I can't post this in the Deals section as price matching is not allowed, so I will post it here and hopefully some people who appreciates it will see it.
I was just in Dan Murphy's Phillip (ACT) picking up my JW Green and had a wonder around. Saw a centrepiece with a bunch of Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernets on it (boxes and boxes worth). Normally I would ignore this as KH is nothing amazing but the year caught my eye, 2010.
2010 was a phenomenal year for the Barossa and especially Penfolds, just check the Grange prices and note that 2010 is outperforming all the Granges from the previous 10 years. (PS, Grange is Shiraz Cabernet blend too…)
The best part about this bargain is that when you run a search on Boozle for the variety, the year does not matter for online pricing purposes. So you find that ourcellar.com.au has it for sale at $10.99. However you can guarantee that no one else is offering the 2010 version; everyone is already up to 2012 and 2013 (Dan Murphy's has 2014 on their regular shelving) and charging ~$13 on average. Here is a photo of me testing out my freshly price matched bottle to see if I like the taste; I'll be heading back tomorrow to grab a few cases.
Note: The guy at the register must have read my phone screen incorrectly but I wasn't about to correct him, it should have been $10.99. Don't try and use my receipt for 99c off!
For what it's worth, old mate James Halliday gave the 2010 bottle a 92 and said it should keep until 2025. Yes, it's been far cheaper on OzB in the past, but as you can see the 2010 is a sought after year.
All this effort just for one Dan's in Canberra? Well a bargain is a bargain but I am hoping that a bunch of 2010 cases were sent out across the country. Drop into your local DM and let us know if you also have the 2010s on the floor.
Back up to $18 and it's even being featured in the Cellar Release Workshop at the end of the month (That Wynns CSM looks interesting, I know the 2010 Cab Sav is great, not sure about the blend).
I realise not many people care, just updating this for searching purposes.
