What Is Your Experience with S6 after 1 Month?

Hi guys,

I'm about to upgrade my Telstra plan and was thinking to get the S6. None of my close friends have the S6 (Most of them own iPhone6/6+/Nexus), I did try it out in the store but I was just wondering what is everyone's experience with the S6 after 1 month?

I've always been an iPhone user although I have also used HTC and S3 before. I wasn't so impressed with Android mainly because of the lag and that's one thing I'm worried about the S6. After almost 2 years, my 5s is still running fine but tbh I'm a bit bored of the iOS system and I guess that's my main motive for switching.

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

    1. Fast. Crazy Fast. Definitely faster than the iPhone 6.
    2. Well built.
    3. Battery life is disappointing compared to other droids.
    4. Camera is amazing.
    5. Expensive

Came from a OnePlus One and overall, wouldn't recommend it unless you really want the awesome camera or don't like a slightly larger phone. The OnePlus One is MUCH better value for money, and I prefer Cyanogenmod over TouchWiz. Ditch the Telstra plan too, I'm with Telechoice and I save a tonne of money on my monthly bill. I think I save around $500-$600 over two years. Only thing I miss a little is 4G, but 3G is plenty fast for what I do at the moment.

Otherwise, get the S6, sell it, and get the OPO, profit $$$

    • Thanks for getting bac to me.
      1. Good to know it's fast!
      2. Yeh played with it at jb today, solid feel
      3. How bad is the battery? I guess I'm not a super heavy user. I do listen to spotify quite a bit tho.
      4. Yeh gotta agree with the camera!
      5. If I do get the S6 I will go for the $95/month plan which gives me 6gb of data. I'm on employee plan so after 25% discount it's about 70 bucks which is reasonable for me. I wouldn't be on Telstra if it wasn't for the employee benefit plan.

I was actually gonna get OPO Until I realised it's so big lol. I'm not a fan of big phones that's why I was leaning towards the S6. But yeh speed and battery lift are my biggest concerns. I also heard that Samsung might release a fix soon for their Ram management. ToucHwiz has improved right?

      • can you get it on the Staff Connect plan instead, then it will be zero cost?

the s6 looks and feels great, and is super strong - did you see them throwing it off desks on the Today show a week back?

        • Errr u high?

        • @sauce2k:
err, No, can't you get a Staff Connect plan? you were saying you were going to get a staff discount.

      • Battery will often die mid evening (around 9pm) for me. I've had to carry around a portable battery pack. I definitely miss the removable battery, and although I haven't filled the internal storage yet, i'll probably miss the MicroSD slot at one point too. Oh yeah it's pretty slippery, I put a case on it immediately.

I guess with the 25% discount that's OK. If you live in a 4G area it would be worth it.+

Edit: The G4 looks interesting, if I had to choose again I'd be looking at the G4. I'd probably want to put Cyanogenmod on it though, stock LG android = poop

  • If you can I'd wait for the LG G4

    • Gonna look up G4 thanks

      • LG G4 is the same size as One Plus One. They both are 5.5 inches. Not ideal if you didn't like the 1+1 phablet.

        • Yeh way too big for me. I have small hands =[.

        • Actually the bezels make it a fair bit smaller. It's very compact. Not too much bigger than the S5.

          @sauce2k:

You can find out the size of a phone by simply going to
          http://www.phonearena.com/phones/size#/phones/size/Samsung-G…

First calibrate your screen by clicking the Calibrate button, then once you have a 1:1 ratio of the phone size on your screen, you can super-impose a piece of paper over your screen, trace out the phone's shape and then get a feel of what the size of the device would be like in your hands.

        • @scrimshaw: MAD! Never knew phone arenas had that function!

Thanks a lot. Haha G4 is quite big for me..man look at the size of OPO lol

Amazing internals: beast camera, fastest and smoothest phone I've used, and you already know it's got pretty much the best of the best in terms of specs.

Downsides: very slippery! Battery life is good but would have preferred a thicker phone since the camera protrudes anyway.

Speaker is decent but an area that needs to be improved.

Watched some good reviews of Spigen Slim Armour. Currently using one for my iPhone. It pretty alright! Thanks for letting me know!

        No worries!

Another option is to skin it with dbrand if you don't like cases

        • +1

Haha I would prefer a case. I feel much more secured. I love the fact they sort of protect the front as well due to the air cushion around the screen. Dropped my 5s (face down) a couple of times. Well protected (touchwood lol)

  • One of my friends says it is fast but it's still laggy on some apps. It's not about the phone, but all about android.

Well I am using 6+, it needs more memory like iPad Air 2 but my friend keeps saying he would prefer iPhone after several days using it. Probably next gen of iPhone would be better.

It's not about the phone, but all about android

More likely to be useless Touchwiz apps causing laggy performance rather than Android itself. Such issues are less likely to be present on devices running stock Android (Nexus, GPE).

Not sure if you've actually used the S6 but I don't think there is any "useless" Touchwiz apps on it anymore. Touchwiz has been cut down very very heavily.

      • I have heard bad reviews of touchwiz before but apparently it's being fixed

        • Not fixed yet!

  • I'm also interested in getting one but worried about battery life.

Any other thoughts on battery life?

    • It's never going to last you more than a day like a Note is (came from a Note 2 & 3)

Never had it die on me before I got home though (8pm), even after moderate -> heavy use with 4G, maxed brightness.

No location, no bluetooth, no tethering, no NFC, no battery saving turned on.

    • I personally don't have any issues with the battery. I leave the house at about 6am and get home at about 10pm with 25% battery left. Watch a little video on the train via 4g, Facebook, a little gaming and regular emails. Although I don't use it much during the work day other than for calls.

Should also mention I have the s6 edge so the battery might be a bit different, but surely not by much.

Also it pretty much fully charges in an hour, and reaches about 40% really quickly so if you're really worried about battery,a quick charge after lunch wouldn't be too hard.
