USB Car Charger 2 amps $3.57. 87% off. Click & Collect @ Dick Smith

630

It says for iPhone and iPad in the title but I believe it has a USB port so you could use any cable.

I've seen fake Belkins on eBay for this price delivered but I'd rather purchase from a reputable seller.

It was $3.65 yesterday and $27.98 four days ago. Who knows what price it'll be tomorrow…

Note: The Dick Smith website is useless: Click & Collect is only available via the desktop website, not the mobile website.

Edit: Out of stock for delivery. Still available for Click & Collect.

Edit 2: The price is still listed as $3.57 as of early Tuesday morning.

cheers OP! ordered one for pickup

  • Thanks OP. I was thinking about picking up one of these while picking up the phone holder and I'm sure glad I didn't :)

  • this might be a silly question but I'm guessing this would be safe to charge phones?

    • +3

Yes. as long as the output is 5V (which is what it says on the website), your phone would only draw as much as it needs (amperage wise).

So if your phone can charge using 2A, it will; else, whatever maximum possible

  • Good deal, just ordered one.

The charger only have 1x USB port?

    • +2

      Yes.

  • Can this charge by iPad 4th generation?

    • edit: my*

      • +1

Yeah it can. Look for 5V with 2A or 2.4A for best charging time.

  • dang - no local stock

  • ordered a few, lets hope my local DSE store hasnt had more items stolen and cant fulfil my order (*like last time).

  • OUT OF STOCK!!!

    • +1

Depends on your location, just bought 2 in SE Melbourne, with a few stores that have stock.

    • +1

      Temporarily out of stock (online).

Still available for Click & Collect if you can find a store with stock.

Big W sell these for $5 if you can't get one from DS. Can't find it on their website though.

    • A 2 amp version?

      • +4

Yes, 12-24V input, 5V 2.1A output. Plus it's "compact" compared to this so it doesn't stick out nearly as much.

        Edit: Picture

        • +3

it charges faster too being red and all

        • @neos: That was my thought process when buying it. They had sold out of black. Plenty of other colours though.

  • Reading the specs and this one caught my eye:
    USB Charging No

    • Bahahaha. Well I suppose you can't charge the charger.

    • You cannot return it if it does not do USB charge.

      • can you return it if it does then?

Still full of surprises, Dick Smith Electrics

I doubt this is any better than the random ones on ebay. I mean, dick smith has been selling non-MFi lightning cables for a while now, these are probably just as sketchy.

  • Looks like an unnecessarily bulky shape to get in the way of stuff, hangs out of the cigarette lighter 2 to 3 times larger than it needs to. The little discrete chargers that sit almost flush with the socket would be my preferred option.

  • Fast charging for zenfone?

  • If only they were 9V so Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 compatible :/

    • Just for future reference, what amp does it need to be for quick charging 2.0?

      • +2

        9 Volts / 2 Amps

Positive feedback for DS Penrith… they were out of stock so they rang me with options (in case I wanted a refund instead of a small delay), then chased one down at a nearby store, then rang me back…

Maybe I've been dealing with Telstra too long, but it's really nice to have someone promptly follow through and actually call back!
