Tips on Super Investment Options

Recently I switched my super investment into:

CFS Wholesale Geared Shared Fund - 50%
Platinum International Fund - 50%

They have been going really well but I was thinking of changing them to protect the gains. I will see my financial planner but wondering if anyone has a particular website that publishes recommendations for choosing funds.

Thanks

  • How old are you?

You said you recently switched and now you want to protect your gains? How old are you ?

  • I'm still young… in my 30s. :) I'm a long way from understanding investing in the stockmarket, so just trying to find resources that cut through the noise and give simple guidance. That way, I can compare the advice my financial planner gives.

    • Why are you looking at protecting your gains when you are so young, protecting your gains is something you should consider when you are near retirement. If you are looking at investing in managed funds only you don't need an adviser, just have a read, if you have an adviser he will be charging you commission every year on those managed funds. Then the fund will be charging you a fee on top of that.

  • These are two separate funds and they charge you annual fees/commission separately right?

You are better off consolidating everything in a single fund to reduce fees.

    • OP is probably using colonial first state, and if its anything like the ones I'm in, I don't think you pay overhead fees like that, its more a percentage of money put into the fund once off.

  • Basically if you were around 50+ years old you would want to move most of it to something more stable, even so much as cash savings or whatever its called, as you would be needing it all in a few years. Less returns, but with less risk.

Becuase you are much younger it is better to go with the higher returns option, which has more risk, but in the long run, has a much better return. and becuase you are looking at 25+ years until you can access the money, I would keep it in what you have. I'm not an financial adviser though so disclaimer etc. See your financial planner first, as it looks like you will. I have some of mine in a similar fund, wholesale global geared, and I'm in my 20s.
