Moved from exetel due to their recent price increase. I just called them to make sure that the account is cancelled. I was told that the account will be cancelled on 25july as the churn happened on 25june. So they are going to charge me for one month of adsl even though I am not even connected with them anymore. Is this legitimate?

Yeah, most companies have a 30 day cancellation announcement requirement. Meaning you have to submit it 30 days beforehand and they will cancel it after those final 30 days.
I had the same issue when leaving Exetel. It's just another way to extract money from you.
Check the forum post on this. A user stated that Exetel will waive the 30 day fee as they are the ones implementing a price change. Might be worthwhile to investigate further.
Correct! I made sure that I got this in writing from them via email, just in case they decide to be even bigger dicks & I have to lodge a retrospective TIO complaint.
FWIW, it didn't stop them being total asshats & placing a fake Optus "order" on my phone service to delay the port away from them though…
As twodollah said, ask them to waive / refund the fee as they were the ones changing the price.
If they refuse, give them three days to agree or you'll take it with the TIO.
Exetel love the TIO and the fee they charge every time someone raises an issue.
You might not get your money back, but you'll cause them same pain too.
Thanks a lot guys. I called their Sydney number first time around and got rude guys. Called 1300 number second time around and mentioned them about them changing the fees for the reason of moving away- they agreed to refund from today. I asked them to refund from 26th which is when they stopped the service and to my surprise they agreed to refund from 26th(after five min of hold). It seems that they have different teams answering phones - Sydney guys are idiots and the 1300 number guys knows how to do customer service. Saved at least $50- what's on sale today;)
Maybe they charge 1 month in advance like TPG? In which case they will have to credit this amount back to you.
