It's a trappist beer (not a trapped bear as spellcheck seems to think) as made by monks, much stronger, richer and more complex. Hoegaardens nice, but comparing the two is like comparing candy and chocolate.

Leffe's not actually a Trappist beer - its an Abbey style beer brewed by one of the international beverage giants. Its still a delicious beer, however.
