  • these are definitely the real G1W with the true novotek chip?
there are fakes around, especially on ebay.

  • Is it possible to hard wire the the camera for 24hrs recording with motion detection?

    • +2

Sure is but chances are you're going to have trouble starting your car.

  • Thanks OP

  • I have one of these exact models which I purchased from gearbest and it took like 3 months for postage last time. But it is defiantly a good dsshcam and they sell genuine, so if you don't mind waiting forever for postage then this is a good deal. It took that long last time I forgot I had even purchased it

  • Thanks got 2

  • I've been wanting a cheap dash cam so thanks OP!

  • Bought the battery version of this about a year ago but it died after sitting in the hot sun every day. Just bought this capacitor version a few weeks ago from gearbest and it arrived surprisingly fast.

  • +1

I think better use AUD on their instead to prevent Paypal CC overseas charge and I got $55.10.

    EDIT:

It changed it back to USD for me during paypal payment.

    Anyway, bought thanks.

    • Even better is to use a Bankwest Platinum/28 Degrees card with no foreign transaction/currency conversion fees, comes to AU$52.43ish.

      • My final price with Paypal is A$56.26, OH well.

  • Having issues with it after a couple of months usage. It turns itself off randomly. Initially thought it is the cable. Replaced it but still happens. It's probably some bad soldering. Have to open it and check.

  • Bought 2 … Hopefully it works

  • Double check gumtree first!

    • +2

It's hard enough getting the good chipset from proper retailers.

  • Cost $53.71 using 28 degrees mastercard.

  • Thanks OP!
    Just ordered two of them.

  • +1

Just ordered one, was showing normal price as $42.99. Put the coupon code in and its price went up to $63.83, but with the coupon, brought it back to $42.99. Don't bother with the coupon.

  • I have a 2012 xr6 falcon and ithe camera interferes with the FM radio. It's mounted to the windscreen as close to the rear mirror as I can and just next to the black dots.

Interference is on most channels in the FM band and impacts on medium to poor signals. Hard to say at what signal strength it impacts as there is no signal meter on the radio.

Cable is routed around the top of windscreen, down the passenger side pillar, behind the dash to the cigarette lighter in the centre console.

Tried with the cable pulled towards the back of the car and then dropped down the centre of the car to see if it makes a difference - none.

Not sure what to try next - try and source a shielded cable?

    • +2

Seeing as this thing has a "battery" inside, it should run for a little bit after the power is disconnected and it shuts down. See if the interference is still there if the power supply is disconnected from the unit AND from the car (I assume it goes in a lighter socket?). This will tell you if it is the actual camera causing the interference or if it is the cheap and nasty power supply electronics. If so, the power cable can act like an antenna and transmit interference. You could try putting a couple of ferrite cores at either end of the cable, these are the little round barrels you see used on some cables, usually with sensitive equipment. These damp out the interference and hopefully will be enough for the radio to reject it. They split in half and just snap on. You can buy them with the right size hole to fit the thickness of your cable, or if you can only get big hole ones, you will need to loop the cable through again to sort of make a knot to hold it in place at the ends. Have a look on eBay or try somewhere like Jaycar Electronics. Either that, or replace the power supply with another one, or with something better. If it is a mini/micro USB on the camera, consider getting a thicker/better shielded cable and run it off a lighter-socket-to-usb adaptor. I'm not sure what they come with as standard, I'm still waiting for mine.

Is the radio standard or some exotic imported model? My first "electronic" radio (admittedly it was about 35 years ago!, an Alpine radio/cassette they fitted to the Lamborghini Countach) could only step through 0.5MHz increments and wouldn't actually get the radio stations here properly, it seemed it was somewhere between the two steps. Worked OK when I was in the city, but whenever I lost a bit of signal, it would break up and whistle and have many problems. I always suspected it was because the unit was designed for European cars and their frequency stops were different from ours. Or it might have just been broken ;) It was bought and sold here so I assumed it was tunable for our local transmissions. I believe it is still the case where some countries have 9KHz increments between AM stations and others have 10. Could be a similar case with FM?

