    What's the catch?

    • +3

It's return shipping, not shipping to you so you'd only get refunded if you're the one sending something back.

      • +1

Yep got that part. Seems like a pretty good arrangement

        • submit refund form within 14 days of shipping, including a receipt showing return shipping cost
        • has to be regular mail/shipping option
        • 1 transaction can include multiple items
        • if all goes well it'll be refunded to your paypal account within 11 days max
        • Where can I find the refund form? Ive already asked the seller for return.

For anyone interested in such trivia / due-process etc., please note that this 'announcement'/policy was initially posted on this site by the user "quop", in the forums section, days ago:

Warning, the timing on this is hilarious as I was just asked by paypal to return a banggood torch which claimed it was 3600 lumens. When compared to the 1600 lumen torch I previously bought for 1/3 the price it was exactly the same emitter so it was a false advertising thing. Anyway I complained raised a dispute.PayPal were making me send a $20 torch back for $25 shipping inside 10 days or the claim will elapse, even when banggoods policy says they don't require returns for items under $70.

I obviously complained however, and this is where the warning comes in, if you fill in the contact page all it does is send you an automated email you have to respond to. All the detail you write, in my case half a dozen paragraphs, is dumped. I assumed they were still reading my web page email response and the 10 days elapsed and I heard nothing, the claim was closed and now I'm stuck with a crap torch and having to do a credit card charge back. I explained what happened with their email response web page but they just stuck to their processes and policy, no common sense came into it.

What really anoys me is if they had told me they will pay the shipping I would have happily sent it back and charged them $5 more than the torch was worth.

I noticed the new convoluted process on ebay if you receive the wrong goods. I just talked to the seller and they refunded and I purchased again.

        • Correct me if I am wrong - but was that Seller the same "Banggood" as Gusper had used?

Perhaps you had a helpful seller - Banggood ask for photos of packaging, a movie of the fault to be downloaded, etc, etc, and really don't seem to read your complaints at all… that was my experience. And I have purchased from them again, sheesh, I didn't learn…!

        • It wasnt BG. I have purchased plenty from BG never had an issue.@airborn:

      • What was the emitter?

        • XM-l t6, my understanding is these Max out at 1200 lumens.

      • +2

I too have been stung by the bang good fake output of their torches. They should be renamed Bang bad.

      • This. Please don't expect common sense to come on Paypal's behalf. They stick to their guns as far as "policy" goes and will ignore anything and everything else. Strongly recommend reading their T&Cs before dealing with them. Have had to take them to the FOS a couple of times simply because they will ignore common sense until this is done.

Having said that, This seems to be a good deal. Thanks OP for posting.

        • What is FOS? Is that the credit card charge back.

EPIC!! perfect timing.. Thanks so much OP

unfortunately some people lie on ebay. and I've had to send back something.
Usually the "Buyer" bears the return costs, so this is perfect.

    Thanks so much !!

    • Yeah I have to send back a misleadingly described item to Dungeon Crawl and they are giving me a hard time about return postage. This saves me the stuffing around :)

      • Will they cover for the return cost of items purchased prior to signing up to this offer ie item was purchased last week and sending an item back today?

        • Good question. I assumed so. Guess I'll find out!

        • @johnno07: I'm in the same situation too so will soon find out.

          Returned an item?
Submit a claim for your return shipping costs on any item purchased after you activated this service.
We'll review your claim and, if it's approved, your refund will appear in your PayPal account in about 10 business days.

        • Though items that aren't within the dispute period aren't accepted

        • Edit: Scratch that Paypal said i couldn't do it but i tried my luck anyways and Telus International Europe (The company that is involved with the refunds) still approved

      • double dip?

    • Usually when I buy off ebay, I don't get lied to by the buyer, but Auspost decided to play football with all their packages, so this offer is AWESOME

      • Hey mate, I have sold something recently and got damaged by AusPost, do they compensate the buyer in most cases? When the item is returned?

