Found this while checking out the kogan deals.

Very swaqq, much retro, such cheap, wow.

EDIT: THE WATCH IS OUT OF SYNC, DON'T BUY THIS UNLESS YOU BELIEVE THAT TIME IS A SOCIAL CONSTRUCT AND AN ILLUSION. or use it as a somewhat semi-accurate stopwatch?

Looks like Kogan's become Catch of the Day

  • +2

That's the normal price. Bought one 4 months ago. Seriously speaking save your money as time is out of sync

    • How out of sync is it?

      • +1

        About 10~20 seconds a day.

        • +4

Thank you so much. Not going to buy it then

        • How is it out of sync, like what time is it at 12:00 midnight? I mean after 24 hours

        • +1

          @pal:
I set mine to parity now with my genuine Casio which are rated for up to 30 second error a month. I'll report back after a few hours.

          Casio: 14:42.00
          Fake: 14:42.00

        • How out of sync is it?

          About 10~20 seconds a day.

Then in about 25 years it will be right again :)

It's like that old joke: even a broken clock is right twice a day. Unfortunately it only works if it is an analogue clock.

          Or…

How many seconds are there in a year? 12 — January 2nd, February 2nd… 24 if you include January 22nd, February 22nd…

        • @silent1:
          Casio: 17:45.00
          Fake: 17:45.04
Seems like it's closer to 30 seconds per day.

How is it still so hard to make a watch that can keep basic time?
          Is this 2015 or 1985???
(No, seriously, is this 2015 or 1985? It's so confusing these days!)

      • since i bought it, its been sitting on my desk. I only adjusted the time when i 1st got it. Now its @ 1:42 pm Sydney time

        • can confirm, mine says 2:52 aest…

      • my ROLEX is never out of sync ^_^

        • Will be tomorrow ;)

          @battler:

Time to claim warranty on it them and get a new one utilizing Rolex's Zero second warranty

        • @easternculture:

Nek minnit Rolex secretly is able to connect to 4G and therefore update time .

  • Such cool, very hip, must buy

  • +1

You could sit at the cool table if you had one of these in high school.

    • +3

      … in 1982!

      • +1

        Yep 1982 = grade 12

    • +1

Reminds me of how i was the koolest in primary because I had a 64 pack of crayola coloured pencils.

    • +2

If you had a Casio GM10 back in the good old days you could sit at the Teachers desk.

    • you definitely weren't in the coolest table then..

you need one of these to be at the top - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calculator_watch

    awww it's not a genuine Casio :(

Had one back when I was a kid, one of my first digital watches! Would have got this if it was made by Casio..

I got a similar model W-800H for about $20 a few years ago and I absolutely love it!

      • +1

Yep, buy the genuine one. I've had a few of these over the years, and they all last friggen ages. They also are accurate to within a 60 or so seconds over a month. I always replace the band with a velcro strap from rip curl, and they also last ages :)

  • This seems to be an original 80's watch looking at the scratches and all. So really more like an antique than retro.

  • How does this compare to Apple Watch?

    • +2

      Longer battery life.

    • +6

Its a much better quality watch made by a much better company. Also unlike the apple watch, this is a 'timeless' work of art.

      • -1

The one from Kogan? Don't think so.

      • 'timeless' work of art < LOL

    • They are approximately the same size and colour.

    • +2

How does this compare to Apple Watch?

      Roughly $495

      • +3

I'd rather have this fake casio and $495 in my pocket

        • +1

Don't repeat this statement to an apple fan boy . What happens on ozbargain stays on ozbargain

        • +1

Imagine how many out of sync fake Casios you could buy!

  • the favourite watch of hipsters and Osama bin Laden alike.

  • Could someone confirm if this is fast? Or slow?

  • +1

Not as good as the watch I have in 1985…

  • fast or slow ……. the screw get rusty, so stay away

  • I can certainly recommend the original Casio version I Bought for US$27 from Toys R Us, while travelling in the USA in 1982. It's still going strong. I just get the button and back O rings replaced every 8 years or so.

    • Does it not cost more to do this then replacing the watch>?

      • +1

Probably, but I have a Jeweler mate who only ever charges a few dollars. So no labour cost. Only takes a few minutes so probably pretty cheap normally if you shop around. I guess there is some sentimental value for having had it since I was in high school. It will probably still outlast anything I could buy cheap.

I only ever used it working in certain environments to save my dress watch which wasn't suitable. Used it refuelling aircraft and cabling for years - The jet fuel spilled on it didn't seem to affect the seals - but I wouldn't try immersing it. Plus other dusty dirty wet jobs. The last few years, like a large percentage, I haven't worn a watch. I now have a pebble, which is great, except for my eye's deteriorating has made reading it at night an issue.
