Cheap Mobile Phone Sim for Kids

I was using untimedmobiles.com for my kids. They had a $1 per month sim card with calls costing .25 cents untimed and .20 cents per text.
I was able to turn off data and voice mail. it was perfect for my kids to send me a text or quick call if they needed me without spending money on extras.

I received an email last week from them saying they are closing next month and I am at a loss to find another provider with similar deal.

I absolutely must have the ability to turn off data or at the very least be able to have it cut off when the limit is exceeded. (otherwise my boy will send me broke playing his games)

Can anybody give me any suggestions?

  • Usually prepaid is the way to go for kids.
What plan are you on? Do you have one where you can transfer small amounts regularly to the kids' prepaid cards?

    Alldi mobile long expiry

  • I have amaysim's unlimited plan.
I looked at some prepaid plans, I have tried them before and what i found was my boy used all his up in a few days with the expensive data. Then he has nothing for calls or texts, if I refilled him at the rate he used it, I might as well buy him the unlimited plan. I guess one that has no data at all would be the go. I just can't find one.

  • Slimtel have a plan where you just pay for calls and there is no monthly fee:

But I don't know if they provide the ability to turn off data. Can you disable data on the phone instead and secure the settings with a passcode?

In my own research I found half a dozen mobile carriers which were cheaper than what you were previously on.

The spreadsheet was made for my own use when looking for plans for my elderly parents back 3 months ago:

Have never tried sharing my Google docs before. Let me know if you can't view the spreadsheet. In case you can't view the spreadsheet try:

    http://www.kisstelecom.com.au/famplan.html

If you are into unlimited mobile calls between family members then then another option is to switch the whole family to the same mobile phone carrier as some of them have free calls. For example unlimited Telechoice-to-Telechoice from $12.50 per month.

  • Awesome research! Thanks Mumbles, Ill go through that!

  • Hi All
what do you think of this amaysim deal for my kid
    https://www.amaysim.com.au/plans/mobile-plans/unlimited-xsma…

I spoke to them about if 1GB of data is used, then you have to manually purchase more (which is good…its not automatic). She was on the "AS YOU GO" prepaid plan but she texted mum so much she would always run out and I'd have to recharge. I would rather she have no data, but there is no such plan. For $10/month, unlimited talk and text, how is this a bad deal?
    Thanks

    • Looks OK, Amaysim's trick is every 28 days, not monthly. I think with amaysim you can cancel anytime if you're not happy.
