Are You a Disgruntled Exetel Customer?

So I'm a former Exetel customer and after the mayhem that's gone on for the last few weeks (see here) - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/197531
I thought it might be interesting to see who of us have actually changed over. For me, i took up the iPrimus offer (69.90/mth 300gb, line rental and included local, national and mobile calls). I'm also region 2/3 so limited options for me with only telstra line out here. With the added bonuses i received it came out a great deal for me.

Basically vote for your current move/choice and let everyone know your new ISP or why you've remained with Exetel. Over on whirlpool heaps of people are signing up with netcube.

  • Just switched to iinet, but I'm not sure if the TPG takeover will impact the services…

  • I was with Exetel. Had no major issues with them, but switched to a cheaper Spintel plan a while back.
    Pretty similar service and support.

    • What plan did you sign up with? How are the speeds compared to Exetel?

      • My speed is the same. I tested before and after. I'm guessing same line and infrastructure on Optus so same speed.

      • I was with one of the old Exetel bundles. $60 for phone, 50gb peak, unlimited offpeak, and a mobile plan.
Then one day, they decided to unbundle the mobile, and up the cost.
That's when I said no thanks, and jumped to Spintel. Currently paying $50 for 200gb.

        Speeds are exactly the same.

  • I'm going to wait and see for now. I "downgraged" to their more expensive plan in the interim. Hopefully I can find a good deal to replace the $40/month with line rental that I was paying.

    • You're brave.

      • My waiting has paid off. They put their price back down to the $39.99 per month now! Albeit with data allocated into peak and off-peak periods.

However they didn't announce it. I only noticed because I checked their website.

They also have a $49.99 per month plan with 300GB & line rental.

        • Good job! Unfortunately, there rude and utter incompetence has turned me away from Exetel forever. Loving my new supplier (heaps better speeds and no down time during peak). So to be honest, I don't really care about exetel anymore…

        • I just looked and there new prices are still worse than what I am now on..

        • @Tuhan:

          What are you on now?

        • @inherentchoice: I pay $69 (I received a sign up bonus of $70 and referral bonuses which brings my 24month contract price down to approximately $60/month). I'm regional and get 300gb ADSL2+ (no peak/off peak) which also includes line rental with unlimited local, national and mobile calls. I've been with them now for 3 months and speeds have far exceeded Exetel, especially during 'Peak' times. The extel equivalent is $79 and that doesn't include the unlimited local, national and mobile calls and their plan is peak/off peak limited…

I will never go back to Exetel after being with them for 9 years…

  • Looks like there isn't as many people with Exetel like i thought.

    • I'm going to Netcube. I didn't get the disconnection letter from Exetel (yet) but it will probably come in the future since the plan I'm on increased by $15p/m and is now divided into peak/off speak quota rather than anytime.

$49.95p/m for unlimited ADSL2 on an Telstra DSLAM (off net exchange, only Telstra resellers allowed) is great value.

No complaints with Exetel personally. Always quick to answer the phone and helpful. The interesting thing is sometimes using a VPN, I got faster speeds than without.

      • Yes I saw on Whirlpool that most unhappy customers are moving over to Netcube. My only thinking why most of them are doing that is because it is Unlimited? Otherwise for $10 less/mth you can get 300gb PLUS unlimited local, national and Mobile calls with the deal I got through iPrimus. Thanks to this post - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/199404

Especially seeing as it is offered for those in Region 2/3 at the same price.

        • I thought the iPrimus deal is only for Metro areas?
I've been trying to check my address but it wasn't working on my computer on the weekend and still wasn't working as of 5 minutes ago. It's not my connection either as I've tried my work computer this morning.

        • @Alister:

Nope, it is available to those in regional areas or zone 2/3. You just need to call up and they will give you the deal. I was referred so i just said i wanted the same deal and they were totally fine.

I've since referred a few others and with referral bonuses and the sign up bonus ($70) I'll be saving $220. Which brings my average monthly price to under $65/mth.

I originally was trying to sign up to netcube but they wouldn't budge on their $70 plan. I'm glad i held off otherwise i wouldn't have got this deal from iPrimus.

        • For having calls included, it's a great deal then for zone 2/3. I would have gone for it but 300gb isn't enough now that we burn through netflix and I'm sus about the 300gb claim when it states 150gb peak/150gb off peak. Sure they may not do it now but I bet they would change it soon.

        • @Alister:

Yeah if you are watching Netflix and heavy downloader then 300gb may be a little under what you'll be needing… Yes it says 150gb peak and 150gb off peak but I have confirmation and in my contract (emailed to me) stating it is a straight 300gb. No peak or off peak. I am hoping, (although unlikely after the Exetel fiasco) that they will stick to their contract made with me for at least the contract duration, 24mths.
