection.

You may also need to use some cloning software to get all of your data/windows installation across.

This can be quite a bit more difficult if your current used data is bigger than the new ssd's size.

      Good luck!

    • +1

it depends how old your notebook is.
If your old notebook at least uses core2duo/dual core processor, you can replace the hdd with ssd.
I don't know older processors. I replaced hdd from my Fujitsu ST5112 with SSD and it runs faster than before.

      • I once upgraded my Acer D255 atom netbook with SSD, doesn't improve a bit at all. Guess it is CPU dependant too!

        • Performance of any system can be choked by any component. Atoms can be asthmatic at the best of times. Low amount of RAM… could be anything. Not the SSD, as it was the fattest pipe in the machine.

    • It's not that simple. Some notebooks don't even allow you to access the hard drive, because of the way it's built. Try and open it up and see if you can remove it easily.

      • What ones?

  • -5

This deal is not arse certified.

  • +1

Is this the part where we should wait until tomorrow when TA can get a rep to match or beat this deal?

  • Anyone in Sydney need the microSD and wanna split the cost with me? :)

    • Yes, how much for SD? Would you do it for 15 shipped? An envelope should be good enough for an SD card yea?

      • +6

As per title, splitting the cost would be illumination paying $69 for the SSD and you paying $0 for the SD ;)

        • -3

          Wouldn't splitting be $69/2? i.e. $34.50 each ;)

        • LOLOLOL now that's a fair trade :D!

      • I would, but one problem.
I'm not able to make it to MSY (I'm not in the country), so would need someone who is able to go to the store.

        • Ahhh same problem for me, I could get to MSY however I'm pretty busy tomorrow, really unlikely for me to be able to make it there.

        • @Zylam Marex: Ah shame, that's alright. Let's hope there's someone who might come around who can help us out!

        • @Zylam Marex:

Zylam u still keen on the microsd card? I may have time to go to auburn msy tomorrow. Happy to send for $15 shipped.

        • @andyman1908:

Sounds awesome buddy, count me in! However are you sure the deal will be on tomorrow? Don't MSY change it everyday. But if you do score it, send the SD my way and I'll PayPal you! :D!

        • +1

On the link it says online and instore wed 15/7 and thurs 16/7 so should be fine.

        • @andyman1908:

Cool that's awesome, if you happen to grab it im ready! :D!

        • @Zylam Marex: Got one mate, send me a pm with your address and ill send out tomorrow while I'm at the post office.

        • +1

@Zylam Marex: You guys did well. Jealous. haha

        • +1

          @illumination:

Yep im happy, effectively paying $55 for the ssd :) Zylam lived down the road from me so made the whole transaction very straightforward!

        • @illumination:

LOL sorry you missed out buddy! Yea Andy was crazy kind and dropped it off in my mail box, what a great guy! Also good to know a fellow Ozbargain is in the neighborhood!

        • @andyman1908:

Was a really great deal for the both of us, there is much power in the group buy system :D!

        • @Zylam Marex: No biggie! I wasn't in the country otherwise I would've been happy to have done it (and then andy would've missed out hahaha).

    128gb?

    • +2

YES, congratulations - 128GB is what is says.

      So your question is?

      • +1

Is this an SSD from SanDisk? Can anyone confirm?

        • +3

How many eneloops do you need to run it?

        • +1

no its a MicroSD, read the title

        • is it an ssd?

      • that the title is mistaken? just trying to help.

i believe the 128gb is actually older but better?

        lol who negged me?

        • +4

to be clear, when i made my comment last night the title was wrong and read 120gb.

  • +1

What controller does this SSD use?

  • Is this deal still valid? Can't find anything mentioned on their website anymore, and if it was the 'deal of the day' it looks like it is no longer an option… http://www.msy.com.au/waonline/452-deal-of-the-day
SSD page itself doesn't have anything mention about the 32gb card http://www.msy.com.au/waonline/hard-drive/15245-sandisk-ssd-…

    • It starts today (15th July) but doesn't seem to work online yet, I'm going to try again later today after 9am

      • Ahh ok cheers, guess I'll try later.

    • Hi Shibbyyy. Here's the link (it's also updated in the post)

      http://edm.msy.com.au/15072015/online/html.html

      • Thanks I did see that in 2nd post, hopefully
it's available online later considering they mention it in the ad.

