Can we please ban all DWI deals?

It's been proven they are a bunch of crooks.

They sold a whole bunch of defective S5's on here. They don't repair or refund fully:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/191898

Also suspect they have people working on OzBargain to sell their products. 128 upvotes / 0 negs (until i negged) for what was an entirely defective product. See last few posts when people received it - completely faulty firmware, GPS not working, mobile not working.

When i have time will send a letter to the ombudsman.

  • Never buy anything from them despite all the deals, so can't comment. With online sellers, it is really an issue if you have warranty or defective products. Have good experience from eGlobal, shopping express and Kogan though a lot of peoples seem to complain about Kogan.

  • Bought a S5 from them in the last 20% off ebay promotion (late last year I think)

Havent had any problems with the device yet, so cannot comment on their warranty issues

  • Although Kogan has an overseas company for their mobile phones and some other products (see the fine print on their web site) their main company is located in Australia and in my experience they do provide genuine support and returns if there's a problem. I bought two products from Kogan. I had one dodgy product from them and they sent me a prepaid label to return the product for free and processed my refund with no dramas. The other product was of good quality and I was completely happy with it. So I'd definitely buy from them again.

Drop shippers are another thing altogether and it's big time buyer beware. If there's a problem and they won't honour their warranty your only recourse is to lodge a dispute with PayPal, your credit card issuer etc. If it's been too long to do that you're stuffed. So yeah, even if we don't ban DWI we should at least have a rule about drop shippers and overseas having to ID themselves as such.

  • i bought a gopro 2 from them, no issues with it

  • brought a S5 last year and was not satisfied as there was a defect in camera and all the pics were blurry, sent them all the details but still they replied its fine, i think its ok if u buy an apple product as u an go to apple store for any fault, so depends on what u buy, but for S5 i can say they rip u off

if i want to buy camera gear i always checks dwi and buy if the price is lowest (not necessary a deal from ozb).
    bought few times, no problem
will keep buying if the price is right.
    no store is perfect.

I had the opposite experience, from here:

    OnePlus stopped working.

    • Phone powered off and wouldn't power back on.
    • Contact DWI on Nov 10.
    • Told to send phone to Sydney.
    • Sent on 12th.
    • Received on Nov 17.
    • Quoted 2 to 4 weeks for the phone to be fixed as they had to send to Hong Kong.
    • Fixed on Nov 26 and sent back.
    • Received on Dec 1. (2 week turnaround.)

Quite surprised and happy with the resolution however it is only a 1 year warranty.

When you lodged a support ticket, what did they say?

    • I have the exact same story but with touch screen problems, I did have to repeat the process twice because my "repaired" phone had worse touch screen issues. But when I received my phone back the second time everything worked smoothly

      • Ugh. The touch screen problems are a neverending story. Both the lady and I have One Plus (no touch screen problems) and when we recently upgraded to the latest Cyanogen version, the touch screen is super problematic on just her phone. I keep hearing of fixes coming out but seems to be a reoccuring problem that comes up for random people.

        EDIT:
Mine is the Chinese version from DWI. Hers is the US version, bought direct.

        • Yeah they (Oneplus) go on about it being software issue and a bunch of people say it's a hardware problem. I'm not sure what it is but My Oneplus One has never been as smooth as my old Samsung S3 (at least when it comes to typing as that's where I notice the lag like issues the most).

The only time my One has been nearly as good as my S3 was the weeks after I received my Second repair but as time goes on I'm noticing the problems more and more. I know they replaced my screen as I had scratches on the silver part at the edge of the screen and yet I still have the stubble touch screen issues that I've had before. (The reason I RMA'd it was because the touch screen issues got intolerable but I always had them from the start just less severe)

  • I've bought 2 phones, a camera and lens from them in the past couple of years.

    Never had a problem.

I found it funny that one of the comments was "the instructions are all in Japanese" when the deal very clearly says "Japanese version".

Anyway I counted about 5 problematic phones out of probably a few hundred sales - I don't think they're the "crooks" you make them out to be.

    • It's not a simple something is wrong let's go fix it. It's not the same product as what i intended to buy.
      1) different firmware (japanese?) so apparently GPS C-A-N-N-O-T work. No warning about this.
      2) 3G/mobile coverage magically stops working every time i restart my phone for about 1 day. I'm looking for jobs so this is a DISASTER.
      3) Screen freezes when i try to enter my SIM unlock pin - never had this problem before.
      4) Randomly when i try to open apps it says that there is no storage space left even when there's 20GB left.

      • Have you ever installed a custom rom or firmware before?

Something going wrong can easily cause #1-#3 of your above symptoms and completely brick your phone. It could probably cause #4 as well but I haven't seen it personally.

I wasn't aware that Japanese firmware rendered the GPS completely inoperable but if you've done your research and that's true and unfixable, then you probably should have done your research before spending $400 on a grey import phone rather than after.

        • The same logic is used for victims of violence as well. Doesn't mean it's their fault.

DWI has the responsibility to make sure their products fundamentally work. They sold inherently faulty hardware.

Thus all their deals should be banned from OzB.

          @joeno:

Or you got a faulty product and you're having a hard time getting them to replace the phone that you bought and therefore you're coming here to cry for attention so hopefully a rep will reply and get you all sorted out.

Using that logic, let's ban DSE and not DWI, I've had broken shit all the time from DSE and bought two cameras and a printer off DWI that worked perfectly fine.

Oh and ban McDonalds, they mess up my order for my McFat all the time too, not enough sodium.

        • @smileymiwo: Lol i know right?

It was a Samsung phone so we should ban all their products! And it was a Japanese version wasn't it? Ban all Japanese products too!!

  • You're delusional. "People working for DWI".

Maybe you're the only one that negged the post and maybe you're the only one complaining about a broken phone BECAUSE YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE THAT GOT A BROKEN PHONE.

Damn that makes too much sense.

  • What ombudsman, it can't be the TIO as it isn't part of a phone plan?

I am guessing the plus votes were just from the price and before the comments about it being shonky.
(just revoked my vote on the deal for you)

  • No problems with them, 3 phones and counting.