        • I'm not sure, I guess just make sure that the packaging is 100% secure. By that I mean about 20 rolls of bubble wrap :D

        • It is up to the receiver of goods damaged in the mail to present item & packaging to AusPost then proceed with a claim against them - not against the sender.

  • Interesting

  • Pretty decent

  • Aww, got excited thinking it was shipping to you. Still might be handy

True story that happened to me a few days ago:

-The ad on ebay said 128GB iphone 6 plus, mint condition. I won the auction at $890 thinking this is a bargain as it costs much much higher even today.
-package arrived and it was a 16gb iphone 6plus with a dent.
-The ad was false and an incorrect item was sent. So i claimed a "return"

Now, normally on ebay - Buyer pays for item + postage.
and also bears the costs associated with returning the item.

This is somehwat unfair to a legit , honest buyer, as I was out of pocket $10.55 when the "Seller" was the misleading LIAR that caused the problem in the first place.

step in this offer from PAYPAL to reimburse 4x shipping charges for returned items. so in essence PAYPAL will be reimbursing me the $10.55 I spent. so I won't be out of pocket now.

in my books that's a WINNER!!

Nah, you're behind when you take into account time and money wasted plus the stress about potential refund of nearly $1k.

        • +1

@TightBottom: we are on the same page!

        • @TightBottom:

True, agree I did stress and spend time calling ebay.
Atleast now the final $10.55 shall be back in my pocket. a bit of compensation I wouldn't have got back otherwise.

        • Nah, you're behind when you take into account time and money wasted plus the stress about potential refund of nearly $1k.

Nah, you're behind if you were crazy enough to have paid via bank deposit.

      • Oh I agree that in some cases some buyers who were jipped will be able to make legitimate use of it. It's the 95% of 'claims' that will inevitably be launched by dishonest/opportunistic 'buyers' that I'm foreshadowing. As if FeeBay was not already stacked way too heavily in favour of the buyer who 'dares' to simply get their money back and use/keep the item via launching a PayPay 'dispute', now this… there will be item substitutions (someones phone dies, so they 'buy' a new one then return their busted one), 'collusive-returns', etc

In fact it's hard to believe that PP would really launch this, in the manner described (particularly the "4 returns until July" bit…).

        Here's a good example:

"what's pc case gear's policy on that?
I want to buy the g502 mouse but I'm not sure if it'll be right for me, and if it isn't I'd like to be able to return it. is there like a satisfaction guarantee or anything of the sorts?"

Sure there is, just render it inoperative, then return it 'free of charge' via PPs brilliant new 'free return postage' returns policy. Four times.

I initially assumed this was an 'accidentally premature' April Fool's gag…

        • -3

Why are you wasting you life making posts like this? Are you returning something or is it just completely pointless commentary?

        • -1

          @Diji1:
Why are you wasting my life with such a feeble attempt to demonstrate the capacity for meaningful thought, when clearly you don't even have a basic grasp of the purpose of an interactive website?

With regard to ‘returning something’, I just had a look at the list of your posts. They consist entirely of you asking the community to inform you about things. So with regard to this community, one thing you could never be accused of is “returning something”. Do me a favour muchacho, and don’t even read any more of my posts in the future. If you see my nick on your screen, just assume that with regard to your ability to comprehend, what I am saying belongs in your “too hard” basket. And maaan, I'd hate to be the poor sap in charge of emptying that sucker every day…

          Cheers

        • To be fair, I'm pretty sure the people that do this weren't hanging out for free return postage.

      • I wonder how paypal regulates this. I mean, you received the wrong item, what if you also returned another different item (eg. iPhone 4)? It'll be your words vs the seller's. Will you still get a full refund?

      • Rule number one on ebay, never ever buy expensive stuff from a seller with less than 99% positive feedback. Anything under 99% is totally unacceptable for expensive stuff.

  • +3

11.1 We do not normally provide a refund if you have simply changed your mind about an Order, so please choose carefully.

I'd still call up and ask, terms say they don't do change of mine refunds though.

        • My friend just recently had this happen to him with a mouse and wasn't able to return it to pc case gear, though he wasn't expecting them to he still tried with a courteous email.

