Where to Load Myki Card with 5% Paywave?

I usually top up online and last time I checked, the standard Myki top-up machines didn't have paywave.

Another question: basically the best way to take advantange of the "Early Bird" fee-free discount, is to for example, get up early in the morning, touch-on and then touch-off, at for example, the CBD, before 7AM. Since travel within CBD is free, I'll do my business (work or uni) until whatever time. So basically my only charge will be the return trip?

Also, anyone else think it's BS that newly bought Myki cards don't come with credit? At least banks give you new cards for free if you lose it.

  • I've used paywave at a 7-11 in the city once to load value onto a Myki. Worked fine.

Have you considered getting a Commuter Club Myki? Cheaper than a 5% discount and often offered with interest free installments to pay it off through your employer.

Some points which might clarify things a little:

    • If you lose a myki card, you can apply for a replacement card which is free. No fees, no catches. Yes, you do have to pay a non refundable card fee upon initial purchase, but subsequent replacements due to loss or expiry are free.

    • Note: To replace a lost or stolen myki, it must be registered online. Visit the PTV website for more information and to register. Also, the only way of replacing a lost or stolen registered myki is via mail. This could take up to ten working days, and in that period of time you'd possibly have to buy another myki.

    • All myki cards have a validity of four years from date of issue. To replace a myki that is about to expire within the coming sixty days, visit any staffed railway station for a free on the spot replacement.

    • This, however, is the same story with banks also. If you lose a bank card today, it'll take a while for a replacement to reach you.

    • Although the Early Bird travel is commonly published as ending at 7am, in reality it's actually 7.15am when Early Bird entitlements end.

    • For paywave functionality, drop into any 7-11. All stores have paywave functionality.

    • Travel within CBD is only free on trams. Trains and buses still require a paid myki.

    • I haven't been to any 7-11s since forever but thanks for the useful tips.

On an unrelated note, I miss the 2 hours + 59 minutes pre-Myki tickets. On the other hand, as a person who does Zone 1 + 2, the changes early this year helped reduce commute costs to a more reasonable level.