The other thing is, do you have a wireless reversing camera or similar fitted to the car? The transmitter will be cheap and flood the whole FM spectrum with interference, but I would have thought they only power up when you are actually in reverse. Just like those cheap wireless doorbells interfere with everything near the same frequency in the house.

Just throwing a few ideas out there for you.

      • +1

I have 2013 G6 falcon, I haven't got my dashcam yet but I'm sure I'll experience the same problem. The falcons have poorly made "rear window antennas" that just don't really pick up signal very well (and usually it's even worse if you have window tinting).

I've bought a 3m USB cable to use (I have a decent lighter socket-to-USB adapter, and I'll be attaching ferrite cores on the ends of my cable too :) I've heard reports that the cables provided with the dash aren't the best quality and have been causing interference issues…

      • Thanks for the ideas endotherm and webbiegareth.

I'm travelling next week into areas where it will play up so I'll check if it's the power supply.

Will take a belkin USB cigarette adapter and other cables to test with too.

There's a jaycar in one of the towns so I can probably get ferrite cores there to test out.

It's the standard xr6 falcon radio.

        Will post results next week.

Camera came with a cigarette lighter plug in supply with the lead cabled into the power unit - not a removable cable.

        • +1

Traveling all done and results are in:

Parked my car with motor running in a location where FM radio was noisy and dash cam was operating.

Removed the dash cam power plug pack from the cigarette lighter and FM radio immediately became clear, no noise at all. Repeated a few times just to be sure.

Plugged a USB cigarette lighter into the cigarette lighter with a different cable to the dash cam and FM radio was noisy with the dash cam operating. Removed the cable from the USB cigarette lighter and the noisy immediately disappeared. Another noisy power source?

Tried a different cable - same result. Both my USB cables were too short to route under the dash and around the windscreen so they were just dangling from dash to cigarette lighter.

Went to Jaycar and bought a pack of 2x ferrite clamps (part LF1294, $17.95 inc GST - the only ones they had in stock).

I reverted to the original dash cam power plug pack and put a ferrite close to the dash cam power plug pack, but had to make a loop to get the cable tight in the ferrite clamp - still noise.

Put the other ferrite as close to the dash cam as possible, again with a loop and voila, no noise!
Both ferrites were fitted - didn't try with just one at the dash cam as I was late for a meeting.

The original dash cam power plug pack is quite big so I'm going to try and source a good "quality" USB cigarette lighter and longer "quality" cable and see how it goes. At least I have the ferrites if needed. I see plenty of smaller ferrite clamps / clip ons on ebay from china for around $5-$6 if people looking for tidier solution.

        • @phila63: Glad to hear it worked! Typically the ferrite clamps should be fitted to both ends of the cable, but you may see some improvement sometimes with just one fitted. They should go next to the source of the interference; in your case we aren't sure if it is the power supply or the camera itself, but I would suspect both are contributing by being poorly shielded by design. Sorry if I wasn't clear about needing them at both ends. For sure, you could try smaller ones off ebay for a tidier solution, especially the one near the camera. I don't think the physical size matters too much, even though you generally consider bigger=better.

        • @endotherm:

Yep I realised ferrites at each end and I put them as close as I could to the devices.

It was an amazing difference. All distant radio stations had lots of static/noise and could barely make out what was being said. Ferrites installed and it was clear with no noise or static at all.

        • That's really awesome. You can buy then in bulk packs of 10 (in various sizes) off ebay for about $6 delivered, you just have to wait a few weeks for them to arrive. :)

  • Anybody got it shipping yet?

    • My mirror mount has, the camera hasn't yet though.

      • Also from them?

If so I think may because of high demand and they sold something they don't have stock.

        • Yeah both from Gearbest, two separate orders though (and apparently the camera and mount get sent from different warehouses anyways).

        • They said on the product page that it 'ships in 3-8 business days' (ie, their order processing time before the items leave the warehouse), it's only been five business days so far. Then we've got a couple more weeks of it actually travelling here.

  • This crowd is slower shipping than the place I rep for… :P

    • Same here … with my Lenovo phone and this cam.

But why "Cancel the item and we will refund you on your wallet future purchase. " not back to paypal.

