  • Looks like a good price - any chance you'll be able to do a deal on the DR700 at some stage?

    • I'm interested in the DR700 too, DR450 beam angle is too narrow.

      • Unfortunately we do not have a special on the DR700 at the moment. Please contact one of our retailers for a quote. You can find your nearest stockist at www.brightgreen.com/shop

        • Thanks for the reply. I understand you don't have a special on the DR700 at the moment. Do you think it is likely you will have a special price for the DR700 in the future? I think it would be very popular here…

        • @Evil-Elmo: To be honest I don't think so. The DR450 will be discontinued and that is the reason for this unbeatable deal. Some of our retailers offer very good prices below the RRP for the DR700… especially when purchasing larger numbers of the downlight. You should have a chat with them. I am sure they will give you a good price.

        • @Brightgreen:
Thanks. It is a pity, because I'd love to deck out my 50W halogen lit house with a bunch of DR700's from a deal like this. Anyway, thanks for the response.

        • @Brightgreen: why is it getting discontinued?

        • @kllq: Surely they have a cheaper and/or better model to replace it.

    • For what it's worth, I am a big fan of the DR700 (https://brightgreen.com/au/led-lights/dr700-retrofit-downlig…). Put probably close to 40 of the things in my house as I couldn't find anything that came close to them as far as equivalence to the 50W halogens as well as being able to work with the transformers I have. I still had some 40 or so left to do in the house, and had them all replaced with these: http://haielo.com/index.php/products/led/6w-hpf-retrofit-lam…. Cost me nothing (as I'm in Victoria), and frankly I think they are slightly brighter than my DR700s even though it's 6W versus 10.5W. I might even move some around to take advantage of the brighter light for less power. The DR700 is still better in some ways - for example a longer warranty and it may (didn't work with mine) be able to work with a dimmer - but overall I'm impressed. As good as the DR700 was and still is, technology has moved on and they do now have competition….

      • Hi! Thanks for your feedback. We are glad to hear that you are happy with the DR700s. I just had a look at the link to the other LED you posted. On that page it says that they have a lumen output of 440 lumens. The DR700 comes with 720 lumens which is exactly the lumen output of a standard 50W halogen. According to this information the Haielo lights should be noticeably darker. I guess in the end it is a personal decision what you expect from a light… if you want a premium downlight that looks nice in the ceiling, is dimmable, comes with a longer warranty and is made of high quality materials, the DR700 is the way to go.

        • I know. Weird isn't it? But yes, the light output is subjectively (I of course don't have the kit required to actually measure lumen output accurately) very similar, with my feeling the DR700 is just a little darker. Perhaps, unlike some manufacturers they under estimate the lumen output? Or perhaps they are a little cooler making it appear brighter? Not sure, but in any case I'm happy. Also happy with the DR700s - if these 'freebies' fail I can always put in some Brightgreens!

        • So is the lumens the only thing that determines the actual light presence in a given area?

      • Which transformers are you using with them? Are they the electronic Halogen ones or the Iron core ones? I'm interested to know how these work with the electronic halogen ones. All the other LED MR16 replacements i've tried flicker like crazy due to the lack of current running through the transformers.

        • +1

Standard little electronic transformers, not the old iron core jobs. Haven't tried the Haielo lights on dimmer circuits, but they say it's not supported so I'm not going to bother. My DR700s worked on some of the dimmers I have, but with some flickering that was just too annoying. Also found them to go from really bright, to fairly bright, to bright, to off - in other words, didn't really provide that dim lighting we wanted.

Your mileage may vary of course. If you haven't tried them, give the DR700s a shot - they are really good and two years ago were the only LED MR16 replacements I found that worked with my transformers. If you're in Vic, can always try the Haielo for free and if they flicker or aren't bright enough etc, can always tell them to forget it…. and then try a DR700! [can probably also get them installed at a discount if in Vic if you hunt around].

Definitely worth doing though - I estimate that replacing the lights paid for themselves in less than a year. Two years down the track now, and I'm well ahead.

        • As an idea, the Haileo he's referring to are generally known as the Primsal here. I've recently fitted them out in my place using 50/50 iron core and electronic transformers. (Surprisingly) brilliant light compared to the halogens I replaced, slightly whiter and definitely brighter at the wider angles. The iron core Mirabellas run them no probs. the Nelson electronics have that initial flick as I've been told all electronics do, but on just a couple of occasions the transformer obviously hasn't triggered and I've had to flick them off and on!

Do you have them in colours other the bright green?

    • +2

Hi, our company's name is Brightgreen. The downlight comes with a warm white light (2,700K).

  • Rep, any GU10 bulbs?

