Loading a RAM disk. Games, VPC.
I create a RAM disk which acts like a virtual HDD, and use it as a scratch drive for advanced numerical simulations. Since RAM disk is basically a chunk of physical RAM, it is the fastest storage there could be. But all the data will be lost after system restarts/reboots.
They are priceless for running minecraft servers, or even just playing minecraft!
basically ram ar DDR31600 speed has about 12-16GB/s throughput, compare that to an SSD with only 500MB/s and you'll see why it's useful. This sort of software typically saves to an .iso file when it shuts down, so changes aren't lost, and loads the drive on startup.
I use DATARAM ramdisk, free up to 4GB, more than enough to mount my now ageing minecraft world in a ramdisk. Take backups and they're reliable enough, although they do occasionally bug out and crash if you're not on ECC RAM, and you can lose the lot.

That's a different company
does the same thing
I'll take your word for it. Although there could be proprietary features that makes the Gilisoft software perform better?!?
What advantages does this product have compared to the built in Windows ram disk?
I have no idea what you mean by a built in windows ramdisk?
Been working with windows 20+ years.. so that got by me!
Anyone knows what useful things to use this for, I have 8GB of memory in my laptop…
