don't do it it doesn't support VT-D! well dont do it if you want to use pass though on esxi :S/… which apparently i do.

      • ?

        that's just what I said no VT-DF?

sure you can upgrade to a xeon… but that adds another 400+ bux… might as well just buy the microserver with the gen 8 built in - or just make your own box…the microservers are good cause they are an all in one solution that's nice and small… bit of a pain as I've had to spend quite a bit on mine… extra RAM, separate RAID card…and now the CPU…

looking for one of the xeon processors now, but cant find anything reasonably priced.

  • Is this one better than n54L? My n36L just died, possibly the power supply. Need to get another one as a torrent box.

You can fit more HDD's in to the older models using adaptors, but this 8th Gen device is definitely faster as-is, and upgradable to a Xeon CPU.

Not to mention other LGA-1155 cpus. Theres a list somewhere of cpus that have been shown to be compatible.

I was considering upgrading from my N54L. But because of the largely ECC RAM requirement (I know there are a few non ECC that can be used), I decided to stay put. Didn't want to spend more money on RAM. And CPU, as the 35W of this Celeron model is a larger draw than the N54L's 25W.

If you're happy with the N36L, why not just buy a new PSU? Or a picoPSU even. I just got one, about to try it out.