    • Unfortunately we do not have a special on the DR450 GU10 at the moment. Please contact one of our retailers for a quote. You can find your nearest stockist at www.brightgreen.com/shop

      • m9, please post a deal if you find one on GU10 bulbs.

Rep, please consider a special on GU10s!

  • Anyone know if these are easy to install yourself?

    • +1

Yes only 12v ,plug into standard Mr16 connector

    • Depends what type of fitting you currently have in your roof!

  • Yes would be interested in some dr700's

    • Unfortunately we do not have a special on the DR700 at the moment. Please contact one of our retailers for a quote. You can find your nearest stockist at www.brightgreen.com/shop.

  • Can these be used with standard electronic transformers or do you need the special LED ones?

    • Hi, you can use them with standard transformers. No need for LED drivers.

  • Are they the same length as normal halogen ones ie depth from pins to lens? Just worried about them 'poking' out of the gimbal if they are bigger

  • good quality lights.

  • Hi Rep, just wanted to confirm that these LEDs can be used with dimmer switches?

    • Hi, some dimmer switches work better than others. If you send me the exact name of the dimmer I am happy to have a look for you. Please send an email to [email protected].

      • How exactly would I check this?

        • I just double checked with our technician. He said this: The DR450 can be dimmed, although in order to maximise dimming performance we recommend using an electronic transformer such as the Osram Redback and pairing that with a Universal dimmer such as the Clipsal 32E450UDM. It’s best to give us a call to work out which transformer or dimmer will work best for your installation.
If you would like to discuss it in detail call us on 1300672499.

  • Do they run hot like a normal halogen?

    • Hi, the DR450 does not run hot like a halogen. The maximum operational temperature is 65 degrees.

      • Wow so no concerns about insulation etc around them. When I saw the title 'Halogen LED' I thought it meant they were still Halogen…

  • Thanks. Hopefully these work with my transformers.

  • Hi Rep,
I live in Victoria and am wondering if you can claim a rebate for these globes under the VEET?
    Thanks.

  • Ordered 4 of these for my house to replace my current 4x 50w halogens in a line (about 1m between each. Hoping the beam angle works out alright!

  • I did put an order in for DR700 over a week ago but……

Now the cheapest I can find is $39 http://lightingmatters.com.au/6_buy-brightgreen-led-lights-d…

  • for the uninitiated - these are 12v right? and not 240v?

    • +1

      MR16 GU5.3 is 12V
      GU10 is 240V

  • IMO, Brightgreen downlights are overrated and over priced.

    • you're probably the only one

    • At RRP, probably. At $9 delivered, not so much.

    • I am a big fan of the Brightgreen stuff, but I usually replace the whole light fitting.
I have found them to be the best quality and highly suited to rooms like the kitchen and bathroom where you want a lot of light.
But, I am happy with the cheap, dull sh!tty ones off ebay or from Bunnings/Masters for my living room and TV room.

  • Great deal. I have been waiting for a good deal on LED halogen replacements and this
    fits the bill perfectly.
    Just ordered some.Thanks.

    • You can give us a call to find out what stock is on sale at the moment. Our number is 1300672499.

      • Umm, I was asking about the "free extended warranties" (follow link).

It says: "To receive an extended warranty simply ask your Brightgreen retailer during your purchase and be sure to give them your name and e-mail address so we can send out your warranty extension." I'm guessing in this case you are our Brightgreen retailer :)

        • Ah sorry… I thought the link goes to another page. No unfortunately we do not offer warranty extensions on clearance sale products.

    @Brightgreen:

How can I check status of my DR450 order? Logging into website gives me nothing. I got a paypal receipt, but no invoice or order from Brightgreen.

    • +1

Your order is being processed at the moment and will get sent out shortly. You will receive the invoice with your delivery.

    Couple of things:

First - I installed a DR450 last night and it is much better than I expected. The brightness is not far off the 50W halogens I'm using, narrower though. It is also quite a bit whiter (less warm). I get a little flicker when they first turn on but then it seems ok.

I have clipsal trailing edge dimmers and electronic transformers (not sure which type - black oval things) and the dimming performance was very good. At lowest it appeared to be brighter than the halogens which could limit where we put them (we often use the halogens at lowest dim setting to watch movies and the like).

Based on this experience I (a) wish I'd bought more (I only bought 6 as a trial), and (b) would love to try some DR700s.

Secondly - rep it appears you've changed this deal from what it once was to something completely different (i.e. it was for DR450s and is now for D900s). This is a bit misleading as the comments and positive votes relate to the original deal. In future, I suggest making a completely new deal (e.g. for the D900) instead of editing an old one with new content.
