    why is it a bargain?

  • Damn good price!

  • Nice price!

I got it for $530 quite some time ago.. they were on special from rio.com.au

Pretty good soundbar… but in hindsight, should have gone for a 2.0 system with amp

  • How much do Costco normally sell this for?

Haven't seen them at Costco before this. Best price I saw was on OzB from Rio's ~ $649 a while back

Really good soundbar, but it's quite tall and deep, so consider your TV console before purchasing. In our case, the soundbar would obstruct part of the TV bezel (not the actual screen). We ended up getting the Bose Cinemate GS series – less functionality but man they sound good.

    • The sub is quite tall too!

  • Great soundbar at a good price. Lowest i've seen in some time.

I want one but can't afford at the moment. Hoping to get one second hand for around 450 - 500 someday.

  • Only get this if you are in the market for a soundbar. If you can get a HTIB or a 2.0 system get that instead. Very subpar performance from this thing. Sounds ALOT better than TV speakers, but doesn't even compare to HTIB (not even taking into account surround sound).
For reference I am comparing it to a 3 yo Samsung HTIB which was the same price.

The biggest problem for me is if you use it in surround mode, you are loosing the space at the front as in essence it is a single middle speaker at the front and 2 rear speakers, you loose the stereo effect at the front which sucks.

  • saw this last week….still contemplating if i should get it…

  • I would recommend this if you listen to a lot of stereo music recordings or having rear speakers (and wires) is not a good option.

    • And if you need a soundbar over a 2.0 system, as this will sound inferior 9/10 times. HTIB often have wireless rear speakers.

I haven't heard this sound bar, but my experience with the Philips Fidelio range has been very good and it does get great reviews. And the one HTIB with wireless rear speakers that heard at a friends place, which was twice the price of this soundbar (albeit, a few years ago) sounded absolutely horrible with a movie DVD. The issue wasn't the rear speakers per se but the overall muddy-farty sound.

Moreover, people who chose sound bars over 2.0/2.1/5.1 systems often do so for cosmetic / aesthetic reasons. And this unit is one of the better ones you can get.

No worries. Just letting potential buyers know, like I said I owned a basic samsung 5.1 HTIB system and it outclassed the HTL9100 in every way except the ability to wall mount. If you are after sound then go elsewhere, if you are restricted for space, have a tiny room, and need to wall mount then yea soundbar. For me it's the biggest waste of $700 (what i paid), and will never go soundbar again. It's an awesome piece of kit, being able to take the speakers outside for example for entertainment, but in the end a HTIB would have been better for all my applications whether it's music, movies or tv shows.
