Basically, you end up paying $109.72 for 1 year and got $100 back as giftcard

    • +3

cancel after 40 days so its $13 for a $100 card for me for 10 min work. Why not

I did this with the coles life insurance offer and got 20000 Flybuy points equal to $100 and it cost me $10

Make sure you put in a reminder though at 40 days

      • after how many days you can cancel the Coles one and still get the points?

      • -1

where do you get 13 dollar from ?

        • Its in the OP

Mine was $4.22 a fortnight and i asked for the premium to be deducted right away. SO for ~ $13, you get a $100 eftpos gift card which is a good deal IMHO

But depending on your answers and age its from $1.46 / week

        • @easternculture:

I still do not get where do you get 13 dollar from

          is three fortnights ?

        • @nick286:

          40 days?

        • @nick286:
Because his weekly fortnight charge is $4.22. That times 3 is $12.66, and I would imagine he wanted to make sure it would be 40 days which is a bit over 5 weeks (right between 2 and three fortnights)

        • @easternculture:

Remember to cancel the insurance though because it's basically a horrible company to deal with if you have a claim to make, one of the reasons they have to offer deals like these.

They were also the chosen partner for insurance in Amway and other such companies,

In general horrible company but a good deal if you are sure you;ll cancel in 40 Days.

  • "Family Life Cover"
    So singles are excluded? Darn

    • +1

nope. I took it up as single. They confirmed ill be getting a gift card. They dont ask for family details

      • Ah cool, and it can be cancelled easily enough?

        • +2

yes, they just ask you why your cancelling.

I usually say because my work is offering me a deal through their insurer

        • +24

          @easternculture:
you don't just say "I just wanted to make a quick $87…I've got another 100 polices I want to cancel, can you do it, or do I have to call back?"

        • +3

          @supabrudda:

          That what broden would do

  • +2

    Real deal.

I would never deal with real insurance after working there

    • +1

      why?

      • +3

its like a SWEATSHOP of teenagers calling thousands of people to try and sell them life insurance

        • +10

But ozbargain is calling them now. Lets return the favour.

Lets all get $100 Eftpos cards.

IMHO, its better than applying for credit cards to get Cashback or points as this doesnt affect your credit rating

        • +2

I think that's the case with most "budget" insurance companies. At least they have an Australian call centre.

        • +1

          @easternculture:
at least they will get paid their commision as you have the cover for longer than 30 days.

        • +2

          @tuzii:

SO its a win win for the RI Reps and Ozbargainers and probably a loss for Real Insurance when thousands are just signing up for FREE cash

        • +6

          @easternculture:
          good luck cancelling though……
needs to be written on gold plated paper with the ink of 100 virgins.

youll end up wasting more than $100 of your own time canceling.

        • @tuzii:

          needs to be written

Maybe 10 years ago. In this time and age, everything is done electronically.

He did say i can cancel by phone anytime if my conditions changed. Its all on the phone recording

If they insist, i can fax them a signed letter from work same day.

        • +4

          @tuzii:
I'm afraid to ask, but where does the ink of a virgin come from?

        • +1

I'd have to agree there. They were so persistent with their calls that I had to block their number

        • @arend:
          the same place unicorns are

        • @easternculture:

Hell yeah! Let's show 'em the power of OZBargain!!! Rawrrrr!!

        • @tuzii:

easternculture, you seem to think that if they've recorded it, YOU can somehow use that against them. That's not how that works.

        • +2

          @tuzii:
This is how we get unicorns:

A kid with an ice cream was like "Ooh pony".
The kid tried to ride it but dropped his ice cream on the pony's head.
The cone stayed and when the pony had a baby, the baby had a horn.

  • Thanks easternculture! Pretty interesting deal!

    • your welcome miss beans

      • Would you recommend using their online get a quote system? :)

        • +3

no. call them. They answered me right away and policy was setup in literally 10 min max

Oh , and tell them easternculture says Hi .. lol

        • +5

          @easternculture:
          what 10 mins!
the ad says it takes a few minutes
all they need is your age and smoking status! :P

        • +1

@easternculture: you deserve a referral fee for recommending the hoards of ozbargainers to sign up

        • @djones145:

they need to read you these annoying declerations, and you have to say yes

i also was talking to him for 3 min asking him to confirm stuff for the purpose of the phone recording on their end

  • +5

Don't know how I feel morally about taking their money and cancelling.

