  • One way?

    • If you click the links, you'll see they are return fares.

      • My bad. The mobile site blocks many of the search results. I had to go to desktop site.

awesome prices, if only the US dollar was back at a good level

To avoid any confusion, Sydney to New York may be direct, but it is not non-stop. Same flight number but there is a stop in LA.

I was thinking to myself "Goddamn, that's a long flight"

      Hi Adamonline,

Sorry - you are completely correct. I stuffed up when reading the flights. I've updated the post & removed any mention of 'direct'.

      • As adamonline said - they are direct flights as SYD-JFK is operated under a single flight number, but they aren't non-stop flights

          Hi ajdlinux,

I take your point. I've removed it from the post though as it obviously caused a fair bit of confusion (and not just with myself).

          Cheers.

        • @IWantThatFlight: Yeah, it's a common misconception - really the airline industry should've come up with a better term for "direct" flights to avoid all the confusion!

  • I understand it's not direct, but still via LA. (Even though it may show as direct, when you search the flight numbers, it has the stop over in LA).

In airline terminology, a direct flight is a flight under the same flight number, which may or may not be a non-stop flight - Qantas' New York services are generally direct flights, but obviously for technical reasons they require a stop in LAX

      • makes sense :)

        • Or not really, so many people get confused by this that I kind of wish the airlines just came up with a new term for it :P

        • +1

@ajdlinux: yes true. maybe call it a transit flight? that might make more sense. It reminds me of how many travellers get confused with codesharing and they're looking for their flight and look for the booking carrier rather than provider carrie (if you know what i mean)

  • This flight is NOT NON-STOP. It is VIA LAX

Qantas no longer has direct flights to JFK from SYD. QF 107 was discontinued in the recent timetable change. The only direct flight, which stops in LAX, is from
BNE. All QF passengers from SYD to JFK will have to change planes in LAX.

    • Do BNE passengers have to exit the plane for refuelling, and pass through customs? Surely they do, or half the passengers haven't passed customs when entering JFK. No?

    • Actually it seems that QF11 is now the direct SYD-JFK flight. Leaves SYD at 09.50 and arrives in JFK at 17.15 with a 2h25 layover in LAX. Same flight number all the way through.

Sorry everyone for posting that Sydney to JFK was direct. I've updated the post.

    • Direct would be a killer.. 19+hour flight .. Stop in LA would be better anyways

      • +1

        Direct does not mean non-stop.

    • Direct != non-stop, it can be a direct flight with a stopover

  • Hi Rep. I've been looking for return flights BNE-JFK (or LGA) leave Dec in the week before Christmas and return mid Jan. I've found your Korean Air flights for $1633, which seems good for that time of year. Is that the best deal at the time or is there anything better you can find? Thanks very much.

    • Also looking for flights over December to Houston!

    • I tried a few dates, but I couldn't beat $1633 so I'd go with that.

      • Thanks for checking

  • Any deals on going to mainland europe? want to leave around 8september and return around 12october.

    any deals to toronto/vancouver thanks!

  • Yes. $1296 return.

Since QAN is stopping over at LAX, does the passenger have to clear immigration/customs at LAX or is this done at JFK?

I noticed that Virgin to JFK is comprised of Virgin to LAX then Delta from LAX to JFK. I assume that Delta leg is considered domestic, so the passenger will have to clear immigration/customs at LAX? Is this right?

    • Surely they do, else there would be a mix of domestic+international passengers arriving in JFK…?

    • Your answer is here:
      http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/airport-guide-new-y…

      "

Passengers travelling to New York on QF11 will have already cleared immigration and customs formalities at Los Angeles International Airport on arrival in the United States. There are no further formalities to be completed on arrival in New York.

Passengers departing the United States on QF18 will have immigration cards removed at check-in. If you are transferring from another flight to QF18, this form will be collected from you at the departure gate.

There are no further formalities to be completed on departure at either New York or Los Angeles, and your baggage will be checked through to your onward destination."
