I find quite the opposite. I've been buying the upper range for many years 'Imperial' or something, usually the Bogart model. These sadly are not on special this time but I got them in the last 50% off sale.
I tend to find a pair of these shoes last around 5 years with some care - meaning shoe-horn to put on, and re-sole after a year or so. Re-soling costs around $65 or so, where they replace the leather and rubber sole with more rubber.
Be sure to buy a pair that actually can be re-soled, otherwise yes the shoes would only last a year or so, depending if you have in-step, etc.
Just my 2c - thx for reading!
Fair point.
I've never bothered to have them resoled. it seems a bit of a waste paying $65 to have a $99 pair of shoes resoled. The leather upper always seems to hold up fine for me, i just get holes in the soles eventually - i am quite heavy on my shoes so it makes sense.
Yep, also true - The Bogart ones to use my example are usually $300, so it is very much worth re-soling.
But when we get them on special here for 50% off, it becomes a little less compelling to re-sole more than a couple of times, as you approach original cost, and there is always another 50% sale around the corner :)
The OZBargainer in me made me purchase 3 of them in the last sale. 2 are still boxed up and stored away, to be used one day eventually.
I for one would definitely say the higher end Florsheim shoes are great. But I've tried the lower in the range and they just kind of fell apart after a few months. Sad waste of money.
Decent savings but the choice is abysmal.
If you are in Sydney, head to the outlet in Stanmore for more choice and similar discounts.
but the choice is abysmal.
as is the quality these days unfortunately…
I've switched to Charles Tyrwhitt so I wouldn't know. Was a big fan 10 years ago!
Mr. Money Bags… :P
@jv: Hardly! I have just been convinced that a bit of extra $ now on leather shoes means less $ in the future. Plus CT do wide fit and feel like they were custom made for my feet.
Haha, but you save $391! You're basically losing money not buying them.

bought a pair of florshame at myer in january, and wore it for like 5 times. Damn thing is a wreck, as in, everything is just so worn and stretched. Never buying them again.
It's getting painfully hard to buy any sort of leather show that isn't an absolute bomb. I might just have to spend a bit more to get something good. I am scared to even do that since I don't really trust companies nowadays to give a toss about quality.
can't agree more. It's ridiculous how expensive brands have the same quality as most chinese made stuff is. Best bet is to just buy oz stock made from real leather, or vegetables. XD
Do remember — Obama Wears Florsheim ….
Now that's one hell of an Endorsement …
These shoes however may be more like Bill Clinton endorsing a blue dress
from experience, these wear out as fast as many cheaper brands (Julius Marlow etc). If you go into their shops these types of sales are quite common.
