Cheap Return Flight from Sydney (19/07) to Lisbon

Hi Guys,

Bit late for ticket hunting, from Sydney (19/07) to Lisbon (return after 7-14 days). The ticket prices are giving me a heart-attack, please help me find a better deal.

I am also willing to land on any major mainland Europe airport (Germany/France/Netherlands/Italy etc) and catch Ryanair or other cheap flight to Lisbon if there is a better deal/savings.

If some one has idea to bring the price down, please help!

    Hi
Can you post a bit more detail about yourself and your trip.

    E.g
Are you a student or under 26?

Budget? Or what prices have you been getting?

return date? 7-14 days is very vague…

I did a quick search and found $1959 the cheapest so far… Is that what you've been getting?

Departing 19 July Leave Lisbon on the 3rd of August…

Do you want to leave from Lisbon or another city?

    • PhD student, over 26. Minimum 7 - maximum 14 days (Plan to see Portugal, Spain and France this time). I am getting 2000$+ (with 36+ hours both ways!) on most sites, willing to leave from other city/country (especially France/Paris) if there is good savings.

      • You can go to Paris for ~$1536 with Malaysian Airlines through the LMTC signup through https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/192193

Or go to Paris and return from Lisbon for $1657.60 again with LMTC

All flights Departing 19 July Leave Lisbon on the 3rd of August…

        No long layovers.

        • Are the prices quoted on LMTC all in USD?

        • That's a nice find! So what do I do? Sign up using the code and search for flights on LMTC?

Landing on Lisbon and return from Paris would have been best for me…

Edit: if prices are in USD then what's the benefit?

        • @mustkill: hmm that's a good point actually not sure about the currency. CAREFUL @bargainaus:

But yes sign up with the code and play around with the dates and cities.

If the prices are in USD my apologies completely forgot about that. Try contacting STA travel. Being a student you may qualify for cheaper prices but you'll have to call them as you're over 26

          @knick007:

Prices are in fact in USD. Shame. Was looking for some flights myself.

        • +1

@mustkill: yeah usually with these sites it is quoted in the departing city currency.

          OP I'll keep looking tomorrow

        • @knick007:Please do, Thanks matey!

        • @bargainaus: Can you give a actual budget? Are you trying to get under $1900?

The problem is that if you go to cheap you'll end up with a 18 hour layover somewhere

        • @knick007: less than 1500$ would be nice.

        • @bargainaus: that is likely to be impossible. Again give STA a call you might be eligible for their discount flights.

        • @knick007: Lol, STA gave me the most expensive quote, subject to obtain an ISIC card.

        • @bargainaus: July is absolute peak season with school holidays all over the world. Good luck.

  • $1113 Return. Using a combination of Cebu Pacific from Sydney to Manila, then on to DXB booked direct with Cebu, heading out on the 19th of July. Then using Wizz Air to get you to Romania. Same combo back again, just play around with the dates using their own websites.

Don't get me wrong, it'll take longer, it's with budget airlines but if your up for an adventure you could save some cash.

    • Romania? I want to go to Lisbon.

Can you breakdown your suggested itinerary in detail? Also, Do I need visa for Manila?

      • You said mainland Europe… I know it's still another couple of flights away but hey, that's what travelling is all about hey?

        19th - SYD-MNL
        20th - MNL-DXB
        21st - DWC-OTP

        28th - OTP-DWP
        29th - DXB-MNL
        30th - MNL-SYD

edit: no you're all good for 30 days in the Philippines without a visa.

        • If I miss just one leg of that itinerary…

        • @bargainaus:

You're buggered. Done a similar multileg route when I last travelled from the Uk to Aus. 7 flights in 7 days for 400 gbp all up, booked it 6 months in advance and had a few changes to the itinery but luckily still all worked together.

Found some low $1900s via Etihad. A lot less fluffing around. Departing Paris as you'd mention before.

Otherwise low $1900s return Lisbon via China Southern.

On a single ticket to Europe
Cheapest SYD-Paris return 19/07-28/07 is $1750 on Zuji flying Malaysian

If you want to get cheaper you'd have to buy two tickets for example
$199 ticket to Singapore on Scoot on the 20th then SIN-Paris on Malaysian return is $980 at CheapTickets.sg returning on the 29th or $780 if you can stretch your trip to 06/08. Then, don't take the last leg of the return and get off in KUL and take an AirAsia flight back for $208

Total SYD-CDG $1400 or $1200 if you can take the return on 06/08 as 8 days is going to be a rush going through three countries!

