Original CDTECH10 post
Use code CDTECH10 to receive 10% off. I had the OnePlus One for over 10 months now, and I like it a lot. I had used iPhone4S and Samsung galaxy 4 previously, without any doubt OnePlus One is way better phone.

As this price, I would recommend it to anyone with an older phone (2 year+).

Cheers

  • That's legit!

  • +21

hehe those guys that bought one in the group buy thread yesterday won't be too happy

  • +3

    Also: Cash Rewards?

  • +1 for OnePlus One. Just received Lollipop a while ago and it's been great.

      • -7

agreed with Skyl, its a disgrace and a buggy mess. unusable. had to flash back to 11

      • +3

I DISAGREE…the new contact from Lollipop just a complete mess! List every single contact from everywhere, and you can't stop it..

It's not Google's fault that you don't know how to organise or use it's products, I've never had a problem with contacts and I've been using their products from the start and Android since the Nexus One.

Also I found that message don't pick up the name, if the number for +61 in the front too..just stupid bugs everywhere..

You don't have the country set in front of the numbers in the contacts, Google has required this for over five years. Once again learn how to use the product instead of complaining that it's rubbish.

        • Well it wasn't like this before when it's still on kitkat firmware, so yes it's google's stupid idea..NO ONE in their right mind would key in international code when saving a number..just plain dumb from google..

I know my Android phone, not just you..Unfortunately in this new lollipop update, many had to use more user friendly apps for messaging and contacts…

Again my argument is with Lollipop, not oneplus phone itself, the phone itself is great.. so I guess I should debate this lollipop issue on forum, not here.

        • +2

contacts are fine. dropping out of LTE every 2 minutes is not fine. quite like the look and feel of 12, but unfortunately not being able to hold 4g is a deal breaker on a phone… Works fine on 3g, 4g not so fine.

        • +2

also like to add the 12.1 nightlies unfortunately did not fix the 4G issues a lot of people are having.

Anyone who travels has the international prefix before the numbers so yes anyone in their right mind does save them and FYI Google changed this years ago in Gmail to put the country of the phone number you are saving and it automatically added the prefix and dropped the zero.

I know my Android phone, not just you..Unfortunately in this new lollipop update, many had to use more user friendly apps for messaging and contacts…

If you learnt how to save contact information correctly it wouldn't be a problem. Google had help on this available many years ago to clarify requirements for saving contacts. It's likely that the Cyanogenmod masked the changes in KitKat that affected display of contacts.

Your argument isn't with Lollipop but your use of it and the oneplus implementation. This is where the vanilla Android is so much nicer, no hassles with changes made by manufacturers or how Android operates.

    • Have they fixed the touch screen accuracy problem?

  • +1

I have one, awesome phone terrible build quality. Had nothing but issues with the touch screen, support is awful. Would never buy another oneplus product

    • +5

Amm they released a fix for the touch screen issues in the CM12 nightlies recently. You might want to try the new build.

      http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/discussi…

I have nothing but praises for the OPO.

      • Thanks I saw that though I've sent it back now for replacement, I've already sent the phone off to them though. It's taken about 2months for them to accept the phone back and useless software upgrades they knew wouldn't fix it.

        • So its now fixed or not fixed?? I am so confused…

The touch screen problem renders the phone totally unusable, irrespective of the specs

        • +1

@melfes: waiting to get it back from them. Haven't got the new unit yet.

I don't mind a phone having an issue, it's how support deal with it. And they knew there was a problem but they just messed everyone around eg asking for remote access to install patches on the phone from your pc

        • @willoz:

I have followed before as it had a rave on Ozbargain. Research showed what you just suggested—-felt horrible.

      • +1

It is not a software issue. It is a hardware issue.

        more info
        fix here

  • +2

Hmmm I actually need a new phone atm but is this really that much of a bargain considering the age and what else is available at the same price range?

I mean with all due respect the the poster he is comparing it to older phones in terms of hardware generations no? This doesn't appear to have dropped much since it was released unless I'm mistaken.

There's also the problem of it not being quite big enough but that's a personal thing ;)

    • well is 5.5inch isn't big enough your only other real options are a note or a nexus 6

  • How does this go for 4G bands? I don't think it lines up well with Telstra and the new 4GX.

    • I'm on Vodafone and I have the OPO, It's pretty decent I don't have bad cell reception but I know I don't have the best. But that could be either the phone or Vodafone itself

  • +2

LG G3 might be a better choice

    • -1

The G3 IS the better choice.

The OnePlus One was only good due its value. You got top notch specs (now, outdated) for a cheap price with the One. Now, it's priced the same as the G3 (pretty much).

  • +1

    G3, can't go wrong.

