If you have highly polished hard wooden floors, these mats scratch the daylights out of the floors. They help stop small stones, etc being embedded into the floors by the wheels of chairs. They can also help minimise the grooves that chair wheels make in softer floors.
Hi DeWalt. Thanks for your feedback. Its a timely reminder that before laying down your new mat to ensure that both surfaces are very clean so that there is not grit or dirt that could potentially scratch the floor if trapped under the mat. Yes they do protect the floor from castor damage :)

Np Rep. Just a note that I had recently purchased a heavy duty trolley(https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/189806) from Matshop . However, the handle doesn't extend sometime. I need to push the clip again and again to extend it. Is there any possibility of getting this repaired or replaced? Cheers.

i have a Herman Miller chair with Hard Floor Hardwood Caster Wheels, no need for this.

some chairs come with hardfloor casters, so people should double check what they have…..
Thanks. I had no idea. I just had new bluegum floors installed in the home office so the casters would be much better than one of these fugly things.
You can get a set of castors for probably around $29 delivered from amazon which is much better than a terrible chair mats.
Personally I prefer a carpet mat…these plastic chair mats mean the chair slides far too easily in my experience, I start sliding away from the desk…

I'm moving into a room that has a slate floor (yes that horrible crap that decades ago someone thought was a great idea; it's not like anybody needs a floor to be flat) and have a Buro Metro chair. Any recommendations (except for smashing up the slate)?
