  • I think I've heard that the wireless ones are free voltage or at least, it looks like it's going to work in Australia, at least from Amazon Q&A (though please do note, I've heard).
I'd probably check with Dyson or Amazon first before purchasing it though.

      I've got a DC44 from Amazon previously and it's universal 110-240v.
Worst case scenario, you will spend extra $30 to buy a wall adaptor from Dyson

      • The worst case scenario is actually you needing to get a voltage converter thingy (if the vacuum cleaner is designed with 110v in mind only, it can get damaged easily from the 220~250V).

Though as I said, I think it's a free voltage one, so yeah.

Also, as V6 is just a rehash of DC59, I think I can safely comment how amazing the vacuum is. :)
It's amazing. I've just cleaned 3 rooms that looked like it was vacuumed (with a vacuum cleaner that I think is half broken) a week ago, it picked up 5 canisters of dirt and dog fur.

        • What sort of dog? Iv got a white lab that loves to shed and am afraid of buying this as it might be under powered or get clogged up.

        • @T1OOO: I have no clue to be honest. It's not my dog. If you want me to give you some clue, he's a very young, husky kind of puppy that doesn't shed that much fur (well as far as I can see, at least I can pet him and play with him without getting myself covered in fur, unlike a siamese cat). His hair is around 5cm? (Not good with rough length judgments). Though I can say this, the fur on the carpet were not visible when I started vacuuming.

My gf says that labs have shorter hair than he does, then again, she's even worse than me in length estimation, so take it in with a pinch of salt.

I think I should also say that I used the small motorhead on DC59 Animal, no turbo mode.

        • @T1OOO: You have a lab! Thanks heavens you dont have a Golden Retriever.

        • @dy4me:

apparently it says the shed "average" id hate to see a dog with alot of sheding,…….

        • @T1OOO: I think if you are going to use it for a large area, with a dog, get something that's not cordless. I think you'd make multiple trips to the bin if you have to vacuum more than just one room with a dog with DC59 (or V6).

a replacement charger isnt going to do much when you fire 240 volts down a 110v device

end result will be your vacuum wont turn on anymore at best. burn the house down at worst.

having to purchase a step down converter to use a portable vacuum cleaner is a waste of time and money

        • a replacement charger isnt going to do much when you fire 240 volts down a 110v device

Of course you must read the wording on the adaptor before you plug it into the power!
If the adaptor is 110v only then you will need a 240v replacement one from Dyson.
And it's cordless models only. I have no idea about the corded one.

        • +2

@nbn: I think he's talking about the vacuum cleaner itself, you can easily damage your appliance by plugging it into the wrong voltage. This is even if you plug it in with the simple adapter that just changes the head. Some vacuum cleaners actually have a voltage set for it, i.e. some of them are designed to work with only 110v, meaning you will not want to use it in Australia without a step down converter. If the vacuum cleaner is not built as free voltage, then you can easily damage your vacuum by trying to use it in Australia (220~250V). Most things that we carry around during the travel are usually free voltage, meaning you only need the adapter for them, i.e. laptops and stuff. Vacuum cleaners usually are not free voltage, since nobody travels around with it.

That being said, I think Dyson cordless (lol, I said wireless before) ones are free voltage devices. Though with that much spending going, I'd check with Amazon or Dyson first.

        • @AznMitch:
He was saying "portable vacuum" and "replacement charger" so he was talking the cordless model. And hence my reply.
The vacuum cleaner itself does not matter at all (I'm only saying cordless model here). All Dyson cordless take 26v DC input to charge the battery. That's what the wall adaptor for.

I've modified the post to link to V6 cordless only. I don't think the corded ones would take 240v.

  • International warranty?

  • Thanks OP. Bought the V6 Absolute. Can't resist the 40% off rrp.

  • Probably not worth upgrading from a DC59 Animal?

    • Except for the direct drive head(whatever that is), No. Its just the DC59 renamed

      • Yeah whats the deal with that, it's very confusing trying to find out which models are actually new

    • Two cleaner heads are better than one.

  • -2

    does it ship to australia?

    • Yep! ~$40 Shipping.

    • Prices in the post already included shipping cost.

  • Thanks OP,

    Just bought.

  • Damn if I didnt buy a DC59 Animal 3 months ago I would of snapped up one of these.

    • How does this compare to the DC59?

      • +1

Exactly the same. The V6 is the DC59 renamed with less attachments in it(Base model). But although in the US the new V6 range is cheaper than the old DC59 in Australia(As Expected) the price of the V6 range is more than the DC59

i picked up the DC59 Animal last week during the eBay sale from Good Guys… $429. So specials in Aus can still be cheaper than amazon, and you get full warranty (is dyson int. warranty?)

        • @konazz: True, I've seen DC59 Animal going at $324.50 from one of the promotions that they were running, from Mouths of Mum, I think?

