  • I gather these are all locked to Telstra?

    • They're pretty easily unlocked :)

      • Oh ok I would hope so…..as Telstra wireless rates are extortionate.

      • how easy to unlock it?

        • Requires some PC knowledge, you practically upload a new firmware to it, or alter it, one of the two…

        • see my post below.

It took me a night to do it completely. But thats because i couldn't follow the instructions (i think people unlocked them on linux). I've written my own instructions for xp, and i'll load them up asap

  • Nice work guys :)

    • Mikinoz, another one you have let slip through!!!

      • Haha yeah :) didnt think that one was worth putting up but always suprises me hehe

  • +1

    excessive broadband rates.

  • OMG $29.95 a month "monthly access fee". The only purpose you would buy these is to unlock them

    EDIT: just ordered one :P

    • Davo , is it usable for another isp ie one that doesnt suck ?

      • i'm going to try and unlock it (google says it can be done). If i don't succeed then i've only lost $10. :P

If you cant find the info online, just pm me and ill send it through.
        Regards Davo

        • awesome let us know

          • @Mikinoz: hey dude, i was able to unlock it. I'm going in today to buy a sim card so i can test it.
As soon as the OCAU wiki page works, i'll post the details there. Otherwise if you're really keen just pm me and i'll send the instructions through. Same applies to everyone here.

            • @Davo1111: ok i FINALLY got it working! very happy. saved myself $100. I'll post the instructions on OCAU when wiki works again. Otherwise pm me and ill send back the information

  • thanks bought 2 USB 7.2mb hsdpa modems for $20 - cheap as.
    Hopefully i can unlock it.

    • Have you checked your Order Status.
My order status is "Unable to process order". :(

  • I'm hoping this will work with Three in my Perth area. Although HT charged freight regardless of if I put down pickup for some reason… Freight cost more than the item :/

  • Just seeing the Telstra logo on all of those made me cringe.

Someone needs to pay me $10 for pain & suffering now.

  • called , none left.

  • Great deal… but do read the specs of the products carefully. Some of them only support 2100Mhz UMTS (384 kbps), not 2100Mhz HSDPA (3.6 Mbps or 7.2 Mbps). They may support 850Mhz HSDPA, but if the device does not support 2100Mhz HSDPA, unlocking it is not so useful (unless Three allows you to roam to Telstra 850Mhz network).

If you cannot unlock it, there is still one way to use it on Telstra without incurring huge monthly fees. However, you will only be able to use the device for emergency or very light browsing. What you do is get a Prepaid Telstra SIM, sign up for a long life credit plan ($30 for 6 months)… but don't use the credit to make any call, instead use $10 credit to purchase the cheapest internet pack each month (this will get you 100M.. which is not enough really). The $10 internet pack lasts 1 month… so $30… you can do this 3 times (3 months) - I think you cannot have $0 credit on the account so actually you will need to recharge before using that $10 on the third Internet pack. You do need to be careful because once you use more than 100M, Telstra will charge you crazy rates for Internet usage (unless you quickly buy another pack).

Can still be quite useful when you are away from home and need to use Internet for a little while.

  • Had placed the order with stock remaining on the site, but my order has disappeared and I just received an email saying too bad no stock :(

Obviously I expected them to go quick anyway though.

    • same happened to me

  • Aww too slow for a bargain once again. Congrats to those who successfully picked these modems up so cheaply, they go for $50++ on eBay