  • save $2 if you go to the group buy's item page directly! —> http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/291454218655

    • Is CC Electronics trustworthy?

      • they're the ones doing the group buy deal.. so yes

  • -6
    • I was not able to find this listing via ebay's own search. But yes it is $2 cheaper

    • +1

For an extra $2, I'd rather get it from an 'eBay Premium Service' seller.

  • Wasn't this supposed to be a $300 phone on release? It has been a year since now.

    • USD

    • $300 USD for 16gb version, 64gb was $350 USD i think

      • Hmm I'd still pick the LG g3 over this. This does have more internal memory though
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/194792

        • actual performance which one is better?

        • +1

          @melfes:

hard to say I don't own either. But I hear the one plus camera is average whilst the LG camera is really good. One plus may be snappier since its OS wouldn't be bloated down. Watch a few reviews to see!

        • @trumpedup: Thanks!

  • I'll buy from DWI because they have quicker delivery date.

  • At this price, the G3 is a better proposition.

The OnePlus One was only good due its value… but when it's comparable to the G3, why would you go for the One?

Near stock Android experience (with Cyanogenmod) with the One (i.e. barebones Android), vs the G3, which has better: screen, camera, software (which can be changed to Cyanogenmod if you want a near-stock-experience like the One. It's very easy to do this, I've followed those instructions if anyone's interested.). It's also more compact if that counts (but both are quite large).

  • The OnePlus Two should be announced next month. It's better to wait for "version 2" of the hardware, as they'll no doubt fix all the problems reported of the OnePlus One. Patience people…

    • +2

But then OnePlus Two is rumored to cost more on release.

A post on the social network Weibo by CEO Pete Lau put the OnePlus Two’s launch during the third quarter of 2015, which is between July and September. At the same time, Lau gave a hint about the price. He said 2500 yuan was “reasonable,” which equates to around $400.

      Which would translate to A$500+

      • +2

If the $500 price tag turns out to be true, and it uses current Gen flagship specs. Then that'll be a good deal.

  • -2

Have the 32GB for over a year now.

    • Lolipop upgrade came 5 month later than for the LG G3.
    • Camera not as good as LG G3.

    • Upgrade to CM 12 is buggy and phone is not very responsive anymore.
Dialer stopped working all together. Not all apps are working anymore.

    • OnePlus and Cyanogenmod have ended coorporation, which was the reason I bought
this phone to start with. (Stock Android has not all the Privacy features)

    • Battery is not replaceable, but that is the same with a lot od phones now.

In summary, I would not buy one again.

    • I thought they only had 16gb and 64gb versions of the OPO?

      • Sorry. You are right, it's the 64GB version.
Most of it still free, as camera/software are not really good ….

For me the end of the Cyanogenmod cooporation and the late availability of Lolipop
for the phone are the reason, I would not but again. Once the update came it is full of bugs. I know that this is not OnePlus fault, but that does not help me as a customer.

        • Haha no worries. Yeah I used to have a OPO as well. Loved it for a few weeks… but had to go back to iOS cause I'm too entrenched into the ecosystem.

        • Replace the camera with the color os camera from the OPPO. Heaps more features and better software.

  • +1

Just be aware that DWI has dodgy warranty practices:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/194182

  • +1

I heard the camera is crap, and the next version will be out later this year, so this model is almost obsolete

  • Interesting that the G3 had Android 5 in the test you posted back in May last year.
The update for my OPO just came ealier this month - one year later than the G3…

  • BTW for comparison I had both these phones for few months in the end the LG G3 won out. Way better camera, better hardware, updated OS. The battery life on the oneplus kills it though.

  • Best Android phone I have ever had. The most durable in it's size. I drop on average three times a week.
Going strong after about 8 months.

Only the latest lollipop upgrade screwed it up. Can't seem to make the time to put a custom rom in. Any recommendation for a custom rom on this?

  • This phone has great reviews but what buggers me is the fact when something actually happens, you are pretty much "screwed"..No real local support and from what I have heard/read on ozbargain, it's a pain to deal with.

Also if you are not great with understanding what customised roms are, I would strongly recommend you to stay with mainstream phones where you can just get the normal updates when everyone gets an update.

This is the cheapest price for OnePlus I have seen tho, if you have been using your current phone for 2+ years and don't want to pay a fortune for the iphone/galaxy/HTC/Nexus(6) get the OnePlus instead

  • Has anyone had theirs shipped yet? I ordered while they were still in stock and haven't heard a thing.

[edit - Disregard. Shipping notice came through since, and it is listed as in stock on the eBay page at a newer, higher price]

    • Actually, has anyone had progress with the order? My tracking number indicates it still hasn't been shipped, and PayPal accidentally charged my account twice for the purchase.
