The route map for the free flights is misleading. There are no Perth -> Sydney flights. Bait and switch.

    • Edit - you're right. My bad.

    • Did you call and ask them about this? What did they say?

      • +1

I'm interested to know too! When I signed up, there were flights from Perth to Adelaide and Perth to Sydney on the map.

  • Does anyone know what is the going rate to sell Velocity points?

    • -2

      $35 for 10 000 points.

  • is anybody here pay rent with credit card???

    • no body here is can pay rent with credit card

  • Just received the card today does anyone know how to find out my velocity membership number at all? on the back of the card the only numbers i see is a repeat of whats on the front. On signup i did request for them to create one for me since i did not already have an account. In "my account" it does show to the right Velocity Points and 0 and even a link to earn points which sends you to velocity page, but no sign of membership number.. I just don't want to sign up twice thats all.
    ……
EDIT: ended up calling AMEX and they said i needed to signup with velocity then call back with membership number which i have now done, so looks like all good to go and peoples don't be scared to click referral link in the WIKI :)

    time to spend that $1,000

  • Nice one, got mine within the week. Added myself to the referral wiki too, stoked!

Pretty sure the $349 is tax deductible too (bank account fees)?

  • The terms say "Two Single Entry passes to the Virgin Australia lounge will be activated on the Basic Cardmember's Velocity membership card annually on or after the anniversary of membership."

Does this mean you only get these passes in year 2?

    • No. They're on your card straight away. Someone else already asked this on the previous page, by the way.

      • Do i have to show the AMEX or Velocity card to get into the lounge?

      • Do you know if these can be transferred to someone else?

  • Just to clarify, if I link my amex to PayPal that any payments through PayPal would gain velocity points?

Signed up with a link from the Wiki page (cant remember who the lucky person is), got a couple of calls at work wanting a bit of verbal verification of my identity, and the cards arrived 2 days later. Easy.

Dont forget to use a link for the 10k extra points (I almost forgot) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/american_express_referrals…

    • I think it may have been mine (someone used it). In which case, thank you very much! Will make a difference for my upcoming honeymoon!

Just wanted to say RE the 80k bonus points in the previous offer.
I was already an existing AMEX card holder (Platinum Edge) when I applied for the Velocity Platinum.
Just received my 80k bonus points 1 weeks after reaching the $500 spend requirement.

some extra points available for those that don't mind the odd survey.

    https://www.e-rewards.com/Enroll.do;jsessionid=06C3BAB25A85F…

Once you sign up and complete the first survey you get 750 Velocity Points which isn't too bad. The first survey I got took about 5 minutes to do. Keep in mind that you must qualify for the survey, so say you answer 2 questions and it says "sorry you don't qualify" then this does not count towards completing a survey.

After this, for each survey you earn e-reward points, which then turn into Velocity Points.
    1200 e-rewards points = 250 Velocity
    2000 e-rewards points = 500 Velocity
    3500 e-rewards points = 1000 Velocity
    6000 e-rewards points = 2000 Velocity

As a guide the first survey I completed was worth 525 Points, so shouldn't take too much effort to build them up.
Note: You are only allowed 1 transfer from e-rewards to Velocity per month so may be worth building up as many as you can before transferring, with 1200=250, obviously better value if you can get up to 2000=500

  • I added my wife as an additional card holder. Did I just screw up by not having her apply on her own? She can qualify as well. Should I cancel her and let her apply or they'll pick up on that?

    • I did the same thing. My mrs has 2 cards - 1 linked to mine and 1 on her own. Both got the 100k points (actually more as I referred my wife so we got a bonus)

  • Confirming that I received the 110k points despite holding a platinum edge card as well.

    • Did you receive them pretty much right away after spending the $1000?

      • Within 24-48 hours

    • Wazza, in the application process did you select that you already had an existing card?

Also, question for all. If I get the card, spend money and then they reject me for bonus points, would they let me cancel and refund the annual fee? The worst thing would be to be slugged with the fee and get no points…Any thoughts?

      • I wrote no for existing cards but they still sent a letter saying 'due to your other cards we are reducing your credit limit'. So they know, but don't care.

You could probably get a annual fee refund if they don't give it to you.

    • Thanks buddy. I am trying the same, and have used your referral.

I wonder if you linked the new card to the same login (username & password) as your other existing card?

      • Nope! And I wouldn't do that before you receive the bonus. Just in case!!

        • How did you check the points? Directly on Velocity website?

        • You will see it directly on the amex page once you've got a login

        • I can see the bonus points now (although they are still yet to be transferred to my velocity account). Thanks! Have you received the 20k points?

  • Just applied for this. Does anyone know where to find the referral link for others to sign up?

Also how long does it normally take for the points to be added does anyone know?