    • It seems that the last "Deals of the Day" are still up there. Waiting for a refresh to todays. Really want a 128GB, been waiting for a price deal like this.

  • anybody see the deal (online) ? Or has it been already sold out ??

  • Heads up, don't buy the D-Link modem they've got on specials too:

    http://www.productreview.com.au/p/d-link-dsl-2544n.html

  • Guys, do you need a motherboard that supports SATA3 in order to use the SSD drive?

My computer is around 8yrs old (SATA2 days) so just wondering if it will be compatible.

    • +4

      nope, backwards compatible

  • This or the Sandisk SSD Plus 120GB???
Is there a big difference in performance between the two?

    • +1

      Splitting hairs.
Sitting two identical machines side-by-side, pressing keys at the EXACT same time, queuing-up a ton of stuff… you might see a couple of seconds difference, at most.

They're entry level SSDs, from a tier1 company, that are mental fast and C-H-E-A-P.

      You can't lose.

      • +1

Thank You Utopian… On my way to MSY now.

According to Sandisk the SSD has slightly faster write and slightly slower read compared to the SSD Plus…

But like Utopian said - you won't notice a difference IRL…

  • -2

does anyone know if these msata on the inside a full size case?

    • +1

      ..

    • Yeah it's uh, not that easy. Either you know what you put into a desktop because you built it, or you can look up specs of the prebuilt one you bought. But even with that wildly nonspecific data I'd probably hazard a guess at no. Check your manual/product info of either your PC or motherboard.

    • +1

yes size msata on the these computer any full case does.

    • You can get an adaptor on ebay. Like this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Quality-MINI-SATA-MSATA-TO-7-…

  • Anyone knows if this would work on a MBP 2007?

  • If anyone is interested i am going to take it I live in Sydney and would like to sell the 32gb sd

  • I can't see the deal, is it finished?

    • There's a banner on their site but it just directs you to yesterdays 'deal of the day'… I'm trying to figure out how to buy it also. Guess the just don't want to take my money.

  • Is it still not available online? I click on the picture on the link provided previously and that does f all.

  • Thanks OP. Picked one up in store after visiting lackluster COTD warehouse junk sale.

    • Did you buy it online first or did you just show up and buy it there?

      • +1

Wasn't available online in the morning so just walked in.

        • Dumb question, but does this come with the SATA data/power cables required to interface to your mobo or does that have to be bought seperately?

        • @montorola: The only thing in the box is the SSD itself

  • Kind of annoying that I can't do this online (yet).

Do MSY usually take this long to update their site?

    • -1

I found it online, did you login first?

      • Yeah I have tried logging in first, as well as not. Each time I go to the daily deals it's still the old ones. I did clear my cache and that hasn't helped either.
Could be my work PC and it's outdated browser. Have tried on my phone and get the same result.

I have also tried going straight to the SSD in the links and I still can't get the deal to work. Maybe it's just not meant to be!

        • I logged in, went to PC components > Hard Drive > SSD and I can see it there.. that's a bummer!

        • +1

@montorola: I can see the ssd there but nothing to do with the micro sd card as well. Are you seeing it in conjunction with the SD card too?

        • @koston54:

Nah I'm not seeing both, but I'm hoping when I'm there they'll give me the sd card with it

  • I just bought one and was given the microsd. THis was at the Clayton store.

  • My sister got one for me from the Geelong store Vic with the microSD card.
Now I just got to wait until she comes over next weekend lol

Might wait until the Windows 10 update is out and do a fresh install on the SSD with win8 then update to win10.

This in my first venture into the world of SSD's, any good guides to get the best out of them?

    • +1

If you can be bothered, get acronis and copy your existing install of windows too the ssd so you can compare boot times. You'll be kicking yourself you didn't get one years ago.

You'll need to get the used space of the install under 128gb though. IE, move all your videos and larger games to another drive.

Once you get past the speed the only thing you'll need to worry about is that relatively, these drives are tiny. So set your windows download and desktop folders to another drive, you only want your apps on the ssd.

      • Thanks :)
I will give acronis a try and see the difference with the current install, my OS is installed on an 80gb partition, with user data on a separate partition, so that will be no worries.

    • +1

Anything that requires loading things benefits from SSD, OS is one of the major one. Games do benefit from them as well, like Civ 5 ran faster on my SSD than on HDD.

  • nvm
