Car Shaking and ABS Light Blinking

My car is shaking badly when static. At high rpm, it is minimal shake but you could still feel loss of power as you accelerate.

I have also identified that Abs light is blinking continuously however it is very dim.

I am very confused. Please advise the possible problems and solutions.

Thanks

Is it a blue car or a red car?

  • Blocked fuel injector?

  • What's the make/model/year? How many k's on it? And what was done to it on the last service (how many k's since then?)

    • Theist services was done 2 weeks ago and I only change oil and filter in the last service.

  • what type of car op?

just guess work at the moment, nothing i can think of to explain the ABS light blinking (besides shaking that violently that the car thinks its the ABS).

sounds like a misfire which could be caused by as pjetson said, blocked fuel injector, then again, could be caused my other things a lot more easier to diagnose (e.g. loose vacuum line)

    • 2003 ford falcon BA

      • How many kms? Who did the service? When was the last service that it got more than just an oil and filter change?

        • It is ex taxi with $600,000 KM. The brake oil, starter motor and coils were changed in November last year.

          @bluecasper:

You need to take it to a mechanic, it doesn't seem like you'd have the necessary mechanical aptitude.

          @Drew22:

^^this. 600,000km on it, could be any number of issues and I'm surprised it's not ready for the wreckers yet

        • @Spackbace: I agree it has high KMs but it is still road worthy. It has already passed pink slip inspection last week without any issues.

          @bluecasper:

Being road worthy and mechanically sound are two different things.

        • @Drew22:

          Harmonic Balancer.

        • @2jzzzz:

          Crank Angle Sensor.

        • @Drew22:

          Hyper Drive

Requires a good set of Hydro spanners to fix.

(srs OP dont post here, take it to a mechanic)

        • @zeggie:

          its probably the improbability drive

        • +2

@bluecasper: sounds like it could be missing the beaded seat mat

        • @Drew22: You sure it isn't the flux capacitor? I'm sure you need 1.21 gigawatts to go into hyper drive… or was that time travel…

        • @2jzzzz:

Harmonic balancer is a legit component that can cause shaking when the rubber perishes. Think they should be replaced every 200,000km….

        • @bluecasper:

I think they are talking to you, there's no one else there, so they must be talking to you.

  • The shuddering under power could be coils. BA's seem to love this, especially around those kays

    • I have new coils and spark plugs which I can change myself. Should I go ahead with this change?

      • If you have them, then whats the harm in doing it?

        • I replaced them 6 months ago.

        • @bluecasper:

It really shouldnt be coils again then. If you have the spare time pull the cover off and oull a coil out and see if there is any oil on the bottom of it. Mine had a buggered gasket and was leaking oil down into the coils and making it misfire

  • maybe coil, take the car to taxi bay and they should be able to find the problem, also fast and cheap, because they do it everyday.

  • More than likely running on gas as it's an ex-taxi, which could be the primary reason for running rough, or causing the spark plugs or coils to burn out.

ABS light could be a multitude of things on a BA….

LPG and 600Ks, may mean a burnt valve or two, Had the same in a commodore after 300Ks. The Falcon being an ex taxi would have probably hardened valves, but after 600Ks they have had a good run.. All cause the same symptoms as you indicate. The ABS is something else

  • Flux capacitor for sure, it's a common problem on BA falcons.
Take it to a mechanic your abs light will need a scan tool to trouble shoot.
The miss fire could be any number of things from a spark plug to a sensor or any part already mentioned, a good mechanic will diagnosis it in no time.

Disconnect the battery and wait one minute

    Reconnect the battery.

Chances are you had a temporary fault on the abs sensor and the reason it is running rough is because the car goes into a limp mode. By removing power from the system it resets the situation.
this happens more than people think.
    cheers

    • +1 for this solution. It is worth a go. Onboard computer is reset by removing battery. May be in limp mode and also ABS light on, definitely go for a computer re-set. Can't hurt.

Love it. Great sense of humour guys. Flux Capacitor, Hyper Drive, Hydro Spanners, Crank angle Sensor, Improbability Drive…….

  • To diagnose coil packs (do you have 6 individual ones or just the one + distributor?) disconnect one at a time (and reconnect)…if shuddering doesn't get worse when you disconnect, then that is the dead pack.

I had a similar shuddering issue which took Nissan ages to figure out…turned out to be the Mass Air Flow Sensor, though you should be able to tune the car so it doesn't need it.

  • Wind the odometer back to 10000km. Then you 'll have a near new car. Seriously, take it to a mechanic.
