  • Is this a discount or just OW's standard price?
Because JBhifi also has it for $239.20 - https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/all-computers--t…

  • They probably did the usual, and dropped it to stop the price match less 5%.

  • I bought the Seagate 1TB version of this… $100 Big-W bargain (previous OB deal) … Then I thought, why the hell did I buy this? I don't need it at all … Few months later I still hadn't opened it so I put it on eBay and got $187 :D

Before someone says "Cool story bro" (lol) I was planning to use it in the car for our long 8hr interstate trips but found out a USB stick here and there more than covered our needs.

Genuine question, what are people using these things for? Or like myself have some of you wondered why the hell you got one after buying it?

      Cool story bro. ;)

Seems expensive. Why not just connect a standard USB HDD to your router, or plug it straight into the computer?

    • More useful for travelling abroad, when you don't have access to your router or computer.

You mean for phones and tablets? That kind of makes sense, but still expensive.

        • Can you link to a cheaper version?

@Orpheus: No, I am not saying there is a cheaper version, I am saying it is quite expensive compared to a standard USB HDD. It is double the price of USB drive. Woudl be cheaper to carry an OTG cable or put files on cloud storage.

I bought (and later sold) mine. Intended purpose was mass movie/episode storage in the car driving 8hr trips back and forth… Good idea in theory but absolute overkill in reality. Realised the same could be accomplished by using usb sticks / Micro SD's I already own for free. After that I couldn't think of a valid reason to keep it.

For the home, your earlier point is perfectly valid - much better ways to access wirelessly.

        • @zealmax: well its not a standard hard drive, so why would you expect it to be the same price?

        • @zealmax: To transfer files over with Cloud while oversea is going to kill my mobile phone data bill O.o
This also has a SD card reader, convenient to transfer photo or video recorded by your camera into this portable hard drive while you are away.
I do agree the value gigabyte per dollar is expensive compared to normal dumb portable hard drive.

        • @Click_It: This is exactly what I meant. It is over kill. There are cheaper alternatives.

        • @edfoo: I can see there is a niche market for it. Most hotels offer internet access. This would of been handy few years back, when broadband access was limited. I remember uploading my photos for weeks, while I was overseas. I like to be safe than sorry, and try to keep at least 2 copies of my photos.

        • @zealmax: Most of the oversea hotels I have been charge a fee for internet access, so sending files to Cloud is no go :(

  • has anyone tried connecting one of these to an Ipad to increase capacity for lets say storing movies and playing them back ? if yes then does it work ? have any issues ect .. thanks

  • Price has now gone up to $359, so I'll mark this deal as expired!

  • I did managed to purchase one last night… :)
I got an email this noon to come and pickup from my preferable store. I will do that on my way home from work tomorrow. The only thing remaining now is to find out soon how to make it work with my kids mini iPads and what kind of movie format/resolution the iPads can view…
