Good deal, shows shipping takes 2-3 weeks though

    Delivery:
Estimated between Wed. 15 Apr. and Wed. 22 Apr.

    • Yeah, might be because they import from their warehouse in Hong Kong. I wonder if it's worth getting from Kogan instead of directly from an Australian retailer.

      • +2

They'll probably give you the Uk version.

        • Would have to be, otherwise it wouldn't play any AU games (HK 3DSes are NA region, IIRC).

        • I think he meant opposed to an Australian one.

      Delivery:
On or before Mon. 06 Apr. to 3053
Estimated by eBay FAST 'N FREE

Where did you see 15 Apr?

      • You're right, eBay updated the estimated delivery time when I've logged in with details of delivery to Melbourne CBD.

  • Anyone with an experience of buying the new DS or old DS variations from Kogan? Is it worth it? Any issues in playing games bought in Australia or from Nintendo's online store?

    • +2

i'd rather buy it from the shops.

      • +1

Yeah I thought so too. Sigh such a shame I missed your Target post on the DS XL

    • Not worth the risk. It's been cheaper with aus stock a few times anyway.

    • You'd be better off getting one from a local shop when there's an offer with a bundled game that you like. Consider that most good games cost over $50, $250 for a bundle is equivalent to <$200 on the console but you get local warranty.

  • sigh …. we got a new one from a local store for 249$ the good thing is they added a free pre-owned game worth 50$

    • +1

Should have gotten a limited edition for that price. It has also gone down to 183 during targets ebay sale. Also even at launch, one could easily price match target for 229.

      Which game was it?

      • +1

My local idiot Target employees at launch had the XL and normal sized one both for 197. I used a similar 20% off thing then, $157.60. Not a bad deal.

          The new 3dsxl? Nice!

        • +1

@leonheart1: Yeah, about 3 days later they fixed it, they wrote the XL on there by mistake, they actually had a picture of the normal sized one on their little ad they put up, but they wrote XL by mistake and I called them on it. Hooray for Dylan.

To anyone considering this: I would NOT…
Nintendo 3ds consoles have a high failure rate. If you buy from a store you can just swap it without fuss.
Buttons being sticky are the main potential issue. My start button was sticky on the 3ds xl but I didn't return it because couldn't be bothered, but I probably should have, and then I got new3dsxl majoras mask that had 2 buttons that were unusable, got a replacement which doesn't have button problems but I lost the good no-click smooth hinge I had in the first one.

They have horrible quality control at nintendo nowadays :( . It's sad.

They also seem to mix and match IPS and TN panels, and click and non-click hinges.. It's sort of ridiculous. So due to all this you may like to save yourself the headache and buy from a store where it might be easier to exchange and return.

Source to verify "Nintendo 3ds consoles have a high failure rate"? Bold claim without something to back it up.

      • It's not like nintendo would release that information to the public :P. But from reading about the experiences, and my own experiences, it's just what I have gathered.

The high failure rate comes from nintendo's inability to provide a reliable build quality. Those who have owned or used lots of 3ds systems know that each 3ds is a unique snowflake. Different levels of hinge wobble, different hinge smoothness, different buttons (some are clicky, some are mushy, some are in between).

Here's a recent reddit thread about how they randomly use a different type of display panel http://www.reddit.com/r/3DS/comments/2zo0md/the_difference_b…

        Here's a little about the hinge. http://www.reddit.com/r/3DS/comments/2xgfly/new_3ds_hinge_no…

So I'm just saying, that is how nintendo do things. Neither click or non-click hinge is defective, but build quality varies wildly, and thus is more prone to defective units.

        • I bought a 3DS XL (Yoshi version) and it had a dead pixel after about 1 week. Checked the warranty and dead pixels aren't covered. Other than that I've had it for about 1 year now, playing semi regularly and it's been fine.

I think I can vouch for the colour differences between the top and the bottom panel in some 3DS XLs. The touch screen has yellow tint when the top screen doesn't with mine.

    • +1

i went through 2 faulty n3ds' at launch before getting a working unit.

both were the smaller model and had the same problem of flickering top and bottom screens. had nothing to do with brightness settings, auto brightness/whatever.

ended up switching to a n3ds xl to get one that worked.

    • I have had about 20 different nintendo consoles in 25 years and never has one failed. Take care of your things and they will be fine. I have had ps3 and 360 fail multiple times for no fault of my own but have heard no trouble and had no trouble with the wii u, xbox one or ps4

    • +1

I had an original 3DS for two years before I upgraded to the new one. Used it for a few hundred hours without a hitch - looked like new when I sold it on. My current new 3DS has about a hundred hours of use and also still looks new. No clickyness, no stuck buttons etc. This is actually the first I've ever heard of this so-called problem.

  • +3

I have owned 5 3ds covering all models. Never once had an issue? Also the IPS is only for new nintendo 3ds XL there is no mix and matching.

    • +2

Same here, I'm at 5 also and still no issues.. I just keep upgrading to new model or special edition and selling old ones to friends, who have not had any issues at all either.

  • Any region protection on this one? And any flashcards that will work with it?

    • No to both.

      • …if neonlight is referring to region locking then it does exist. Australian consoles/games work with European consoles/games and are not compatible with their North American counterparts.

Kogan would most likely be selling the EU version to ensure compatibility with local games.

    • Region locked, but flashcards do work and you can play any rom from any reason with the new 3DS now.

      • Cool. Can you recommend some flash cards and where to buy?

        • Google gateway3ds and you'll find all you need

    • DSTWO works, and Depending on shipment, so would gateway 3ds(9.2or Less) (which could also bypass region locks)

  • Any new 3ds promotion?

  • My only experience with Kogan was my Nexus 5 phone. It took about a week to get out of their base thing, but when it made it to Australia (it had tracking and all that, so I followed it), it took about 6 hours to get from their base to my door. So hopefully that's helpful to someone.

  • Didn't Target have it cheaper?

    • Yes it DID.

  • no more stock
