=)
dam just got one off free from $10 ebay voucher
Why?
Wow… One of those elusive products that rarely goes on sale :)
Just wanna share with you guys 25g pawpaw at Aldi is $2. i've been using for last one year and am happy with that
aldi one is not Lucas
Lucas' is just petroleum jelly anyway.
It. Just. Isn't.
As per their website : Base - Pharmaceutical Grade Petroleum Jelly and Wax
http://www.lucaspapaw.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&vi…
If that bothers people there are a few pawpaw ointment alternatives that don't contain petroleum products such as http://healthycare.com.au/product/paw-paw-balm/
@Fsources1: Oh don't get me wrong I don't doubt there is some in there, its a base for lots of things! And thanks for citing your source!
I guess I can only speak from experience, and I'd be interested to know if there are really any pros/cons vs an oil based balm, other than skin sensitivities? I just have hyper sensitive skin, and have found the Lucas brand is the only one that doesn't give me hives. YMMV, of course.
If you read the web site and the label on the tube it states that the paw paw is 3.9%. The rest is petroleum jelly (aka Vaseline).
I have always found it to be an effective product but I really wonder how much of that effect is Paw Paw (at 3.9%) and how much is petroleum jelly…
@seb: I haven't used Lucas "Papaw" in years, it's full of petroleum and has very little pawpaw. The best version was discontinued couple of years back but many others have entered the market since. Have a look at this site to get a slightly better indication of what you are slathering on your lips (and ultimately ingesting):
http://naturalnewagemum.com/is-your-pawpaw-ointment-toxic/
@jackary: Oh my LEL. I would start paying more attention to whatever cosmetic products you use. Hint: most of them are petroleum product based.
@sparkles: It should be noted that there is zero evidence for petroleum based cosmetic products being harmful. Note the phrase "full of petroleum" lol as if this is referring to something harmful.
And pretty much zero evidence for a lot of "new age" products "benefits" also.
@Diji1: Ultimately you are paying for the active ingredient. If what you use is irrelevant as long as it's not "harmful" you may as well buy a tub of homebrand vaseline from the baby aisle. What you put on your mouth (and possibly "eat") perhaps should be different to what you smear other places anyway. It's worth thinking about, and going for the least potentially toxic route.
@sparkles:
totally agree!
@seb:
Vasoline is a good sealant. which is why it's good on cuts & sores as it stop re-infection whilst the body repairs the skin.
It's also very good for nappy rash (which is caused by urine on ths kin, so it's sealant properties stop the urine coming into contact witht eh skin. It's a lot more effective then zinc based products such as Sudocrem. (we use soberlne & vaso combo & nappy rash just doesn't happen).
@Diji1: https://indielee.com/blog/beauty/2014/09/is-pretroleum-jelly…
according to it, could be carcinogenic
While petroleum jelly may be safe in its pure form, purity remains a problem, and the impurities often found in petroleum jelly, such as poly aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), have been linked to cancer.
Unlike in the European Union, there are no refinement requirements in the United States, and so U.S. manufacturers are not legally obligated to remove the PAHs and other contaminants from their petroleum jelly.
Anywhere we can get it at retail? Don't really like ordering online.
Suvana Paw Paw & Honey Certified Organic Lip Balm?
@Diji1: And I'd start paying attention to my comment as well, because I prefaced what I said with "it's in lots of things" - for gods sake, give me a break.
@sparkles: Please just stop. We get it, potential carcinogenic. I bet you're the kinda guy that bitches and moans about additives and sweeteners, and then fills his gullet with coke and chips. Nearly everything you use in this day in age is bound to kill you depending on who you ask, you've added your 2c so move on.
In all this time you've spent arguing, 122 people have disagreed with you by giving this deal an upvote. Sums it up. Enjoy your Vaso, while the rest of us enjoy our nice ointment.
How about you stop commenting before you get you facts straight?
@Aids: Please do direct me to what I got wrong, because between the harping on about Lucas ointment containing petroleum, and references to "newagemum.com" and "indielee.com", I've clearly missed my factual error(s). Thanks.
@jackary: How about you try again with your offensive comments and telling others what they can and can't discuss. Oh, and in relation to your "factual errors" and prejudgement, I'm actually female, and definitely not a "guy filling his gullet with coke and chips". You enjoy your vaso "ointment" mate, sounds like you need it, jackass, whoops sorry…jackary.
@neonlight: Can't say I've seen that one anywhere. I bought a "lifetime supply" of the Simmons Pawpaw Salve when it was discontinued so haven't actively been looking at these products in stores.
@sparkles: Yeah you know what, I do like Lucas brand so I will enjoy it, thankyou.
For what its worth, no prejudgement at all. Change my words to "I bet you're the kinda lady". Being a woman has absolutely no bearing on what I said, nor do I care that you are female. The fact is every alternative product here has some kind of oil base, is that really any better? What about the 10 other chemical ingredients? This was actually my original question many posts ago, if you cared to read it.
Seeing as you have nothing to add, and you've followed up your whinge about getting personal with an entirely pathetic little insult of your own, I ask you again: Please just stop.
Aldi one is the same formulation (39mg/g).
Still buy Lucas' though as it takes me months to go through a tube.