        • @Timothy-1:

I recently returned a change-of-mind mouse to CentreCom, they were more than happy to take it. I was simply alerted that there may be a $5 restocking fee if the packaging is damaged. Packaging had slight marks though I still didn't receive this fee, can't complain.

          tl;dr:
Give centrecom a shot if you want the insurance of change-of-mind returns.

        • @dyl: which centrecom you went?

        • @davidl2:

          Online.
I assume in store would be a similar policy.

  • +3

    good to know, but a refund isn't a deal….

    • +8

Yup. I thought it was (only) worthy of a forum topic a few days ago.

      • +2

I wonder how it went completely unnoticed there, yet gets ~50+ up-votes and >200 clicks within 2 hours in the middle of the night on a Monday, in the 'Deals' bit?!?

        • +2

That's just how it is… deals get the front page attentions, and are also pushed (eg RSS, OzB social media accounts) whereas most people tend to go to forums only when they want to find something specific or ask a question (rather than to browse/see what's new). I don't frequent the forums all that often myself TBH.

        • @quop:
What's your opinion on the policy? As the, erm, 'founding' erm…'founder' who erm.. 'found it'?

        • @GnarlyKnuckles:

I think it's a good move - mitigates one of the reasons for people not wanting to buy stuff online (ie potential hassles and cost of returning items).

Hopefully if it doesn't get abused/misused it'll become a permanent feature.

        • @quop:
Hmmm… I admire your optimism in one sense, but at the same time I question its wisdom…

          Time will tell!

        • @GnarlyKnuckles:

I don't see the point of doing something like this for a limited time only, hence I suspect it's a trial thing that would shape a longer term offering. The actual service is being provided by a company based in Bulgaria - don't know if it's a related entity or not.

        • +1

          @quop:
I find that "Bulgarian" aspect of it particularly bizarre… I mean, how is it possibly going to work? Who will actually verify independently that the goods returned to the seller are in fact faulty? Someone in Bulgaria? How can it possibly work? Initially I thought I'd "slept a day" and it was already April 1st; and this whole bizzarro thing was a bad "April Fool's" joke…

  • DOes it work wiht international shipping?

    • BEtter do. Waht else is there?

    • If you follow the link you'll see (in big font, emphasis mine):

One less thing to worry about. Your return shipping costs refunded worldwide.

      • Mmmyeah; the mind boggles at the financial/practical logistics that would be required to actually achieve this… Some parts of the world simply do not have reliable/accountable postal services. Many, in fact. I wonder how the scheme will work re these regions.

This is a new short term service, not a bargain.

    • As in a short term service that saves money? Sounds like a deal to me..

  • -1

In my books if an item isn't correct, return is paid by seller. No questions asked.

That been said, the way this offer's worded I assume it also applies for change-of-mind returns,in that case I would consider it a win.

    • +1

"… the way this offer's worded I assume it also applies for change-of-mind returns"

That is ludicrous. Which part of the wording led you to that conclusion?

      • The post mentions nothing stating change-of-mind returns aren't eligible. Furthermore, decided to actually give the terms and conditions a quick look over and couldn't find a single thing about change-of-mind returns, it was more all along the lines of "as well as it isn't against the sellers return policy, we're cool to refund the return postage". As a fair few eBay stores are quite happy to accept change-of-mind returns (some with a restocking fee however), this (in some cases) isn't against any kind of return policy.

        • "… couldn't find a single thing about change-of-mind returns"

That wasn't a clue for you?

        • @GnarlyKnuckles:

when can't I use this service?

Items that cannot be returned in accordance with the seller’s general conditions of sale (e.g. the seller’s deadline for returns has passed)

With this statement in mind, it's safe to assume that if it's in accordance with the sellers return policy, they'll cover the cost.

        • @dyl:
I rest my case. It's safe to assume that you've completely misinterpreted that bit of text you've 'quoted' above, in the context of this thread.

