Looking for a new bedroom tv. I'm more concerned about overall quality of the set than anything. Doesn't have to be 1080P but I would like a good picture (how much tv is even broadcast above 720 anyway).
There are really cheap Soniq ones for $250 at JB, but I've heard not the best things about them with a quick google. I'm not really sure what brands are a 'step up' unless you're spending full on Samsung/Sony money.

buy any sub $200 set, even if its 720p
maybe wait until aldis has a sale? cheapest I've seen around here is sub $175
Cheap smaller TVs can sound tinny. I suggest you listen to some TVs in stores .
The Soniq TVs from JB that I've seen have had acceptable picture quality, but poor sound quality.
All the cheap TVs seem to be pretty much the same to me, and many seem to even run the same software (ie same menus etc)
pretty much every LCD TV i've listened to up to Vieras and XBRs whatever have poor sound that is improved by the use of a sub $50 set of 2.1 spks
Do you mind reconditioned?
I have never had a problem with them and you can get a good brand pretty cheap.

Got a Hisense 24" set for b/r… been fine for last 4-5 yrs. Soniq are ok, I would not hesitate with one of those as a cheap set. Makes such as DSE Teac etc I would avoid.
You only want something that is reliable and watchable… there is no brag value in bedroom TV's :-)
Have dropped so much Samsung/sony stuff into the bin I just don't give their stuff a second thought these days.
