Issue with TV a Antenna

Hi,

Bought a house and moved a month back. We just unpacked our TV and when we plugged in the wires to antenna socket, we are not receiving any signal ( analog + digital).
Can anyone suggest where the problem could be and how to resolve it?

Thanks,

  • Just a suggestion you may need a power supply for your booster/amplifier usually if people have moved out or the house is new the previous owners have taken it with them or the house hasn't had one fitted yet. Usually it is placed in the lounge room/common area, it is fitted to the indoor socket and plug into the power and feeds power to the amplifier on your antenna (usually a little gray/blue box). I personally recommend Kingray Power Supply you should be able to get them from a DSE Store or an Electrical wholesaler.

  • Hello. Thank you. There is no such such box any where in house.

  • +1

    Try and get Parabolic Antenna.

    Including 1000+ channels worldwide.

  • You won't get any analogue reception - analogue TV is finished.

Is there actually an antenna on the roof? The previous tenant/owner may have taken it with them.

kallen's "little gray/blue box" is usually on the antenna mast, not in the house.

Is there more than one TV outlet in the house? Have you tried them all? Are you sure they are TV outlets, and not Foxtel outlets or something else?

It could be that your TV just needs retuning. Where have you moved from and to?

  • There is a TV antenna on the roof, which seems be directed in same direction as that of neighbors.

There are multiple points, 6 to be precise overall in the house. Everytime I was here for inspection after buying the previous owner had atleast 2-3 tv's running all the time.

    Moved from 3146 to 3806

    • If there are 6 points then then would almost definitely be an amplifier, as kallen points out. Whether is is a masthead amplifier (on the pole under the antenna) or a distribution amplifier (usually in the attic) is what you'll have to find out, so you can get the correct power supply to match.

Moving from 3146 to 3806 should not require a re-tune of your TV.

Unless you have a fantastic TV signal, six outlets will need an amplifier and a splitter, or an amplified splitter. If it's not on the antenna mast, it could be inside your roof space. You'll either need to get up in there and identify it, or get someone to do it for you.

This "box of tricks" will need power. Often, that's provided by a plug pack transformer connected to one of the TV outlets using a special adapter. The adapter and transformer will be specific to the amplifier/splitter - you need to have the matching power supply.

  • Glen Iris to Monash? Damn.

Get mr antenna out, he will sort it.

  • What was the outcome on this, deepudips?

    • i went up the in ceiling to see there are about 9-10 cables connected and there is already an amplifier with splitter which does not seem to work.

tried bypassing all the cables and provide input to one point only. Few of the channels are tuned now, but still those ABC, ABC2 etc channels are missing.

Been busy with work to check back again :( will check again on this weekend.

  • Unless the amplifier/splitter has its own power cord in the roof (not all that likely), it will need a power supply and adaptor at one of the outlets. Did you note the manufacturer/brand and model number of the amplifier/splitter?

    • DVB-T Amplifier MH-AMP01 from Alvin Electronics.

There was no power options on this box

  • The web page for that product says that it requires CV14DCF (F Connector) or CV14VDC/150 (PAL Connector) Power Supply.

    The company contact details are:

    • Cool, Thank you. Let me check if any of this is in the ceiling.

  • It won't be in the ceiling. The power supply and adaptor connects to one of the wall outlets, and sends power back up the cable to the amplifier.