        • @GnarlyKnuckles:

I guess we'll have to wait and see when someone tries and gets a reply.
From my point of view the whole relaxed terms and "just get seller approval and send it back then send us proof of postage cost" really gives me the assumption they would cover it. I'm not saying anyone should go out and buy things assuming change-of-mind returns are defiantly covered, though if anyone already has an item they've purchased and changed their mind about, I'd give it a shot. More than likely it'll be covered, even if it is against terms (despite not being stated) and is provided as simply a once off gesture due to the confusion in their terms and conditions.

        • @dyl:
So you're suggesting that "… just get seller approval" means that sellers will be happy to accept their products being sent back to them by the buyer, and will refund the buyer the money, within some unspecified time-frame, just because PayPal has decided to float this bizarre policy? Really?

You do understand that this experimental/trial PayPal-based postage policy actually has nothing to do with recovering the actual cost of the item, right?

        • @GnarlyKnuckles:

I did some what assume people would understand they do need to check the sellers policy before returning an item for a change-of-mind refund, though I still did imply it above, did I not?

"just get seller approval and send it back then send us proof of postage cost"

          And

With this statement in mind, it's safe to assume that if it's in accordance with the sellers return policy, they'll cover the cost (of postage).

The PayPal terms on this offer directly state you need acceptance from the seller before anything happens. I assumed people would've read this..
I mean on top of this, if someone sends an item back without first contacting the seller (even for a warranty claim), then they really need some common sense… I believe it's safe to assume OzBargain's a lot smarter than this and doesn't require me to give a warning not to simply jump the gun and send an item back without first contacting the seller for approval.

P.S: You understand I am stating PayPal only covers the cost of the return postage correct? I'm not at all saying they will cover the cost of the item.

  • Hopefully I get my card today! :)

  • Finally Paypal returns something back to the community!

    • +1

Just the buyer community, to be specific.

    • No such thing as a community. Do you and other bank customers call yourself the bank's community? We are all paypal customers. The seller pay fees, we pay fees. Paypal profit. Elon Musk builds spaceship.

  • How is this a deal? It's a form of buyer security and should not be abused. Should be in the forum.

    • Mods let it go because of the votes it got

  • +5

I would hate to be a seller on eBay these days! lol

    So rife for abuse.

    • +1

Yeah, I decided to sell something on eBay a few weeks back, and they didn't give me my money until about 3 weeks after the buyer had received the item. Apparently that stops happening if you've sold enough but I've sold a few things with 100% positive feedback but now they're treating me like a scammer.

      • This new policy didn't just occur to you, it occurred to me too. 100% positive feedback, but I've only sold 8 things.

        • Yeah I know. Its just silly that the minimum to avoid that crap is like 10 or 12 things.

      • lol, it's too early to relax yet.

just wait until the buyer does a "money back guarantee" on you in July.

…after claiming the item is fake (so doesn't have to post back)! lol

  • +3

Well this would be a great way to buy clothes off eBay, if it doesn't fit, just send it back for free!

  • -6

I better not forget to create a deal on how the ATO is giving tax refunds at the end of June…

On a serious note eBay is rife with scammers and idiots already, this is only going to exacerbate the situation.

    • -3

      Bro Story Cool

    • Yes we know it's not a "deal" but I hardly read the forums and wouldn't have been aware of this otherwise, so deal or not, I'm happy it ended up on the front page.

      • Open the flood gates.

      • This kind of mentality is why we got free wifi deals recently, it's not a physical item, it's not a goods or service that is readily accessible, it's dependant on a purchase going pear shaped

  • I'm curious- What would this mean for sellers? They footing this bill?

    • Sellers don't get affected as the buyer usually foots the bill for shipping.

  • Damn…returned something yesterday at $15!!!!!!

    • +1

      Did you keep the receipt?
If you have the receipt you can still submit the claim.
I paid $10.50 last week to return the defective item.
Did the claim on Monday night after reading this deal.
And it worked, they approved it.
So All you need is the receipt and a tracking numbers. And just write down the seller's return address on the receipt, and you will be right.

      • +1

Yeah, I've got the receipt. Going to try now, thanks for potentially saving me $15.05.
