I might see how my $2 One Direction headphones go first.

  • Unless you desperately need noise cancelling headphones (there are better ones than this anyway), do yourself a favour and get a pair of Audio Technica M50's or M50x's.

    • Better - in terms of sound quality, but not in noise cancelling technology.

      • …Better is a very relative term.

If noise cancelling is not required, my pick for high-end portable headphones would be Sony's excellent MDR-1A that's currently cheapest ever at $259, also from DWI.

The M50x are also great, especially at half price of the Bose.

      • Yeah, depends if you want to spend $150 or $250.

      • Are these as comfortable as the qc25's?

        • I haven't had the chance to try the QC25, but the 1A are the most comfortable closed headphones I've ever tried and I've tried (and own) many a pair. I still suggest you try them on for size before buying as some people with larger ears have reported mild discomfort from the ear touching the driver.

        • Forgot to add that the 1A's are a class above the qc25's in sound quality, but the qc25's noise cancellation is supposed to be the best. You can also take a look at Sony's MDR-1RNC MK2 - last year's predecessor of the 1A but with noise cancellation (I know, it's confusing), but these could cost you more than the Bose.

    • What better noise cancelling ones are you suggesting?
      Audio Technica: ATH-ANC9?

  • well, the ppoint of these headphones is for airplane travel, which this does very well

    • Yes, a great choice for a cashed up frequent flyer.

      • Can't you claim it off tax? Regardless, they are awesome for airplane travel, helps you squeeze in the extra zzzz when you have to catch the horrible 6am flights!

        • Perhaps, if you have a particularly creative accountant.

        • @elektron: I'll have to ask my accountant… I thought you can claim it if you have to fly frequently for work and you need it to help you concentrate on your work when you're flying…

  • This headphone is amazing. Best comfort and noise cancelling combined.

Can anyone suggest a more affordable noise cancelling option?

  • I am also currently looking for affordable noise cancelling headphones - can anyone suggest other options?