      • …because then they still get to keep your money?

    • Well, gearbest is at the same level as kogan, dse and hn. Sometimes cheap, but always full of crap excuses.

  • It's been one week and my order still hasn't shipped. Not impressed.

    • But there's still four more days before they break their shipping date promise.

  • Is it just me or did they change the shipping method to Singpost Registered? (15-25 days)

    • In your 'order detail' page?

    • Mine said that too :(

  • what an idiot. message me telling me that I gave them wrong address.
and strangely I didn't even get their reply in my email until I login to their site to check my order status.

are we able to get refund through paypal for this?

  • I received my "shipped" notice.

  • Got a shipping confirmation too. Is it normal for it to be sent out with SingPost if you selected Australian Line

    • Mine got switched to "Flat Rate Shipping"… hmmm

  • Still waiting for mine to be shipped :/

  • Anyone had theirs turn up?

My shipping page says it was picked up from GearBest on 3rd June and shipped to Aus on 6th June. Really poor considering they gave the option for 3-8 day shipping. Didn't leave GearBest for 7 days!

I'm guessing this is standard faire for GearBest?

    • My order just shipped today. I ordered it exactly two weeks ago.

    • You'll find that the 3-8 days shipping doesn't include processing time. That's a whole separate thing and common with a lot of stores.

    • 03-06-2015 Received from Customer
05-06-2015 Despatched to overseas (Country code: AU)

Not here yet but then it's only 6 (business) days since it was shipped. Given it's shipping from China I believe 3-8 days about as much as I believe 1200 lumens coming out of a $4 torch. Didn't stop me from buying and I don't complain if it takes a month.

  • Mine arrived today. I had ordered it on the 27th May so not too bad!

Looking forward to testing it out. Its still on sale at this price btw!

    • When did it get shipped out?

  • Has anyone received their CashRewards rebate? I got one from an eBay purchace I made 3 days ago, but the GearBest one hasn't shown up…

  • Mine said shipped today by Australia Express.

Seem like they shipped locally, is that mean they were waiting for stock to arrive in Australia instead of ship from China? That is why take so long?

    • It might be.
I just went into the the "Track My Shipment" link in the Order Status column of my order and in there was a photo of my parcel in an AusPost bag addressed to me.

      • In that case shouldn't take too long to arrive.

Hopefully the same with my Lenovo K3 Note.

      • My photo isn't an Austpost bag, it's a plain white bag with "SINGAPORE" across the bottom, and is says "AUSTRALIA REGISTERED AIR MAIL" on it. I think I'm going to be waiting a while for mine.

        • Mine is a blurry photo of an SG mail bag. Putting the tracking nubmer in SG mail shows:

2015-06-10 15:26, Information Received (This is not an acknowledgment of the physical receipt of the stated Registered Article)

          FFS.

        • Yep that's exactly the same as mine. In the blurry photo I can make out my name and address though, so it's a legit photo at least! But I see that exact same message as yours. :(

        • @Martijn:

Mine status hasn't changed on the Singapore post website from this…

        • @maybeamacy:

Just rang Auspost, according to the helpful gentleman there, my parcel flew out of singapore this morning… but he did warn me there is some industrial action going on in the customs/mail centre.

Hopefully i will see it this week.

        • @Martijn: has your tracking status updated, or does it still only say 'info received'?

        • +1

          @Thrift:
          No change in status

        • @Martijn:

My status finally changed: 15-06-2015 Despatched to overseas (Country code: AU)

They only posted it on the 13 when they told me they posted it earlier :(

      • Mine says " Australia post Registered".
no pictures.. links do not work..
Aust Post says wrong tracking code..
        Singapore post says nothing..
when I click on "Download Invoice" I get "Failed to download please try again later"..

I think it was the second and the last time I use this site (first order was a flashlight. Arrived a fake looking one.)

  • I ended up cancelling and ordering the G1W-CB “Black Bezel” for about 4-5 bucks more.

Exactly the same as the G1W-C but the silver lens ring is black.

    http://m.gearbest.com/car-dvr/pp_196898.html

  • Seem like they still hasn't send it to Austpost only initiated. Even they posted the photo of the parcel.

