So, I just got an email for the birthday offer and was wondering, has anyone dined there before? (with or without the offer) For those who used the offer, how much did you pay? It's not clear in the email what is available for the guest.

Here's the excerpt from the email

    It's pretty clear:

    and

Everyone on the table has the same menu.

So you get a free 6 course degustation. Your guest(s) each have to pay for their $85 degustation. Drinks will also be extra. With two people you'd save $85 but still probably be looking at a $130 bill if you have an average bottle of wine.

    • Wow, I did not put 2 and 2 together! $85 (min) for 2 sounds a little steep for me though. Thank you for the reply.

  • I have not been, but a foodie friend of mine rates this place highly.

Actually $85 for 6 course degustation for 2 people + drinks from a Chef's hatted restaurant is like a bargain!

I've signed up, although I can't see the degustation menu on the website, just the standard a la carte.

"Degustation is more likely to involve sampling small portions of all of a chef's signature dishes in one sitting"

this is what you get for the degustation.

  • This place dishes up quality food. Been here twice, once for the feast and once for a LA carte. Also signed up for birthday meal, but didn't go. Had other friends that did, and said it was amazing. Agree with JB1, $85 for degustation for 2 is a good deal!

  • I'll be going tomorrow, so I can report back if anyone wants.

    • Oh yes please! Are you going for the birthday offer?

      • Yes, going tonight for the birthday offer.

        • The sample menu is only an example. I don't think I got anything at all that was in the sample menu. The food quality was solid and dinner started off well. However after the third course, service really slowed down. I mean really slow. There was almost an hour wait between the last main and the dessert. That wait period is unsatisfactory, plus there was little communication of why. 45 minutes of waiting after the last main, we finally enquired and they said they had a big function upstairs. It really seemed like a shame, as it seemed like a place worth re-visiting due to the food quality. Due to my experience, I'm unlikely to ever go back. A 6 course meal should not take 3 hours to serve.

You might have better luck than me!

        • @tanoshiiki:

          Yikes. Will proceed with caution.
It was a filling meal, right? Also, did you go alone or did someone tag along with you?

          Anyways, thanks for the report!

          @silverrat23:
Definitely a filling meal (even with sadly skipping desert partly because of the loooooong wait). I went with someone; you can't dine alone with this offer.

Maybe, I would advise when booking to check that they are not having a busy night or a function…

        • @tanoshiiki:

Can I ask what food you were served?

          @JB1:
They only verbally announced the dish names, so these are not the complete descriptions.

          1. Roasted Calarmari
          2. Steak Tartare
          3. Quail
          4. Prawn and zucchini risotto
          5. Goat
          6. Coffee flavoured dessert assortment
        • @tanoshiiki: thanks, sounds like a good combo

  • I went there recently and thought I'd give my opinion.

For the price it was good ($85 for 2), but if I were to pay $85 p.p. I'd be a bit underwhelmed.

Unlike tanoshiiki, my menu was no where as good.
    - quinoa entree
    - baby calarmari (best dish of the evening)
    - gnocchi
    - pea risotto
    - slow cooked goat
    - Italian donut with ice-cream.

I would have loved what tanoshiiki was served.
    Steak Tartare
    Quail
    Prawn and zucchini risotto

While the presentation of the food was excellent, the ingredients wasn't exactly fine dining, nor based on my meal did the restaurant deserve 1 chef's hat.

It took 2 hours all up, so dishes were perfectly timed.

I wouldn't mind going back to have their normal a la carte menu as other diner's dished looked appealing, but based on my recent experience I'm in no rush to return.

Since we're on Ozbargain, the lunch or pre-theatre menu ($65 for 3 courses) at Bottega was much better and my pick for best fine dining restaurant for the price in Melbourne.

  • Did anyone use their entertainment card with this deal? Would it work?
