Evening or Saturday Jobs - Where to Look?

Hello, I have a full time job from 8 to 5. I am looking to do something from 5.30 to 10 or entire day Saturday.
What are my options ? Obviously getting paid well is a prime necessity. Am just a pencil pusher from 8 to 5 everyday and am open to most sort of jobs.
So, what sort of positions/jobs should I search for ? And do you know what the pay is like ?

Cheers,

  • Uber is looking for Weekend Drivers. Give a try.

    • Thanks for replying. No Uber in Darwin bro :(
But I did talk to someone and wanted to drive a taxi. But looks like its almost impossible to get a Saturday only shift.

  • Venues such as stadiums/concert venues.

Maybe night fill at a supermarket.

  • Waiting at restaurants?

  • Pizza Delivery? Probably not the best paid job but your options would be somewhat limited given your schedule availability.

  • Contact local cleaning co's or put your name down at all the local supermarkets for nightfill.

  • McDonalds?

  • 7/11

  • Commercial cleaning.

  • Bakery

  • Security

Evening courses to get ahead in your day job.

  • Supermarket would love employees to work on saturdays. Having worked at a supermarket for 6 years, my employer would ask me every second week if i could work on the saturday. Saturday has a high rate of casual employees and alot of them don't come in a a lot of the time.

  • Nightfill is best, I work from 8pm-midnight, sometimes 6pm-midnight casual basis at Coles. Pretty chill job, 1.45 penalty rate after 10pm (SATURDAY) and 1.5 after midnight (WEEKDAY) if they ever ask you too stay back plus you get an extra 20% if you're casual.

Might be hard to only work Saturdays, as they often ask you to work at least 2 weekdays and 1 weekend.

    • How do you apply? I applied for the general one where you answer questions and give your preference and if there's a match they'll call you. Or is there a specific one with a specific location advertised?

      • Yea, I applied for the general one aswell. Once they match you with your preferred location, they'll email you and then you'll have to apply again for that specific job. Just note, they hire heaps just before Christmas, so start searching for other jobs aswell during sep-nov range.

        • Oh god I hope they contact me. Is it ok if I personal message you some questions?

        • @StarkIndustries:
          yea sure.

Dont forget that on the second job you cannot claim the tax free threshold so you'll be paying more tax than you normally would.
Can you get more hours at your current job, it will result in more take home pay if the pay rates are about the same.

Of course if you claim the tax free threshold at the second job you'll be hit at tax time and have to pay back the unpaid taxes.

Can you do a course like someone said above? Then you can possibly claim some Govt benefits, depending on your circumstances, and then aim to get a higher paying main job. Double win.

OP can't claim the tax free threshold on the incremental pay even if he can get more hours at his current job anyway. A $ earned at a 2nd job would have the same effect as a $ earned at his current job after he's filed his tax return and received tax refund/paid extra tax (as the case may be).

This is correct, the amount of tax is based on your total income, not how many jobs you have.

  • If you are under 25, try Subway. They might also employ over 25s but I have only seen unders in the shops.

  • I am a full time worker, start work at 3am finish at 2pm and my wife starts at 3.30pm. I am a full time father and I run my home business in the evening, it not good money yet but the only reason why I keep doing it because the money come in every month and I only did the work once.

When I saw this i was like wow I have to build it more. I ask the other people and they say do not quit your normal job, but find something else to do, do not get another job as you you will earn the income but it not residual income.

Look everyone is different, but however I am not trying to advertise here about what I do. I reckon that we as a parents have to have a backup plan that all. job security in Australia is a myth.

  • Have you thought about freelancing your skills on line? I know alot of people who offer their services on freelancing websites - eg writing, consulting etc and they make good money. Plus its quite flexible and can develop skills in areas you have interests in.