  • I had a David Jones Amex card a few months ago and cancelled after getting a couple of hundred dollars as a bonus. I called up Amex and they confirmed this means I am not eligible for the 100k points. I can see a few people with Platinum Edge getting the points though, has anyone with a DJ card tried yet?

    • Amex staff will tell you what's in the terms and conditions. I was told the same thing when I applied for Edge and already had an amex card but still got bonus points. Actually when I asked, the agent said 'let me read the terms' lol This doesn't mean you will definitely get the bonus as they can enforce the terms anytime but the chance is very high.

  • I referred my wife using my referral link; she got the 110k, and I got nothing. I then generated her a referral link, for a friend, and she got her 20k about a week later.

I wonder who I can hassle for my referral bonus?

    • Sometimes you get 20000 referral straight away. But it can take up to 60 days. I referred few of my friends recently and got the points immediately. I KNEW some people were approved but no referral points. Was about to call to find out, but all of a sudden all those referral points have appeared on my statement after 4 weeks at once.

  • Finally got around to getting the better half to join under my referral. My application was instantly approved, hers says 5-10 business days. She has same wage as me and only 2 hits on her credit file in the last 3 years - anyone else get this? Maybe they're just overloaded from all the sign ups?

  • Shopped at Woolworths last week and received 10,000 bonus points on this card - unexpected and nice surprise upon logging in!

    • +1

interesting 10,000 is a pretty good bonus for one shop, i used the card at mcdonalds of all places and for some reason got 3 points for every $1, not sure what the go is there. Can't seem to find any info on a deal like that

      • I only spent $8 too! Maybe it's a "first shop at Woolies" bonus?

        • I got 10,000 bonus points too - however, I signed up initially at first without using the referral link (so only 100k bonus points).

I asked them via the contact thingy and they said it was simply a welcome bonus.

        • I got a bonus 'free' 10,000pts randomly when I signed up for the Virgin Money Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer card a couple of years ago. Must be a thing. Anyway, did a small shop at Woolies today for the first time with this AMEX card and we'll see what happens! :D

        • @Chthonic: ahh. Same here. Maybe it was just coincidence that it was listed with my Woolies shop

Hi Schumi5, I've been using my card for 2 weeks now and after reading my points statement, I noticed that any food places (cafe's, restaurants) it's 3pts to the dollar! So that includes Maccas. Even the internal cafe here in the office it was 3 points to the dollar.

The only exception was a PUB here at North Sydney which was 1 point to the dollar.

It's a good idea to read the points statement and see where you can maximize the points.

        • Spot on, thats the only conclusion i can come to as well.. may sound like a junkfoodaholic lol but got nandos last night and again 3point per $1 spent. Shame there is no information anywhere which says where the 3for1 is unless you run your eyes over the points statement.

        • @Schumi5: I read the PDS and was looking for that information too about the point breakdown by stores but found nothing. I think the best thing to do is to use the card at as many places as possible (where amex is accepted) and then check your statement.

FYI Paypal was 1 point to the dollar.

  • I know I'm a bit late to the party on this one but signed up yesterday and got instantly approved. Fairly good deal and looking forward to getting the card.

    Thanks for the post :)

  • Do we get a Velocity membership card sent?

  • Signed up for the card last Thursday and got it in the mail yesterday so very fast turnaround. Thanks to OP for passing on this deal =)

  • Applied on the weekend and am waiting for the 5-10 working days "processing" period (I guess to analyse my application).

Does anyone know, or can anyone confirm (who already has received their cards) whether the supplementary card number differs to the primary card number?

  • Hey guys - How do you generate a referral code? Just got mine today in the mail and can only see the refer a friend option which asks you to connect to fb or linkedin?

    • Make sure you are logged into your Amex account.

      Go here - https://www316.americanexpress.com/iFormsSecure/un/iforms.do…

      Select your card.

      Voila.

      • Hey dazzywazzy

Yep did that and after I enter in all my details that the only option I have is to share via fb or linkedin. I would have thought that it generated a URL that I could just copy or paste - unless I'm doing something wrong?

I've pm'd to myself on fb so have the link so to speak :)

        • That is strange, from memory, once you enter your first name/last name then your card number and email address, it should email you a link which you can add to the WIKI and share with your friends!

        • No luck - Just tried it again. I only activated the card about 4 hours ago so I might wait for a day or so :/

        • @Ndiddy:

Niddy, since you have pmd yourself the link on facebook, all you have to do is click on it. It will then open up in your web browser and you just highlight the link in the browser window and that is your referral link. Hope this helps

  • Just in case anyone else has issues with receiving the full 110,000 pts after using a referral link. I initially only received 80,000 pts. I contacted Amex via online message and the extra 30,000 pts were credited to my account the next day. The staff said there had been a system glitch.

  • Super late to the party, as I didn't see this post and got a application form in the mail, applied online (no referral sorry guys :-( ) and was approved straight away which surprised me as I was rejected by Virgin a month ago (too many enquiries).

