Hi all,

I'm currently reviewing the PiPO X8. This is the strange Mini PC with an integrated 7-inch 1280x800 touchscreen.

I'm still working on my review, but it's impressive so far. Windows performance is great, the integrated screen is beautiful because of its high resolution given the 7-inch screen size. Android works well and comes with the Play Store.

Thermal performance seemed positive when using HDMI out using Prime95, though others have claimed throttling but I wasn't clear on how they were testing it.

I can see some applications for the dual screens - I'll probably use mine as a jukebox with the touchscreen used for selecting tracks.

I've managed to get a coupon for my readers that brings it down to $131.20 AUD shipped ($99.99 USD) but unfortunately only for 14 units.

The real advantage of this over other mini-PCs is that the screen allows it to have a legitimate $0 Windows-Bing license.

Since it is gearbest, you run the risk that it wioll be obsolete by the time it arrives. (Where is my Beelink?!)

    • I'm also wondering where my Beelink is. My tracking said it left somewhere in China at the start of this month, then nothing.

      • Chinapost tracking is not available online from Auspost, but if it doesn't show up in a week or so, call them to ask if it is on their system.

Yeah I've purchased from GearBest before - never again.

  • "I've managed to get a coupon for my readers that brings it down to $131.20 AUD shipped ($99.99 USD) but unfortunately only for 14 units."

    From what original price?
(just trying to determine this as a deal or an ad)

    • I completely understand. It's a decent discount from the normal price - cheapest I've seen is around $119 US. I wouldn't waste people's time otherwise. I've seen a few that are just awful lately.

Standard price is 104 USD and is sold for that much by a lot of other sites.

Bought one of these from Geekbuying.com last friday. Selected the DHL delivery option because it was only $6USD, and it arrived Monday 9am. Heres the link:

    http://www.geekbuying.com/item/PIPO-X8-Windows8-1-Android4-4…

Came to $150AUD overall. I find it very good for the price I paid. I've tried 1080p content from Windows 8 and it seems to be able to play it stutter free. I can jump through a movie and it plays straight away. I've not tried outputting to a 1080p display though so I cant comment on how well it handles that.

I primarily got it to go in the kitchen for media and potentially recipes. If something happens to it, its not the end of the world.

  • It's really worrying when you can't find any specs on the screen at all. What's the resolution?

    • I put them up there - it's 1280x800 and 7-inches

      • Ahh, I probably should have read the description on here. I looked at both the Gearbest and Geekbuying sites and couldn't see them.

  • Anyone know what the WiFi chipset is? I have one of the clone Intel Sticks (MeeGoPad) and the Wifi is terrible (Realtek RTL8723BS chipset, and quoting from anandtech, it is a "single spatial stream 802.11n part, with no 5GHz support and only 20MHz channel width. That means that we're dealing with a theoretical maximum speed of 72Mbps. In real world use, it's quite a bit less, as you can see…. 40Mbps"
    Thanks
    Nathan

  • Is this the same as the other X8 deals posted recently..?

    • It's about $10 AUD cheaper than the other deals I've seen so far.

  • OP, any direction you can point me to delete the Android boot safely….rather have the extra space for windows as the updates will kill the 10gb left in no time. Otherwise I am waiting for a deal on the 64GB version as rather pay a bit more for the extra C: space, if I cannot delete the android partition safely.

Hi there. I've found a forum post from someone who has done it successfully on a different mini PC: http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/intel-based-tv-p…

      • Thanks OP, much appreciated!Although I think it might still be a bit riskier for me anyway. Any chance you think of a good 64GB deal anywhere else else? Gearbest does not even stock it.

        • i would prefer 64 to the 32Gb, had a quick look and 64GB version does seem to be available - i've never heard/bought from these guys thou - any thoughts?

there is some text in red that mentions:

Good News: The first batch has come, please rest assure to place order, and we will make shipment ASAP, thanks.
Note: About 12GB availabe in Android OS; about 40GB availabe in Windwos OS. The tablet comes without battery, you need to plugged into electricity to use it. Right plug of adapter would be sent according to your shipping country. Thanks
