Hi Guys
Need some help with my 2007 Toyota Corolla Ascent Sedan ( ZRE152) model NSW. I just got 1 remote key which has 2 buttons on the head and it works fine and is printed with "G' on it. Toyota extra security feature I guess.
I'm looking at buying another remote key which does the exact functionality as the original key. Checked with Toyota dealer & they wanted $400+.. Checked with Locksmith and they wanted $330. Mr Minit can only help with cutting the remote for $179.. Damn too expensive :-(
eBay has this remote with Transponder chip
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/111652642339?_trksid=p2055119.m14…
for $150 which I can program it to open the doors wirelessly ( not 100% sure if I can program but has few YouTube videos to help ) and another $179 to cut it so I can start my car.
Just wondering if there are any other cheaper ways to get an additional remote key.
Would this Remote key

work , if I buy this and get it cut and programmed, that way I will only spend $200
Any suggestions and help appreciated. I can't find a better deal on eBay :-(
Thanks
I got two key blanks from two separate eBay sellers for a 2000 Corolla. One of them was able to cut the key to code for a few extra bucks, which meant all I had to do was program it into the car using the turn the key off and on X times, open and close the driver door X times, type procedure.
The other key, I took to a local key cutter who only charged me a few bucks for cutting and I then programmed it the same way.
Much less expensive than the prices you're quoting - maybe the later models have different keys.
As for the RAV key, just ask the seller if it will work for your car.
You need to be aware that there are two types of key blanks - what I'll call clones and originals.
A clone key can only be used to create an identical copy of an existing key, which is usually fine, but you need to take it to somewhere that can clone keys and pay them $100 or so just for the programming. These are the type of keys that are often offered by Mr Minit and shopping centre kiosks and so on.
Original keys have to be programmed into the car's computer with the process that you seem to have found on Youtube.
One final point to bear in mind - you only have one key now. If you lose (or damage) that one key before you get extra keys, you will be up for thousands of dollars, not hundreds.