When tracking my item, what does 'initiated' mean?
The tracking status 'initiated' means that the sender has entered shipping information into our online system, and either:

    a) the pickup has not yet been recorded in our tracking system, OR

    b) Australia Post has not yet received the item from the sender

Pickup information is usually confirmed within 24 hours.

    • Yeah same here, showing as initiated since Saturday 13/6/2015. So slowwwwwww.

      • Some said for Auspost and Singpost the status will not change after initiated.

        Anyone have experience with that?

  • Myi status hasn't changed but was delivered yesterday - 19 days after ordering. First and last time I deal with GearBest. If they had of said 10-25 days upfront then maybe but not 3-8 days.

    • Seem Singpost never update the status, I think the same with Auspost.

10-25 days is reasonable shipping from China, about the same timeline I ordered from banggood. I think the problem is they may ship all the stock from China to somewhere like Singapore and they "shipped" out from Singapore to individual. That may be why took so long before it said "shipped".

But with store like Banggood, they shipped from China already said "shipped" and it will take 3-4 weeks to arrive.

      http://forums.getpebble.com/discussion/7037/received-trackin…

    • Another question, is it by "Australia Express" in Gearbest order status?

  • what kind of GPS unit can I use with this one and what kind of software do I need to see video and gps location map at the same time. Thanks

  • Got my camera a few days ago and it seems it has the dreaded "hanging on welcome screen issue". Hopefully I can get it exchanged with no fuss.

    • Did you try without SD Card?

      • Yes. With or without card and tried with various settings and resetting multiple times. Happens about 50% of the time.

        • Just an update. I got a full refund after a few weeks of correspondence. These guys really take their time to respond.

  • Got mine today, installed no worries, night recording is a bit meh. See how it goes tomorrow in the day

  • +1

Auspost status just updated for me after nothing for one week:
    Fri 19/06/15 16:51
Arrived at facility in destination country at SYDNEY (AU)

    Shouldn't be much longer now…

    • Me too … so I think they took the eParcel photo from overseas not locate.

I think they ship the parcel from China to somewhere before it got actually ship to the buyer.

I think next time when we buy from them, ignore those shipped status. Just wait 3-4 weeks like when we order from Banggood or eBay that need to ship from China.

  • Finally arrived today from Aust Post Register mail.

  • Did anyone get the product/box actually labelled with G1W-C?

No where on the box or the instruction manual mentions G1W-C. I can't even tell if I've received the right product…I got an orange/white box labelled "HD BLACKBOX" and "CARDUR"

  • Mine still hasn't arrived. Also sent via Singpost even though I specifically chose the Australia post shipping. I expected Gearbest to be slow, but the fact that they've used the wrong shipping and therefore incorrect shipping times is so frustrating. That's twice this has happened with Gearbest, I would caution anyone considering buying through them, especially as part of an Ozbargain deal.

    • I just bought this dashcam and Lenovo K3 Note phone both arrived within 3-4 weeks.

I think if we just forget their deliver status they will arrive within 1 month. I think they didn't ship directly from China. They have all the order shipped to one place like Singapore and ship to customer from there I think may because of cost.

      • For some of us it has been four weeks as of today and a bad experience with GearBest.

        • I got my two yesterday, finally (plus the rear vision mirror adapter to attach the DVR).

      • I expect a long shipping time with Gear Best, but changing the shipping method and advising the wrong shipping times is misleading at best.

  • Mine never came, paypal claimed was rasied and money refunded

    • Did you order this deal? Or are you talking about the eBay one you ordered?

  • No i ordered one from this deal for the Mrs car

  • Mine hasnt arrived either =/

  • Purchased 27th of May, Shipped out 8th of June.

    • Wow, I ordered two of them just a day after you and I got both last week. Exactly 3 weeks after ordering.

      • Yay came today! Box looks a bit squished but i'll give it a go tonight.

  • Got mine today and just set it up. Looks good! One suggestion: Watch this video before wiring up your car. It helped me immensely.

    • Thanks for the link!

      • Using trim removal tool makes the job 10 times easier and they are cheap to buy from eBay.