        • @AznMitch: I got one of those.. and returned it.

The bowl is too small and fills up quickly. Have to empty it 3 times just to do my living room, and emptying a bagless vacuum is not fun. Dust goes everywhere and requires further cleaning of the bowl.

Also, full charge is not enough to clean my car.

        • @lostn: I personally found it to be adequate for my usage. I would say you can lazily vacuum around 3 rooms with one charge (I vacuumed 2 small lounge and a small room with one charge, it lasted 20 minutes, so I think you'd see how lazy I was doing that). I'd say it's not exactly for any big house.

Also in terms of the small vacuum bag, I know that it's disgusting, but with the dog, the dog hair clumps up so most of the dust becomes a giant hair/dust ball. In terms of car, yeah, I guess if you want to do a thorough cleaning, you'd probably wouldn't be able to finish it within 20 minutes (especially with the power mode thingy). At least that's from my experience. I think it's really good for those people who live alone or those people who needs a vacuum for a small area.

        • @AznMitch:

The worst part is dust sticks to the bowl, and you have to use your hands to get it out. Opening the lid does not make it fall out because it clumps together. I try to contain the fine dust from going everywhere by emptying it inside a plastic bag, but that's hard too because you need space for the lid to open out. It has to be a deep bag which isn't common.

If I buy another vacuum one day it won't be bagless. I learned the hard way that bagless isn't all it's cracked up to be.

One final thing to be aware of is that the filter is loose. It stays in place when it's on, but when it's not, it comes off very easily. If you tilt it too much it will fall out.

I should ask, how many times did you have to empty the bowl during your 20 minutes?

        • @lostn: 5 times, though I think I have mentioned why it was so in the previous comment. I don't think the house was properly vacuumed before I came over, because the vacuum cleaner that the house owners have is half broken and they have a dog with lots of hair (He's very fluffy, though he doesn't shed that much hair as far as I am concerned). That being said, when I use it for personal usage, so at my own place, it's more of I do it whenever I can and usually it lasts less than 10 minutes and it fills up once.

I don't know, I personally like bagless because there is no running cost attached to the vacuum other than the electricity fee. I usually empty the bowl with the lid taken off from the garbage can (it's those cheap plastic ones), so I think in my case, it's not that bad.

Also, yes, I dropped the filter several times already because of that. I personally think it was a stupid design flaw that they could've easily fixed by making it screw and lock in.

I think for my purpose, it is great, that being said, all your criticisms are more than valid imo.

        • @AznMitch: Great suction is a good thing. It just doesn't go hand in hand with small dust bowl.

When you empty it straight into the bin, doesn't it cause fine dust to go everywhere, including onto your clothes and in your nose?

Bagged just feels more hygienic and less messy, despite having running costs.

The Miele rep told me a pack of 4 bags costs $19 and each one lasts 6 months. That's what they said, don't quote me.

Of course, Miele don't make stick vacuums, so my criticism was with stick vacuums in general, not dyson.

        • @lostn: I completely agree with you.

Though, in terms of the dust going everywhere, I think I've found a method that does make it to be more hygenic (Open the bin up by removing the lid and actually remove the bowl inside the bin (not completely, but so that the end of the bowl is in the bin), it makes those clumped up chunks to fall down and most of the fine dust do fall into the bin).

Besides, I vacuum my room fairly frequently, so the concern for me on that area is far less; I rarely fill the bowl.

So I do see where you are coming from, in this bagless vs bagged vacuum comparison, but both sides have advantages and disadvantages.

I like this vacuum for being compact and easy to operate + no running cost, though what you've said is completely valid.
I'd probably go for a Miele for family uses and such, but for someone like me, this does what I want it to do fine.

  • Don't think you would need this as the dc59 animal is so strong it literally sucks everything, any stronger your gonna take out the timber boards or carpet.

But in difference wise it's juts the head is bigger not stronger.

  • Hmm I can't get it to ship to Australia, anyone else have this problem?

Whoops never mind, got it now

    • I'm having the same problem - how did you fix it?

  • it's still early days but the ratings don't look that great.

    Bought one thanks!

also managed to save a further $10USD via this promotion
    http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=gc_apr5010_huc?ie=UTF8&node=1107…

The giftcard and promo credit of $10 came instantly so I purchased the vacuum right after receiving the giftcard codes.

    • +1

Thanks. Wish I'd known about this last week when I was shopping!

    • Good find, so bad I ordered few hrs ago…lol

      • You can cancel it at "Your orders" page, unless it is actually shipped.

To add to what nbn said, talk to the Amazon customer service. I've heard that until it arrives at your place, they usually refund the differences between the discounted price and what you've paid. I know that this is slightly different case, though talk to them at least, they are really nice people.

Also, the exclusive promo credit for gift cards are usually targeted, so you might've not been entitled for anyways, so don't beat yourself down too hard.