I was surprised I didn't have to upload payslips, drivers licence proof of ID etc ? how does that work? I've been out of the finance industry for 7 years but I thought it would be harder to obtain credit not easier ?

  • +1

The word is that they have been giving it to anyone, not checking income or anything.

  • So if I have a Qantas American Express card am I eligible for this offer?

    • I have a David Jones Amex Card and applied and my 110K points came through just fine :)

Give it a shot! Don't forget to use a referral on the wiki page.

  • Another word is that if you have an AMEX card already, that is fine, they may give you a slightly lower credit limit. If it is a bank issued card, it makes no difference at all.

  • Did anyone receive an email after applying?

    • +1

I didn't get anything other than the "your application is approved screen" and a reference number if my card doesn't arrive in 7 days.
I read on the AFF forum that a lot of people received notification via sms as well?

      • +1

Thanks - I received nothing at all. I called them and they received my application however.

        • +1

just checked my email and I got an approval letter last night telling me the same things as the approval screen. Now just waiting to get my card so my wife can apply using my Reference link.

  • I have searched and searched Amex/Google but cannot find the answer to this questions. Does anyone know where the list of restaurants is that you can get 3 points per $1 spent?

    Thanks

    • No particular list I think, every restaurant/Cafe that I've used it in so far has given me 3 points so far.

      • Cheers mate.

      • Yep. As long as it isn't a restaurant/cafe inside a department store etc. as that would be classified under a different merchant code.

  • +1

    Hi All,

I doubt this is the case, but is anyone here interested in selling Velocity points?

  • It's not allowed under Virgin's terms and conditions so just be careful :)

  • I just finished applying, then saw the destination city options for Perth :/
Oh well, looks like I'll be taking a holiday to Broome in the next 12 months.

    • Alternatively you can sell that flight to a family member or friend and put that money towards another holiday destination

      • I did read that in the T&Cs, but I don't think I know anyone that would want it. It's all good; I'm more than happy to try somewhere new, and Broome is meant to be amazing. A friend is likely to apply for the card too, so we can go up together.

        • Some people have managed to redeem a Perth to Sydney/Adelaide return flight if that helps.

          Check this out: http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/referral…

        • @vvti85:
Thanks. I've been to both, but I wouldn't mind going back to Sydney. Chances are I'll try something new with Broome though. Time will tell.

        • My friend's application was declined, so it looks like I'm going away alone.

He earns almost $20k over the requirement, but has a car loan, another credit card (with a low limit, and that is paid off), and I guess not enough personal assets.

  • Hi everyone,

I am thinking of applying a credit limit of $4000. Do you think it will be approved ?
    Or maybe better if i apply for a $3000 / $3500 limit instead ?

And does anyone know how many Velocity points you will earn by shopping in supermarkets and normal retail outlets such as Myer, Bunnings etc?

    Thanks for all feedback !

    • +1

      Hey mate,

You will be approved without issue. I applied for $3000 the minimum and also transferred a small balance of $1200 of another card. I was approved instantly and didn't have to send any documentation. My credit limit ended up being $3400 because of the balance transfer.

You only get 1 points per $ spend in Myer/Bunnings etc unfortunately. You will get 3 x points and most cafes/pubs/restaurants which accept Amex. I've found this to be quite normal on this card now.

Don't forget to use a referral out of the wiki to ensure you get the full 110,000 points :)

      Hope that helps :)

      • +1

Thank you for your help reply :)

  • Approved. Not sure whose referral link I used but it was the one at the bottom at the time (today). You're welcome!

  • Hmm how do you generate a referral link? That's what I'm trying to figure out right now..

    • +1

Use this link: Refer a friend

      • When I use that link it asks for my details then the only option it gives me is to share by Facebook or LinkedIn. I'd rather just email my Mrs the link rather than putting it up for the world to see! How are people getting the links to post in the Wiki? Thanks

        • Hey mate,

This happens a lot. Click the facebook option but just share it with yourself in a private message. Then go in to your Facebook messages and the link will be there to copy/paste in an email to your mrs. That's how I did it.

        • @dazzywazzy: Worked a charm, thanks!

  • Applied (used the referral link from wiki) and got the approval email next day, its been more than 1 week now and still waiting for the card. Called them today and they said they had lot of applications due to the promotion so I should wait for 10 business days. How long did it take for you guys after the approval? Am i the only one or are there other people still waiting?

    • Probably about that time, 10 business days, at least.

    • Got mine within 3 days of approval in metro Adelaide. I would believe them that they have had a lot of applications though. Just this advert has had 3500 clicks from OzBargain let alone their other applications.

      • +1

thanks guys for your reply, i guess i would have to be patient :) it was a good deal, no doubt they got lot of applications.
