With temperatures in the single digits here in Melbourne, I need a hat to keep the noggin warm. I am after a Merino Beanie but the prices I have seen are close to $40 each. Has any one seen them cheaper?

El cheapo is usually the difference between Warm and Sweating.
Its like wearing a poly jumper vs a wool / cashmere jumper. You sweat in it because of the lack of breath-ability.Merino or Cashmere provides a lot better breath-ability which means you will be warm, but not sweating as much.
I do a lot of rowing, so the temperature regulation and moisture wicking properties of merino are what does it for me. I need to be warm, but not too warm!

Why a merino beanie? I wear el cheapo ($5-10) beanies/beret-things and they make my head super warm. Sometimes they cause my face to flush/blush because I get so warm in the face. Love it.
Try an el cheapo beanie first maybe? If you're not satisfied, invest in the merino? (or maybe I'm naive and totally missing out on merino bliss?)
