90

Best price I have ever seen and I have been watching them for 3 years @ $315! DjCity has them eof sale at $407. Soundcorp $429.,

1,000-Watt Class-D power amp technology. Just plug in power and an input and feel that volume and bass. Great for bands, mobile DJs etc.

I have a pair of the 8 inch version and they are great. I have some 12" ones on order. The 12" are $329 go figure!

The distributor for behringer has just changed, so if they run out of stock still call them and ask them to pay now and pickup when stock comes in ( couple a few weeks) but at this price worth it.

Loads of other goodies in their clearance sale:

  • Bought two of the Bluetooth version of these 15"ers for work as a general use speaker from staff parties to large boardroom presentations. Got the matching Bluetooth wireless mics and although the BT side of things has its limits (can't easily play BT music while using the mics while linked as a stereo pair) the sheer power output & sound quality of these is incredible. I don't think we've ever had them over the halfway mark, they just crank!

Yeah I have used my 8 inch pair (200 or 300watts can't remember which) for well over 100 people in noisy places like clubs and shopping centers. I have had them close to maxed out a few times, that why I have been looking out for a great deal like this. I went with 12" because they are still great volume, but are a bit lighter for my not so great back to lug around. The 12" inch do drop only a little in volume, but more so in bass. If your a bass lover, these will blow your mind.

      • Agreed, the 15"ers are pretty bulky and can be difficult to lug around at times but thanks to their plastic construction they're not too bad. Tough beastly speakers that can even handle dew or a light shower without any worries.

        • Yeah I have dropped, scraped and generally treated mine rather appallingly. Even run off 12v to 240 volt inverters and diesel generators. They keep on thumping the sound out. I use separate mics, an audio mixer and even a wireless mp3 player with ankle and toe switches to queue and fading music in and out all hands free. It appears quite magical.

  • Really like the idea of these. But I fear that they might not be suitable for my downstairs living area (or for my neighbours.lol)

    • The 8 inch really pack a punch for their size. Invite the neighbors over, that way they wont complain.

  • I'm looking for a home theater setup, anyone got any suggestions? The one op has posted looks like massive overkill, but maybe something smaller?

    • I'm also wondering, how would these fare as a subwoofer in a 6m x 5m home theatre setup? Would it be clear and precise down to say 20Hz at movie watching volume?

I know these are dumb questions, but gotta start somewhere.

Hi PSD. Not dumb questions but I've got to know why you're after something that can reproduce 10Hz. So many issues related with reproducing frequencies as low as that… the main one is that you need a very large area for the wavelengths to be produced effectively so although you may have a speaker that can do the job your room will probably kill its output as the wavelength will bounce off walls and end up cancelling themselves out. On top of that, there would probably be only one position in the room that would be the sweet spot because most other positions would be elsewhere on the wave and possibly even in the nulls therefore rendering the Sub completely ineffective & basically pointless. Either way, this Behringer speaker wont do what you need sorry :)

If you're setting up your first HT system I highly recommend you visit a decent Hifi store and get them to run though some basics… especially those suited to your budget! Don't forget, you could spend tens of thousands on an amazing system but once you set it up at home it will most probably sound like crap if you haven't properly treated the space it's setup in. So many more factors than just the size of the room but you may get away with just building a simple $50 DIY baffle board and that may be it but you may also need to blow $20,000 to get the most out of the room itself… and that's on top of the system cost. Here's a great page introducing the topic: http://www.rapalloav.co.nz/blog/Acoustics101/

Nice edit BTW! 20Hz is a little more realistic than 10Hz BUT even at 20Hz you'll still be facing the same acoustic issues above.

        • Thanks a lot Steve. Yeah sorry about the edit, 10Hz seemed a bit unrealistic. I'm just after that extra dimension you get with undistorted very low-frequency sound when watching movies, which I've only experienced once before. I think it adds more than surround sound or 3D or even picture quality.

Just read that article. I am actually getting a house built so there is some opportunity for me to do some room prep right from the start. That article you linked mention things like a channel in the concrete slab, which is the kind of thing I could get done without too much expense. After reading that article I think I really need to find an engineer to design it for me.