        • Thanks mate, yep, $10 diff is alright, just hope doing warranty via Amazon won't be an issue if anything happens.

    • are you a prime member?

    • How many times can you get that $10 promo credit?

  • any know how warranty works with getting it from Amazon?

  • I dunno about this being a bargain. Vacuums are not like phones and laptops, it is mechanical and is comprised of many moving parts. How would you claim warranty? My DC59 motor head broke 6 months after purchase. It was selling for about $460 at the time but I opted to pay a bit more and buy it at costco for $530. I get 5 years warranty at Costco. Took the vacuum back and they gave me a refund straight away. Found out the DC59 was on special and got the same vacuum for less. Worry free for 5 years.

    • Different people put different values to warranties. :)

      • You are right, people have varying appetite for risk.

        • +1

Yeah, I personally wouldn't buy from overseas, I almost abhor fighting and sending multiple emails to people to get things done. That being said, if it is significantly cheaper than what's avaiable in Australia, I think it's a bargain for others.

        • @AznMitch: You would still have to fight if you buy online even locally, unless it's from a big place like Harvey Norman or TGG.

        • @lostn: Yeah, but it's typically worse with overseas sellers (That said, I heard Amazon is far better than most of the overseas retailers). Even shipping is a big hassle with overseas retailers (especially if it has batteries in them).

        • @AznMitch: Yeah I never understood that. The batteries weren't a problem when it was being sent to you.. why should they be a problem on the way back?

        • @lostn: My guess is that they trust companies like Amazon to do proper packaging but they cannot trust us to do the same packaging for the lithium batteries. Though they do have a valid ground for not allowing batteries to be sent overseas without proper packaging (I've heard stories of cargo flights crashing because of the fire caused by lithium batteries.)

  • Thanks OP ! got V6 using my $300 Amazon balance :-)

  • if you have pictures of the DC59, you'll find the direct V6 replacements have the same coloured extension tube - which in turn matches the colour inside the barrel. ie the DC59/V6 Animal is purple*.

    • By purple, I mean the male's version of the colour, whatever that may be.
  • Four hundred dollars for a dustbuster?! :P

I own the Dyson Animal and the battery life is truly appalling. It literally feels like fifteen minutes before it's dead and needing another damn charge.

Hell, Ryobi has battery powered lawn mowers pulling 60 minutes from a single charge.

Fifteen (or even the stated 26) minutes is unacceptable in my books.

Depends on the user and their environment I guess. For a small townhouse or unit, this could be perfect as it will never take longer than 20 minutes to finish the job. Obviously for a larger house or similar it may not be as useful unless it's only for a specified area. Each to their own :)

      • Very true, I did not consider that. Though, even in that instance a charge time of 3.5 hours, use time 26 minutes is still laughable.

        • Works great for hard floors and car. Works great on carpet, but the canister is way to small to do carpet.

      • I'm moving into a 2 bedroom townhouse next month, mostly hard wood floors with only carpet in the bedrooms. I'm thinking the V6 Fluffy would be perfect, or absolute for the additional attachments.

      • What's annoying is when you finish 80% of the floor when the juice runs out. I wish it was possible to vacuum while charging.

  • +2

They are on special at David Jones the absolute can be had for $719

    http://shop.davidjones.com.au/djs/en/davidjones/dyson-v6-abs…

  • Mind you, despite my previous comments, Dyson isn't all doom and gloom. I also own their DC39 Multi-Floor barrel vac and it is indeed a far superior product to the Animal.

  • Is this still available? I added the V6 ($usd 462) in the cart but I can't make it to ship to aus.

    • You have to pick the one 'sold by Amazon.com '. On the right hand side of the item description page, look at 'Other Sellers on Amazon'. Find the one sold by Amazon.com.

  • Pretty impressed that Amazon shipped my order with DHL. Paid for standard

  • Can anyone confirm if a Dyson purchased from Amazon will work here?

    • Why wont it? input voltage of charger? If so Just buy a local charger for $30

      • Thanks. I was worried about the charger and if I would need a step down transformer to get the voltage from 240v to 110v.
I confirmed with Dyson.com.au that "the charger works on both voltages" however they stated that there might be an "issue is that the motorhead contains US electrical parts, not Australian, so if you had any problems it would not be able to be repaired outside of US." Apparently the moment the product leaves the country of origin (the US in this case) the warranty is automatically voided.

        • Warranty is a completely different issue. If it does break down though, you can always talk to Amazon and see if they can help you out.

  • Can confirm that the charger is 110v to 240v

    • you already have yours? mine's not even shipped yet

      • Yup. Shipped with DHL

        • my estimated arrival is mid may.. lol I think they don't have stock.

Do you remember what time you bought?

        • @googoogaga: which unit did you buy? I bought the animal i think

        • @dy4me:

Ah ok, I bought the absolute.

At the time it said 4-6week wait

  • mines on its way!
