Gift for a 30 Something MOTHER (and Her 6yr Old Son)

My first thread (sorry if it's in the wrong spot).

I know this woman who has been ABSOLUTELY LOVELY to me and I want to get her a gift before she goes back to Indonesia.
She is almost 40, married and has a 6ish year old son (give or take 2 years).

I want to give her/her husband (and perhaps her son) something to show my gratitude for her kindness over the past year or so.
They will be permanently moving back to Indonesia so I don't want to give her something that takes up lost of space/is just annoying.

Ideally the gift is something practical to benefit her (and her whole family).
I am willing to purchase two separate gifts.

Any ideas?
I wanted something ideally AUSTRALIAN that she won't be able to get in Indonesia.
However, I would rather it be practical than just be Australian.

EDIT - ignore budget.

Obvious ideas:
- body creams (for her)
- Australia merchandise - tshirts etc

Thank you so much!

[Serious suggestions please].

    Your budget is $50??

    • It's the thought that counts. In these situations, it's better to gift the child than the parent, especially considering your budget. Can't go wrong with Lego.

    • I don't care about budget. I edited my post.

  • Not sure how Indonesia's internet is, but how about some magazine subscritions on iPad or Kindle (if she has one)?
Australian better home and garden, mother and baby, taste and many more.

Definitely some Eneloops and a charger. They'll think of you every time they don't have to buy new batteries.

I really like the Lego idea above. I don't think you'll find something to fulfil all your criteria.

    • Growing up in Indonesia, having torch is a must considering the black outs we get so i + this comment

You want to give a woman who is married to someone else body products….I can't see that going down too well with her husband. I think a mother and a father would always appreciate a gift for the son. And all kids like torches, especially LED torches that run on eneloops. Failing that, parts of Indonesia have flakey electricity - A couple of these would go down well (and they look and are packaged like something that should cost much more) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/195186

  • For $50 honestly you won't be able to get anything decent other than a food basket full of stuff like Jams, biscuits, bottle of wine blah blah or something hand made.

What about a picture, print or photo of somewhere local - a reminder of her time in Australia - in a nice frame if the picture/print/photo is cheap enough not to exceed the budget?

  • Wine for parents, toy for child . Done :D

  • Get few aboriginal products like boomerang and craft item. Last year my friend came and he bought it from Sydney around $60 in total.

  • So Aussie made stuff

Candles, soaps, snacks, jams, Tim tams

  • a few good books about Australia. you can also get a few Aussie kids books.

Why not take them out to a small wildlife park before they go, take nice photo of them all feeding Roos, and then get it framed so they can take it back with them.

  • For mum, travel wallet from Kikki K. Some might argue it's overpriced but I like their design. I have one and it's perfect for family of three to store passports, boarding pass etc. their current line is better than the one I have as the zip handle thing can be used like wrist wallet.

For the son, those $10 Lego (target having sale on Lego City and Star Wars) or a few of those blind mini figures (currently the Simpsons so he might not be into it)

I think a shopping bag full of other Australian goodies such as an apron, book marks, cosmetic makeup bag, card hold sets, beach towel and others in the link above are helpful. I bought those offline in the local Asian gift shop and the price is cheaper, but if you can not find such store in your area, online is not bad.
