Upgrade from Nexus 4 to what? Vote in the poll!

Hey All,

I know I could probably just research myself but I value all your input more than the general internet population.
I have a nexus 4, the screen has broken for a second time in just over a month. I loved it apart from the fact the battery ended up being pretty bad in the end.
So time to upgrade, keen to stay with Android, could possibly do windows mobile 8.1 but def dont want Apple. I been looking on here but nothing has come up and (if it is worth it) would like to get an AU one soon as going overseas at end of month (so can do TRS).

So ideas? Sony, LG, Samsung. As not too fussed basically one that is the best deal around at moment. round $400 would be good.

All input appreciated.

Maybe if get a few initial ideas of the main ones about I can set up a poll.

Nexus 5? For the stock Android experience, though I think you might be better off waiting for the newer nexus since Nexus 5 has officially been discontinued.

LG G2? Or even G Pro 2, if you are looking for a big phone.

Galaxy S4 with Snapdragon 800 (goes slightly over $400 but with TRS I think it would come down to $400 from Mobileciti)?
Wait till Galaxy S5 comes down to $400 region? It might come down to that region faster since S5 was the biggest flop that Samsung ever had and I've heard that it's on sale in other countries, might happen in Australia soon.
    Zenfone 2 (No TRS though)?

I think anything with Snapgragon 800 is still a decent phone. QHD resolution sort of cancelled some of the performance increase from 800 to 805, imo. If you can get newer flagships for a cheap price, obviously newer one would be better, but flagships with snapdragon 800 wouldn't be a bad choice (especially since they are much cheaper now).

  • I went from Galaxy Nexus to Nexus 5, super happy with both of them. Got the Nexus 5 for $300 factory refurbished too.

Went from N4 to Oneplus one.
Hands down the best phone, battery last ages.

  • Well, I went from Nexus 4 to Huawei Y550. Cant say if it was an upgrade or downgrade, but the battery life is far better.

    • +1 for the Y550.

      • Yeah, 300$ (Nexus 4) in 2013 to 45$ (Y550) in 2015. I don't even use any cover/protector for it, full on commando mode! :P

  • Had a look into OPO and seems a goer. Then realised it doesn't run android?? whats go there? i assume you can still get google play and apps from there?? did quite like the lollipop update on my nexus4… is that how they keep price cheap? are you likely to run into issues like with the old HP webOS becoming obsolete??

Runs a custom version of android called cyanogenmod. Also just got the lollipop update.

      • So whats the difference?? do most phones run a custom version of android?? has it got same features i.e. 'ok google'

        • It's the same, minor differences include more features and what so….
Great phone, runs Android smooth and perfect. Only thing is if you buy the Asian version you will need to flash CM onto the device (not hard).

        • This should give you more of an idea.
Also, check out some video reviews of the OPO.

  • look at a sony Z3 Compact, or even the full sized Z3. fantastic battery life.

  • LG G3 looks like it may be a winner. Anyone know cheapest place to get? I can get TRS at end of month but seem likely that best to get grey market anyway.. Thoughts?

    • Solid data analysis letting the poll go for an hour.

      • hahahaha had a look at a few comparisons for Lg G3 and OPO and seems G3 bit better but just bit more expensive. Will let the poll go. Figure OPO should get bit of handicap also as bit of a less known phone (to me anyway).

    • You could always check out Ozbargain - tho you have missed the $10 off special :-p

  • Asus Zenphone 2? Looks pretty good to me

    • good

  • YOU NEED A MOBILE THAT DOES LTE 700MHZ FOR 4G, OPTUS, VODAFONE & TELSTRA

    • +1

Band 28 700mhz LTE to be more precise. There is more than one band in the 700mhz frequency.
I believe the Oneplus One and the Nexus 5 don't have that.
Regional 4G coverage with Optus uses band 28.

And you need to find your capslock key

      • I choose to go ALL CAPS or not to capitalize. the end

The ONLY reason you type this dumb ass rule is because some TOLD YOU NOT TOO… ignore them and join with me in the freedom to CAP AT WILL

  • Why is 32gb 40 bucks cheaper than 16gc on Kogan, am i missing something https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/lg-g3-d855-4g-lte-32gb-black/

Also Becextech also seems round 460 delivered. Reviews seem decent and ships quicker than Kogan. http://becextech.com.au/catalog/mobile-phones-lg-handset-lg-…

    Are they alright??

    • Recent price change I think, plus the $50 off the 32GB they have at the moment. I ordered one for $468ish delivered. Ordered on 04/05 and just received confirmation last night that is had been shipped from HK.
