I've noticed a common trend between many Coles and Woolworths stores that have little to no coverage which leads me to think they are using some sort of device to block mobile reception?
Have you ever experienced this?

is that you jv?
Jv jnr
Generally you get no reception because there is no inbuilding support from the carriers. For example the store is so deep without openings for the reception to travel, especially at the rear of the stores
thick roofs , industrial wiring , cooling systems.
yea man they most definitely using devices to block mobile reception.
other stores seem to be fine :/
its only ever at these stores, pull out my phone to check something with the wife, oh wait, no reception, got to walk out of the store to make a call, at IGA i dont get this problem
Local Coles has very limited Optus reception, but Telstra is very acceptable throughout the store
I have not experienced this.
you need a mobile phone to qualify .. styrofoam cups dont count :P
What store you usually go to? I can usually get reception if the store is 'free standing' (premise of it's own) but in a big shopping centre like Top Ryde City, reception is generally weaker.
i also experience very poor reception with tpg (optus) in woolworths/coles. maybe it is just the shopping centres
Probably just lack of signal, which could be partly due the particular centre unwilling to install repeaters, or coverage of repeaters not complete.
yeah this could be the case.
Mobile phone blockers are very illegal, with huge penalties, so I very much doubt that supermarkets would be using such devices.
It's common practice for Coles and woolies to block mobile signals.
This way, you can't go online and compare prices.
/t
But some of them "helpfully" provide free WiFi. So I doubt that. Rather it's that repeaters are needed deep indoors and not all buildings are equipped and even if they are, coverage can be spotty.
who needs cell phone blockers when u can install concrete walls
I have this problem in our local Coles and Woolies as well (both in the same shopping centre)l. I'm with Optus and have found that if someone tries to ring me when I'm in either of those stores, the call doesn't come through, must be complete lack of signal in the building. I was picking up a few things at the shops the other day on the way home from work and hubby (who had the day off) happened to drop by the shops as well, saw my car and so rang me (or at least tried to) before he came down from the carpark so we could meet up. He tried 3 times and got the "the mobile service you are calling is switched off or not in a mobile service area" message. We did actually run into each other a few minutes later, so I checked my phone - definitely switched on, but nothing about any missed calls. Oh, I did eventually get a missed call message showing his number and the time he tried to call me …. but not until 11am the next day!!!!
I have a local IGA store that has this issue. No way to contact the woman for the shopping list. So I shop there quite often.
lol
I used to have issues when I was on Optus, no issues now on Telstra.
get off the aldi website
Look up faraday cage, you are between rows of steel shelves packed with goods, not saying that is definitely the reason, but I bet it would contribute
Happens in some stores but not others. Usually have reception near the front of the store, but lose it toward the middle
No issue at my local shop but Highpoint (VIC) is notorious for blocking signal, Telstra reception dropping everywhere, the new David Jones section seems to be better.
Its your foil hat thats blocking the reception