Thanks for the great response and link!

        • @psdillon: No worries. You can go to extremes chasing audio perfection so I hope you've got deep pockets! Keep in mind though, it's usually only the last 10-20% of the chase that costs the most but most people are more than happy with a system that sits at the 80% mark so get educated and tread carefully because if you do happen to have a lot of money to spend on building a proper HT system it isn't unusual to blow hundreds of thousands doing so. To me that's a waste but to others with the money that's nothing… even just for bragging rights.

  • Thanks - purchased 2 of these for an outdoor cinema setup - hopefully i will get decent sound from them both in the back yard for 2 people! Well anything would be better than the old Logitech X530's I've been using! Just need a mixer - maybe a Rolls like the one mentioned in the outdoor cinema guide at: http://www.cnet.com/au/news/can-you-build-a-backyard-theater… and then might be set :). Cheers OP for this!

    • I have the 8 inch mentioned in that article. The 15" will easily do more than 200 people in your backyard - they are big! Do you need a mixer for home theater? If you do how many channels do you really need? A small Behringer mixer would do fine - "IF" you need one at all.

  • Should I buy this one or the 12 inch wireless version for 345 ? Any advice for a newbie guys ?

    • @Holmes Totally depends on how you want to use it. Give some more details of how you intend using it.

    • Go for the Bluetooth version purely for convenience as you could then just walk around the party with your phone/tablet controlling the music & volume without having to keep running over to a stack of gear each time. The Bluetooth functionality works very well but just one task at a time. I only have problems with it when wanting to do too much ie. stream BT music on one channel while connecting the BT microphones on the other while trying to wirelessly connect two speakers for a stereo pair. To be honest you'd probably only need ONE of these for backyard party but buying two would give you the added benefit of using them as proper stereo speakers too either wired together with a simple cable or wirelessly paired in stereo. Great 'all-rounder' speakers that should last many years, even with light abuse!

      • For me i wear my mp3 player with a preset program and hidden switches for cuing and fading, and my audio mixer is right by my props if i need to tweak levels, so I am by it very frequently. This way I can use any and all combinations of my wireless headsets, hand held mics, mp3 players and when needed my laptop depending on show content. I played with bluetooth a coupe of ways (not the behringer built in they dont have in on the 8") but I always seemed to get a bluetooth lag in time and my timing needs to be precise at times.

@SteveAndBelle Is there any lag in pausing and playing music on the built in BT? There is in my cars.

        • No noticeable lag however I've never used them for critically timed events so that hasn't ever been on my radar anyway.

        • @SteveAndBelle: When I play videos on my phone through the BT in my car the lip synch is noticeably out. Something for the home theatre types to be aware of.

Thanks for bringing it up. It's actually good to note for those that don't know that these come in the straight amplified, amp with BT and amp with mp3 player versions. This straight amp only version is the best priced deal at the moment.

  • Just for kids parties at home or at friends backyard . Nothing major

  • Would these be suitable for a band set up in a 5x8m garage-come-bar?

    • +2

      I reckon the 8" would do https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/200118

However with these 15" you can always run them really low volume in the shed and crank it when you perform at bigger gigs.

    • +1

Yes, as per ShipShape these would be overkill in a space like that however it's usually best to go for over-spec gear if you can afford it (money & size wise) then just run them at half their capacity instead of running a lesser unit at 'maximum everything' all the time. You'll get far more life out of them plus they should sound a lot better in the lower-end.

  • Best price I have ever seen and I have been watching them for 3 years @ $315! DjCity has them eof sale at $407. Soundcorp $429.,

Definitely not the best price I've seen.. These actually launched in Aus at AU$299 when i bought a pair, they soon realised they had priced them too low and the price shot up to about $450

    • Back when the Aussie dollar was different with an initial release price you were in the right place at the right time. Good bargain for you. But as you said the price shot up quickly, so as it stands today and from what you have described it would be the best price in years? Allowing for inflation the $16 difference probably more than disappears anyway. But still got a great bargain.

Anyway as an owner of the them for many years, you are in great position to describe how you use them and how to get the best out of them. My 8" don't make very good comparison.
