Acer for $582 was a better deal IMO. $300+ more for 256mb more graphics is too much. However I think that deal is over… but keep in mind that this isn't a fantastic deal…

    • acr sux

plus this gfx card owns the 4500 .

      • lol… couldnt care less about the graphics card in a sub$600 laptop, the fact that its got one is a bonus… as for acer sucks - yes they do… but with 12 months warranty, who cares? keep it 12 months and sell it…

  • Officeworks also has the dv6-1246tx for $1099. Specs include Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P7550, 16", 4gb ram, 500gb hdd, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 with 512MB graphics.

  • Experts, can any of you please comment on this deal? Is this a decent deal? Or should I be looking at something else? I am looking for a good and powerful laptop around $900-$1100 for my geeky brother. I am really not a techie person. Please advise. Thanks!

  • It's decent, but not brilliant.

    • The screen is a low res 15.6" 1366x768 (same resolution seen on 11.6" netbooks).
    • The CPU is middle of the road.
    • The graphics card is middle of the road.
    • The HDD is middle of the road.
    • The amount of RAM is nice, but since it's a 32-bit OS it's not really going to use it properly anyway.
    • The physical build of the machine is decent, but nothing special.
    • It's a little on the heavy side. Battery life isn't great (2ish hrs when doing junk).
    • It has an annoying light on the back to light up the HP logo - interesting at first, annoying in the long run.
    • Supports gigabit wired and draft-n wireless = good, but fairly standard these days.

It's a decent all-rounder. Not great for gaming, but many games would be playable. Bad for high def video (low res screen). Not great for video editing, but not awful either.

The price is good, I guess. But the laptop is mediocre in general because it's not really good for anything specific, but it's sort of good at doing little bits of lots of things.

    • Thanks for the insight! Very useful. Do you have any recommendation for something that's better probably? My price range is about $900-$1100 (can be a little bit more I suppose if the extra price justifies it.)

      Thanks!

      • I recommend the dv6-1246tx from officework. Good specs with decent price. ($1099).

  • Average notebook with a really BAD graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS):
