  • Fatboy backpacks sold out. Damn!

    • Just what I was looking for as well :(

  • +1

Thanks for the post, got a couple of American Tourister Vivolites

    • Watch the weight and warranty on this brand, not great on either compared with most other brands.
I was looking on the weekend and most luggage is 10-15 years or even lifetime warranty, the American Touristers I looked had 2or 3 years. And weight was a lot more (about a kilo to what we were looking at)

      • The 79cm are 3.9kg, same as the Samsonite 79cm. Nothing about warranty on there though. Never had a hardcase bag, are they generally better?

        • the small one we looked at was 1.9kg, American tours were 2.6-2.9 something like that.
We bought a hard case for $70, cabin sized, 55cm and 1.9KG. 15 year warranty too.
First one we have bought , before that are soft cases, I still think soft is better, I dont care how much they advertise the hard ones are strong, if there is a big knock in a corner I think they will get damaged. They do look cool though.
We bought it for our son but hasn't been used yet.

          @PVA:

My large hard case american tourister has made it through a good 10 flights around Thailand and 5 around the US, and they sure as hell put them through the ringer.. it came back covered in scuff marks which you can get off, but absolutely no damage, not even a noticeable bad scratch.

I've been extremely happy with it so far.

        • @Lunawinter:

oh yeh just picked up 2x 79cms

        • @JupiterR: Awesome! they're great :)

      • +1

American Tourister is made by Samsonite. They have a 10 year warranty on the Vivolites- http://www.americantourister.com.au/vivolite-62cm.html?defau…

      • The warranty is at least 10 years on American Tourister (including the vivolite)

        • Just received my Tourister, tag says 3yrs warranty.. hmm conflicting info on website

        • @knackers: Thats really odd, i bought one, not the same one.. but it had 10 years :( and I would have thought it would come with the same warranty claimed on their website, unless it only counts if you bought it from them directly.. doesn't seam right though.

        • @Lunawinter: I gave American Tourister a call… If it was purchased after Nov 2014 it has a 10yr warranty.

        • @knackers: Ah good to hear!

  • Can you get GST back on check=ins?

    • Yes you can. In Sydney, you can claim gst back prior to going through customs as they will sight your luggage to confirm . I did this for bulky items that I wasn't taking on board with me .

    • Yes - as long as total spend at Myer is >$300, and you're not bringing the items back to Australia.

      • +1

And why can't you bring the goods back to Australia? You might want to check your "facts"!

      • +2

Wrong about bringing the items back to Australia. You can bring the items back, but if the value (with other purchases) exceeds your duty free allowance then you can expect to pay.

      • +2

My bad, based this on an experience with a colleague where total value was >$2k
        mathew42 is correct.
        http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4263.asp
Under the heading "I claimed a TRS refund for some goods that I now want to bring back into Australia. What do I need to know?"

  • Not for Melbourne airport, they can do it but they are usually not willing to do so.

    • The bulk item checkin room located just next to the arrival area will sight your checked in GST refund items. I've used it twice, and both times they were willing… it is their job after all.

      • I must be unlucky, I only went to them because they rejected me saying they only do liquids.

  • Not as good as this but David Jones had 40% off nearly all luggage. (and so did nearly all other bag stores) on the weekend.

  • Argh.. couldn't resist..

  • Thanks for the post. Samsonite 79cm Luggage sold out very quickly. :((

    • They still have the red 79cm soft cases! I guess they must be removing them as they sell out, did they have hard cases too?

  • Is 65cm a carry on size?

I like samsonite brand and quality but they don't have this size. Unsure the other brand like Tosca, High Sierra are good quality?

    • +1

      No, it's more like 55cm

    • +1

      56 x 36 x 23 on Qantas/Jetstar but only 48 x 34 x 23 on Virgin Domestic.

  • Excellent. Was looking for one last week!! Got one.

    Great deals!! Selling out quickly!

  • SAMSONITE
Duranxt Upright Case Cabin 50cm Red $85
    http://www.myer.com.au/shop/mystore/w15-wk13-online-travel-g…

    Is that a good deal?

    • $229 reduced to $85 on a Samsonite - I think so.. not a fan of Red cabin case, but now I am :)

  • Many thanks, just snapped up (2) beautiful bags.

  • Any experience with Tosca quality? Would get the cabin sized samsonite but only available in red :(

  • Thank you OP, was waiting for luggage sale for our next trip and here we are.

  • +1

Does any know if I can claim a Tax Refund on checked bags at Adelaide airport? Thanks

  • delivery charge is $65???

    • It is free if over $100

  • +1

Most items seem to be sold out even though they are not marked as sold out.

You can add them to your cart but upon checkout it says.
"Sorry - this item is currently unavailable in the quantity you have selected"

    • Yeah, I'm surprised any are left after 10,000 click throughs

  • Thank you OP, picked up a large American Tourister softspinner, was waiting for EOFY sale to grab a quality suitcase for my trip in July, but better safe than sorry.

  • Would it be likely that the 75cm vivolites be available at that price again anytime before June? Holiday coming up!

    • I stupidly went to a work meeting before buying one and missed out :(

  • +2

Hey guys today ive successfully managed to price match it at David Jones :) Got one today

    • did u price match it with them in store?? I'll give it a go with the Samsonite tomorrow if it still says limited stock available tomorrow morn

      • Yes!

  • sorry for my ignorance, but do airline has limit in size of the baggage? what is the maximum? if the samsonite 79 has a total of 167 cm.

    • Their websites should tell you I would think

  • Many thanks for this post - I put in an order yesterday am, it was despatched that afternoon!

  • More stock available now inc Vivolites. Delivery only though.
