Amazon's Description:

Whether you're a student or professional, you're probably under pressure to learn ever more information in far less time. Although online searches happen in milliseconds, following the results can sometimes lead you down the wrong track and ultimately be slower than checking a paper textbook or journal. True, Google now searches scanned books too, but not even Google can digitize all the world's paper. Yet if you look around your study hall, office, or local coffee shop, you're likely to see plenty of paper sitting side-by-side with computers.

That is ironic, since ultra-powerful personal computers have been capable of helping us with that paper for years now. But the serious learner rarely sees such computing power applied to his materials. Have you ever tried replacing your paper textbooks with their Kindle, Nook, or iPad versions? If you weren't very impressed, you're not alone! After all, you approach "Molecular Biology of the Cell" very differently from "Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone." Your materials require more study and analysis than today's e-reading platforms typically allow, especially because those systems intentionally limit your ability to doodle, share, comment, and resell—things we expect naturally from paper. This matters because much of the world's knowledge is still on paper, not digitized. Even Google Books invites you to buy paper copies of the works it displays! For the most computer-savvy generation of learners ever, this is madness.

This book is designed to offer a solution. It applies some of the best technological ideas from the past twenty years to your learning materials, through a digital learning system called Caesar, a mnemonic for Computerize, Study, and Remember. In the Computerize phase, you'll see how to create a durable library of DRM-free, searchable PDFs using inexpensive, if not free, technology. In the Study phase, you’ll learn how digital study tools (DST) will accelerate your learning, whether you’re exercising, commuting, or working at your desk. You’ll also save an enormous amount of time with free PDF editing tools (notably Adobe Acrobat Pro and Foxit Reader), note-taking software (especially OneNote and Evernote) and macros (including AutoHotkey, Quicksilver, and Autokey). Plus, you’ll learn how to outperform your paper-toting peers using the "five second rule," a clever tagging technique that uncovers anything you deem important in under five seconds. In the Remember phase, you’ll apply paper-world memory techniques such as Herigone's mnemonic system to the digital-world. You’ll also benefit from tag browsing, spaced repetition, masking, and text-to-speech (TTS) technology. As a result, you’ll more rapidly prepare for final evaluations, meetings, and other important events. Best of all, you’ll discover ways to recall your materials years or decades later.

  • Interesting. The first Kindle book I've downloaded in a long time I've actually opened up to look at.

    • What did you think?

      • I've only skimmed a bit, but the writing looks genuinely like someone who has gone through the process himself and is now putting it out there for the benefit of others. It doesn't appear to be one of those 'fluff' ebooks that was published for the sake of becoming a published author.
