  • I know its an Entry Level DSLR and is not being sold anymore , its a good deal for begineers - and a great deal if it includes LENS as well

  • Big W went HAM with these last Christmas. something like $494 with $100 Canon Cashback. great camera & this price is still pretty good for it

    • That cashback was so good

Great camera. Can't believe they are still selling this model. It's like the "ipad 2" of the canon dslrs.

    • Yes Allan, I am using it and Love it

  • How does this camera compare to the Nikon D3300 Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm Single VRII Lens Kit for $498 after cash back at harvey norman ?

      http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-600d-vs-Nikon-D3300

Can't say much for the 600d but the d3300 and pretty good image quality. The 18-55mm kit lens is great nice, sharp and compact and doubt anyone would be disappointed with the results. But if you do get the d3300 do yourself a favour and spend $218 on the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm 1:1.8G DX.

Also, don't be put off by the poor Snapsort scores - Snapsort is pretty blunt instrument. At a glance, it looks like the Nikon has absolute advantage, but there are quirks - for example, entry level Nikons don't do auto-bracketing… That said, almost any dSLR these days is capable of amazing photos.

Keep in mind that if you're looking at an SLR for lens flexibility, you're buying into an ecosystem. Both Canon and Nikon have enormous choice available, but once you start buying lenses and accessories, you're invested / committed. You can swap down the line, sure, but you're tearing up money and time (muscle memory / leaning menu structures etc).

My advice to friends is usually go and play with them in a store - one will feel right in your hands.

snapsort is seriously the WORST for comparisons.. they get specs wrong too -_-

    • They're similar enough that you should just go with the one that feels most natural to you.

I'm pretty sure I bought this one 1,5yr ago in OW with the kit lens for around $500 or less.

    • Yeah, I bought it with the twin lens kit in Oct 2012 for $449 from Ted's. The dollar has a little to do with it but Canon have been dragging their line out until they could catch up with the 750/760's. It was a toss up between the the 650d at the time, but the ability to pull 1080p out of the centre of the sensor swung me to the 600d. I bought the the 650d a week later anyway. The 600d in the end has hardly had any use, but is a great camera with only a fraction less image quality compared to the 650d/700d.

      • Opps…Just checked it was body only for the 600d at $449, I bought the 650d with twin lens from Kogan for $378 two weeks later.

        • 650D with twin lens $378 in 2012?? Whaaaat….

        • @CVonV: Yep, think it was a stuff up on their web site for a few days sale, hence I went for it after just getting the 600d. But the going rate was only $100 more at the time. It took a week or so before shipping. The actual shipping time was under 24 hours though. It was an Ozbargain posted deal. I have never used the lenses, if anyone is interested.

        • @Major Mess:

Omg can't believe they honoured it. Link? ><

        • @CVonV: From memory the body only was around $30 cheaper, which was the Ozbargain posted deal.

        • @Major Mess:

Can't find it amongst the search results for "650d kogan" :S
