  • Hi OP, how is the TomTom app for Android deal related to the Itunes/Apple app?

    • Sorry I cannot find any deal for Tomtom Apple app

  • -1

why only for 3 years ?

    • +3

I thought you would ask why only 75km/month :)

  • Had a quick read of T&C - seems this is via cashback?
Not sure what the initial costs are. App shows up to $56.99 on Google Play.

Is this app better then Google maps or? Ive been using Google maps for years and it works great!

    • yeh google maps is epic

probably the mobile that has the most development hours in the whole world

    • +3

Another good option is Nokia's Here maps & drive.
Now free on Android, IOS, winphone, including offline navigation.
I prefer it to google, especially for navigation. Cannot get rid of the American robot voice in google maps.

Not sure why you'd want to pay for Tomtom now.

You can use Ivona as a voice replacement.
Have Aussie voices, Poms many choices.

        • Am running 5.0 on moto-g. Can install any TtoS I want, but google maps persists with the american robot lady.
I know other versions would let you change the voice.

        • Got Ivona working, thanks, with UK voice. I think It needed a reboot (Windows style).

        • @manic:
Great! The list for English is:
          American, Australian, British, Indian, Welsh.
Oh no Bro, no New Zealand! Eh Bro?

      • Guys TomTom is for $60 for a reason, i am using it last 5 years and have not find any other navigation app better than this, and when i bought it from itunes it was on special and $79.

        1. First and far most best feature of TomTom Navigation app is it works totally offline, you can switch off all your data on the phone and it will use your Phone's GPS only.
        2. If you are some where, where no mobile network and internet TomTom will be your best mate to take you to the destination and bring back.
        3. Without Mobile Internet it give you pin point accuracy even inside CBD where usually old GPS units used to totaly lost TomTom iOS apps works like wonders.
        4. It updates instantly all the speed cameras, red light cameras and all the updates are free for life.

nokia Here is offline as well. and free.

      • HERE maps is the only offline navigation software you need. Still has a few quirks but it's free, quality maps that are regularly updated, it's free, nice features such walk option (that isn't retarded like Navigon), it's free and you can go online if you want to!

        • I have been using Tomtom for more than a decade and I can say I have used/tested almost every navigation software for Nokia ,Windows phone, Android and Iphone. At the moment I'm using Tomtom for Iphone and Google maps. I bought the Tomtom app a few years back when it was on special using Itunes cards that were on special(2for 1) so the price was not that bad. I think Tomtom ticks all the boxes when it comes to offline navigation but I'm happy to see there are other free apps that can work just as good. Since I haven't tried the Nokia Here app I have good a few genuine questions:
1 Does Here have advanced route planning?
          2. does it have lave assist?
          3. can you personalise the views/menus etc?
4 can you change the guidance voices?
5 does it automatically calculate faster alternative routes if traffic conditions change?

The only thing that I consider ridiculous with Tomtom is having to pay $40 for 1 year of traffic updates

        • @GregFiona: Sorry *lane assist

    • +1

      google maps uses data

      • -3

        Don't they all ;)

        • no.

      • actually, it has an offline mode. you can downlaod the detailed maps of a large city before travelling to it. works quite well.

        • The biggest size for an offline map is 50km x 50km

        • @BTB:
And of course no offline navigation or search with google. But Nokia Here does all that for free.

  • Paid navigation apps are dying breeds just like their dedicated gps counterparts a few year ago when smart phones with integrated gps came out. Tomtom should sell off their business ages ago.

    • +1

they still make money by selling the data they collect via your usage.

  • Does anyone know how to get the TomTom Go update through the existing TomTom Australia app?

When I try to redeem the special offer, Google play keeps giving me a 'purchase currency not supported error'even though I've got a Google play credit balance and the upgrade costs US$0.55c.

    • me too, anyone has an idea?

  • So they are charging to upgrade a product you already paid for

    • More like shafting rather than charging.

Basically support for the normal totmom app will expire and maps won't be updated after the 31 October 2015.