    • What happens if flight gets delayed on separate tickets? This is my biggest concern.

      • It depends on the airline. AirAsia and Scoot will not give you another flight Malaysian might or will charge you a fee. You can always get a more expensive insurance which you should be getting anyway that covers missed connections but you'll need to read through the fine print to find out if you're covered as it may state for example that your flight should be arriving before check-in opens for the second flight or you are arriving 2 hours before check-in closes etc.

        • Oh man, all these calculations are giving me headache. I might take the 1750$ SYD-Paris return 19/07-29/07 and catch a cheap flight to Lisbon, later slowly returning to Paris before leaving for home.

        • @bargainaus: I think this is the best idea

        • @bargainaus:

Yup, although the $1750 19-30 is a better option as it gives you more days and is less transit time.

Also, you are probably better to make your way overland down to Lisbon and then fly back as the tickets are considerably cheaper LIS-Paris than the other way.

        • @zappy_32: I booked it. What is the time required for customs clearance at CDG airport? I've to book another flight from Orly airport to Lisbon.

        • @bargainaus: Depends. When I was last there they had 2 points of clearance as it was after the shootings. That is a police ID check before you could enter the airport and then the regular customs.
I'd say leave an hour and a half to get through and get your bags.

See https://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/forums/europe-western… for more information about transfers from CDG to Orly

        • @knick007: I just want to take a backpack (carry on), any suggestion?

        • @bargainaus: probably 40 minutes to an hour if you just have carryon. If you've been overseas before you'll know how much the times can vary.

I'd be booking that bus once you work out what flight you're getting to Lisbon. I've never done what you're doing (changing airports) so I can't give any personal advice. All I can say is more time is better.

        • @knick007: I've a conference at Lisbon 22-24 July, thinking of staying at paris for 2 days and taking an early flight to lisbon on 22. Never been to overseas before so bit confused…

        • @bargainaus: if it is for your PhD, why isn't the university paying for flight? They will also pay for accommodation at the conference location and entrance fees.

I've had to do a similar thing for a conference in France before. The university did all the booking for me, including bullet trains.

        • @bargainaus: Not much time in Paris though… I suppose you could go back after your conference.

Are you still wanting to go to Spain?

Not sure why you want to just take a carry on bag. If you aren't gonna rush to Orly then you may as well check a bag and take a small backpack as well.

Given you've never been overseas I am assuming you have got or are in the process of getting a valid Australian passport?

        • @knick007:

Ahhh that makes things a little more difficult then.

To be honest knick007, for 8 days in Europe over summer I'd just take hand luggage as well. You do seem to save a fair bit of time not having to go early to check bags, wait for bags etc.

Are you still wanting to go to Spain and where in Spain? Maybe you're better off doing something like catching the Vueling Paris (Charles de Gaulle) (CDG): 09:40 - Madrid (MAD): 11:45 for 69,99€ spend a couple of days then catch the Sleeper train to Lisbon on the 21st arriving Lisbon on the morning of 22nd for 50,40€.

No matter which way you go you're going to be rushed doing anymore than Lisbon and Paris with a conference involved!

        • @xsacha: Uni is paying for everything but I have already spent some of my allocated fund last year, so budget is tight for this one. Uni has policy to either book everything through them (they don't have time to check for bargains!) or by the student himself and claim later on (perfect for bargain hunting).

        • @knick007: Australia is the first overseas country for me, came here as an International student. Hopeful to call it home if everything goes well, we'll see. :)

        • What happens if you have travel insurance? Will TID or someone like that cover it?

        • +1

          @hashtagbargain:

Each insurer is different, quick look shows that TID would only cover it if there was a "special event" you were attending such as a concert.

          insure4less is more generous in that they cover you up to $500/$750/$1000 as long as you;

"plan to arrive at your departure point in
advance of the carrier’s earliest scheduled
check-in time and provide a written report
from the carrier, Police or relevant transport
authority confirming the delay and stating its
          cause."

    • Found the same thing on i want that flight…

3 hour layover in KL then grab a cheap flight to lisbon.

I don't think it is possible to go cheaper.

EDIT if you are happy with a 20 hour layover in Abu Dhabi on the way home and to leave on the 20th of July… $1622 is the cheapest
