Faulty Laptop@ Shopping Express

I bought HP Laptop during this promotion https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/176187 however it turned out to be faulty.

I sent few emails to Shopping Express but never got any response. As soon as I lodged Paypal dispute, I received response within one day and I was asked to speak with HP to get case number to support Dead on Arrival product. I eventually got hold of hp after few days and got the required reference number. II have sent them half a dozen messages to send me return label however there is no response. I checked Paypal dispute today however it has already close automatically after 20 days. The paypal payment was taken from my bank account so I am not sure about chargeback option.

Is there something I could do to fix this issue?

I am also wondering that If I return the faulty laptop I will never receive the replacement as they never respond.

  • What's the fault?

    • It is freezing time and again. If I open Chrome, it takes ages to load pages and also take ages to switch between applications.

      • Maybe run some diagnostics or try reloading

        • HP support staff has diagnosed it and they advised that is Dead on Arrival product.

        • @Sshanaz: okay the contact accc if you don't get a result

@Mikinoz: What ACCC is going to do here?

I thought my last bet would be Fair Trading.

      • One sure way to check if it's the unit or Windows is to boot up a live Linux USB.

Download this program & install it:

        http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

Then, plug in the drive you want to use (I like 8GB or better). It WILL wipe the drive. Run unetbootin & choose Linux Mint 17. It will install to your USB drive & next boot, you'll be able to use it.

If it's Win 8/8.1, enter BIOS at power-on, disable secure boot/enable CSM/legacy. Save & exit, then enter BIOS again & you'll be able to choose to boot from USB (USB must be inserted before power-on if you're booting from it, in order for it to show as an option).

Rep, OzBargainers very much appreciate the ShoppingExpress deals posted on the site.

However, there have been an increasing number of comments in both deal threads and by way of forum posts that point to customers having great difficulty establishing satisfactory communication with ShoppingExpress when orders have gone astray or when products have proven to be faulty.

ShoppingExpress is risking a great deal of customer goodwill if those lines of communication are not made more reliable.

  • have you tried a reformat or reinstall of the os

sometimes a clean wipe gets rid of old errors if the problem is not completely and purely hardware

hell sometimes even hardware magically fixes itself with a clean and fresh wipe and reinstall

also if you want to be even more safe and probably faster for you if you do not have an os install disc or usb on hand near you

download the latest malware bytes or super anti spyware and avast or avg and do a quick run scan of that

it might pick up a few nasty still left malware/virus/adware/spyware/etcware buggies that maybe wasn't done or picked up by ShoppingExpress Quality Inspection Staff or etc..

    haha lol

    • The product is supposed to be new and unused. Either way, I would want to send it back if it was used by someone else.

      • Ah I see my mistake, my bad. Yeah better get to get that checked out and sent back if it has shown any signs of something not what you bargained or bought it for. Sorry I didn't see that you said earlier above that it was supposed to be new and unused haha. My apologies.. lol

      • Nothing in the original post hinted you thought it was previously used?

What I suggested will tell you, for sure, if there's a hardware fault. Warranty is for hardware, not Windows stuffing up.

HP techs have been wrong before. I've reset systems for clients who had the same response as you give here from HP.

In my mind, I want a working computer, 1st & foremost. I don't want to ship/return/etc if the issue turns out to be software/Windows.

What I suggested will tell you, very quickly, what's happening. At that point, you restore to factory software or you say it's toast & continue your return venture.

I'm trying to save you grief & time.

        Cheers

  • Typical Shopping Express, ignore people until it gets posted somewhere where it might hurt business.

    • Like a few of the online Chinastores, that is the growing impression. Pity.

You should have linked the thread you just started about your SE/SSD experience
