My trip will cost me close to $1000 for Qantas.
but $486 for Scoot (inc. Check-in luggage + meal + Snooze Kit + Seat selection)
      Oh yeah!

Why so negative? Someone must have burnt their toast this morning

Don't pack like a 14 year old girl + wear a jumper + bring a drink + you don't have an iPad? + fuel & tax are included in the price…

$399 Scootbiz. Meals and baggage included? How is that more than Qantas?

  • +2

I'm flying from Sydney in the period: 15 July - 15 Sept, and the price is no different to a few weeks ago (on the date I'm flying, obviously I have not checked every date).

They only change is a Dreamliner 787 thumbnail picture when selecting flights :)

Make sure you have travel insurance
Scoot and SATS have a habit of losing baggage, especially with Scoot thru and then having a no care no responsibility policy.

Plenty of unhappy travellers on these pages

You're an idiot if you DON'T have travel insurance.

While we're on this topic, I'm assuming most of us would have platinum/signature cards that have "automatic" travel insurance built-in.

I haven't really looked into the finer details myself, but is it good to just go with the CC insurance or would it be worthwhile to actually buy travel insurance on top of that?

        • I have a preexisting genetic condition (blood disorder) so I always get proper travel insurance. The CC travel insurances are ok, but proper policies are generally better. For $50 or so it's well worth it.

        • Honestly it depends on what you need covered and the reputation of your bank's insurance. (I am with NAB, and I have heard that their insurance is not as good as other banks)

I always use travel insurance direct, they have some of the best reviews and seem to be pretty good with payouts (as long as it's covered in your policy obviously) for a 2.5 week holiday to thailand it cost us like $60 each or something, extremely affordable. I always pay $10 or so extra to make it a $0 claim fee so you can claim for even very small things, eg: if you claim on a camera that costs $150 for instance, it won't cost you $100 just to make the claim which would make it not even really worth it.

But yeah, it's always best to shop around, read the terms and conditions of the policy. If you want to hire scooters or do any extreme sports, many insurance policies won't cover you for any injuries caused doing so.

        • @SirFlibbled:
If you do have an incident and need to claim, does that mean you can "double claim"? i.e. claim from the complimentary policy from the credit card and claim from the policy you purchased? has anyone done this before?

        • +1

          @concento: I think that's fraud

        • I'm with NAB and I can't say enough good things about the free insurance that was included with my CC. The free NAB travel insurance reimbursed me the original airfare when Air Australia went bankrupt and left me stranded in Honolulu.

You have to keep in mind that there is a minimum spend before the travel insurance kicks in. For NAB you have to purchase $500 or more of travel costs on the card before you can claim. So if you are flying via budget carriers that don't exceed $500 return then you won't be covered.

          NAB extract: http://www.nab.com.au/personal/credit-cards/manage-your-cred…

"NAB Premium and NAB flybuys Rewards cardholders receive seven complimentary insurances. When you purchase a minimum of $500 of your pre paid transportation costs (including by air, rail, road or watercraft) and/or accommodation and/or organised land tour costs all of which are inclusive of any charges, fees and/or taxes on your NAB Premium or NAB flybuys Rewards Card, you could be covered if your overseas travel is cancelled, or you suffer from illness or become disabled while you're travelling overseas. There's also cover for lost luggage and documents, rental vehicle accidents, and some missed connections.

The insurer is QBE Insurance (Australia) Limited."

        • For Citibank you just need to have purchased your outgoing flight on the card.

        • @concento: No. You need to pick one or the other. Insurance is meant to compensate you for the unforeseeable not to profit from it.

Policies usually have wording to the effect that if you have claimed from another insurer the even is excluded from the policy.

That is a very biased sample. If you replace that search with any airline you are bound to get crazy hits.

      https://www.google.com.au/#q=lost+baggage+YourAirline of Choice

Any more numbers or data behind this assertion ?

It was based on them losing my baggage after paying $80sgd extra for scoot thru
It was based on me spending several weeks in various parts of asia trying to get scoot to even acknowledge emails or return phonecalls
It was based on extensive reading on the internet of others with these problems and finding out it seems common place and the lack of care the same
and it was based on returning to Singapore, speaking to people at scoot who admitted it was a big issue but as none of them are allowed to make decisions (management hidden away and uncontactable) that there was nothing they could do. They did get me into speak to the lost property section and all they could suggest is send emails and make phone calls to the same email and phone number that I had been calling for a couple of months and getting no where with.

Considering I do fly extensive miles on various airlines and I have never had a problem with any other airline losing baggage or returning emails or phonecalls it is obvious to me scoot has some major issues.

Hey I don't deny your experience, just that the search was bound to give out biased results

        • @dealman: Show me a search that wont give biased results.
I am searching for others that have lost baggage and had shit service and surprise surprise, thats what the search brought up.
          Aint google amazing (-;

    • Yes agree. Have got one piece of luggage lost before and a few flights delayed but I'd say Scoot is still a good deal
If you are not in a rush and don't mind the delay too much. They got the luggage back in two days by the way.

  • $169 is roughly $20 per hour of flying time, will be difficult to get much lower, I hope they make some profit with these type of fare, else we will have to pay much more in future if they close down.

    • +2

Only a few seats on each flight will be these cheap fares. The remainder (majority) will be higher priced seats and full fare passengers, not to mention the business class fares. We have nothing to worry about.

  • Damn! If I had waited I would have saved $50 odd for the same flights

  • It doesnt seems to work from Melbourne to Singapore

  • +3

Oh you bastards, fly dates exclude Formula 1. Oh well, not going to miss anything as it'll be the HAM show anyway. :(

  • Extract of seating reviews:- ScootBiz: You can forget about an angled or fully flat bed – that's not what ScootBiz is about. All seats – even those in the back row of ScootBiz with the bulkhead behind – can recline up to 8 inches.
Economy: The seating in the Economy Class cabin is identical to that that exists in the 777 aircraft with a seat pitch of 31 inch and seat recline of 6 inch making it the greatest recline of any low cost carrier operating in the Asia Pacific area.

  • Been keen to try Scoot i/o Air Asia and at these prices Gold Coast to Singapore family trip later this year looking good.

  • When is it least hot and humid in SIN?

    • Always hot and humid all year round!

    • Only two seasons in SG. Hot and dry (mid year) and hot and wet (Dec to Feb)! Always humid.