Aldi is papaya fruit powder 39mg/g whereas Lucas' is 39mg/g fresh fermented fruit. I don't know if it actually makes any difference to how it works but they're not exactly the same. Personally I prefer the natralus Natural pawpaw ointment from Woolies at 83mg/g fresh fermented fruit and no petrochemicals , though I couldn't go past picking up some Lucus' on special.
Thanks OP! Had my wisdom teeth out last week so my lips/mouth look like garbage. This should work nicely. Cheers! :)
Any thoughts on this vs Vaseline? Or different product?
It's basically the same thing.
Lucas' Papaw ointment is essentially petroleum jelly with a small (3.9℅) amount of papaw added.
What I am surprised is that Lucas doesn't list petroleum jelly as one of the main ingredients on the packaging whereas most other brands do. I remember being quite surprised to find out that it contained petroleum. I assume there are many other consumers out there who think it just fermented fruit in the tube
Why does that surprise you given your reaction to that phrase. Also where are these other brands that do it?

Aldi $1.50 different brand same shit.
totally agree, but last time i checked it was $2
The ladies will LOVE this one…
Funny, I actually thought that this stuff was pretty much exclusively used for ball rash..
At the risk of opening Pandora's Box (smirk), what do 'the ladies' use this stuff for (smirk, again) ?
Everything, my 2 year old started using her mum's whenever she could get her hand on it so I assume it is woman's instinct to have one.
Well maybe it's the Male contraception properties?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papaya#Preliminary_research
wait a minute, why would the ladies in particular like this more ?
Because most of them use it.
for some stupid reason I have an urge to buy it, yet have no idea what it is for
Awesome. Sometimes I get really terrible dry, red patches on my face and these make them disappear. They also help for mosquito bites, burns, etc. I would advise against using it as a lip balm though, because it's VERY glossy and kind of makes you look like you've made out with a jello monster.
This is the ONLY thing that keeps my eczema under control. All sold out at Gungahlin Coles though :( :(
Get a few rainchecks from different staff members.
You can buy 6 with each raincheck, which last 30 days from issue.
Yup! After fruitlessly going to 3 stores and effectively wasting the discount, I gave up. Rainchecks are great!
Call them up and ask if they have it instead of physically driving around. It's much easier.
Try the quieter / more out of the way stores.
@happychappy1: Ah I'm not all that worried about the hassle, just having a chuckle about the lengths we go to save a measly dollar or two, but that's OzBargain :p
And I did that! This is my usual tactic as there is a "dive" store of sorts near my place, but even they were fresh out by lunchtime Wednesday! All is well, I have more rainchecks than I'll ever need now!
@jackary: Try going next Tuesday to get rainchecks if they don't have any. That way those rainchecks will last a little longer :)
@happychappy1:
Ahh dammit - I didn't think to ask for a raincheck… I even used to work for Coles during my high school days!
All sold out. On a boat to China already.
No offense to these Chinese can we someone stop them buying everything. Can't even get baby formula anymore because all sold out.
Which baby formula are you after? Each time when I go shopping at WWS and Coles, the baby formula always got enough stock over there.
Some of the karicare range they buy up. Aparantly they have to be rationed out the retailers due to the shortage.
Why not try S26 and Bellamy's? Those are much better than Karicare. Yes those oversea buyers like to buy Karicare and milk powders. Because Kaircare is well-known and always discounted in the supermarket.
@ezhang6767: Sadly the chinese issue will go on and on with no resolution for ages.
To resolve the issue, the chinese government will need to change regulations and closely regulate their supply which they don't do.
All the rich people in China buy imported milk powder (It costs around AU$100 per can), the cheap people use the domestic ones and often kids develop issues due to the poor regulation.
According to doctors that I know of, pretty much all formulas are the same, there maybe a slight 1% better but the ones who keep advocating a brand is most likely getting a incentive out of it.
Wow $100 a can. No wonder they buy it like no tomorrow. Someone making a killing.
@tc4101: LoL, that's not true. As far as I know, for the milk powder, they have to pay around $30 per bag(1kg). Three times than in Australia. Not the rich people, but the middle class who care their health more than the price. I'm proud for the products that Australia made. People live here never know how lucky they are.
I am Chinese and from China…
I feel ashamed…. someone must stop this buying…
or the Chinese govt better fix up their regulations.
Seriously, all sold out.
You don't need to be shame. The Chinese govt may need to be shame, not the people. Everyone has the right to chase better life. I never heard a Country will get worse throught this way. You can get raincheck for that. That's the only thing may influence you. A lot of jobs have been created and a lot of GST the Govt. had got. That's nearly win-win.
Is it sold out?
I got one and I really like and I should get another before it goes back up to full price.
yes it is sold out. You'd be lucky if you found one
If it is on the catalog you can get a raincheck for upto 6 of them i think, then purchase them for the same price when they get more stock in.
I have a friend who suffers occasionally from itchy balls. Is this stuff any good for that?
If he's itchy from sweat build up, he should powder them.
Coles West Ryde refused to rain check this item today (Tuesday).. So I guess their rain check policy excludes sim cards and papaw ointments.
Just so you know. It's Lucas' "Papaw" ointment. http://www.lucaspapaw.com.au