    • +4

DO you feel the same way about FREE QFF points and Cashback via credit cards with $0 annual fees? :D

      • +1

Do you mean getting a credit card with bonus rewards points and then cancelling?

That may be a little different as the bank/card company will expect people to just get the points and cancel and yet they don't do anything to stop them.

Not saying that it is morally wrong but just that I'm not sure how I feel about it.

        • It's cheaper for you to buy directly from them than for them to pay an adviser commission. Life insurance is sold not bought, so this is very cheap for them. Plus their premiums are ridiculously high (compare them to the premiums you pay through super- like for like). Effectively the premium is almost 100% profit for them after a few months. If 50% of people stick they are still well ahead.

Also it is not someone who doesn't understand what they are doing introducing this deal. They know what they are doing, they just hope there are people up there who don't cancel their insurance. They will make it very difficult to cancel, i.e. will try talk you down.

So in short, don't feel sorry for this mob, just enjoy your money as you do need to do some work for it.

    • +5

Lol they're not exactly a charity mate

      • lol

      • And yet it seems they are being quite charitable with this deal.

    • happens alot in the industry

financial advisors usually sign you up for a year, get massive initial commissions then churn you to the next provider

work for a company with a life insurer so its good its not them! lol

    • +4

You could always die after the 40 days and that way know you've actually used the policy for what it was intended for

      Plus $100 cash!

    • I work at a law firm that helps people struggling with insurance claims.

You should NOT feel bad about taking money from REAL Insurance.

  • +10

The real bargain would be to take out the insurance, get the gift card, then fake your death :)
Payout, $100 gift card, and you dont even have to call up to cancel the policy.
    It's a foolproof winwin situation

    • How can you fake your death.

If you just need a death certificate, ive got that covered

      • +2

        Surely this should suffice.
Just need a quick trip to the morgue, grab a spare body, buy a tub of acid, and dissolve the sucker.
Then sit and wait for profits to come in :)
Also probably read the t&c to see if they cover death by acid….

  • DONE! My policy took 18 min to setup over the phone. The only thing I'm concern about now is how long it will take to cancel this policy.

Hopefully not as painful as the sign up process…

    Fingers crossed!

    • from my experience with the last one i signed up to (coles insurance), it was immediatly

If this promotion is interfered with in any way or is not capable of being conducted as reasonably anticipated due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter, the Promoter reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion and to the fullest extent permitted by law to: (a) disqualify any claimant; or (b) modify, suspend, terminate, or cancel the promotion, as appropriate.

    15. HFS has the right, at its absolute discretion, to refuse to accept or vary or discontinue this offer without notice.

    How convenient for them!

    • This.

Anyone want to have a bet (also known as insurance) that this clause is exercised? Especially if this a popular deal.

Sounds like a similar scenario with the News Ltd newspapers/ Rebel gift card (?) deal about a year ago. (they didn't honour the gift cards)

      • +2

For the record, I signed up for that Rebel deal and DID get a gift card!

      • +2

i got 2 rebel gift cards lol

    • +2

It's almost at every T&C I've read in a cashback promotion. But personally, if they refuse to give me the gift card, my defense is that I join your insurance solely because of the attractive gift card. Not sure if it's going to work, though.

  • Won't they bother you with phone calls from now on?

    • Use one of those $2 prepaid sims and throw it away afterwards.

    • +1

weird. They didnt ask me for a phone number

  • +2

I tried a quote and got the message: Cover only available for people born between 1951 and 1997. Bastards!

    • +1

How old are you? They will never cover you for death if you are over 65!! The risk is too high.

      • Maybe grips is only 17 years old.

        • +6

Ahh I'm sure he'll come to grips with it

  • +2

I doubt theyll honor several hundred thousand dollar worth of gift cards in exactly 40 days.

    • Just make sure you ask them to confirm the $100 before you end the call so it can be on the recording

      • +2

Without even looking, ill bet there is an escape clause in the details of their offer.

And if not, they will say they had a rogue rep who made the confrimation in error.

Plus, the recordings are probably made on a potato

But hey, if you got the time to try it, and willing to pencil in the probable hassle of cancelling, i hope it works for you! Im all for alleviating these companies of some $$

      • +4

LOL you think if their recording is there to help you?

  • +6

Almost finished signed up on the phone, but then it just felt wrong…
I'll skip this one, thanks anyway :)

    • Its not wrong when these companies are ripping off the world.

    • This is just selfish unethical and wrong. And the poor genuine bastard that has a policy will pay for this through next years premium.

    • +1

Yeah this whole deal has paralells to the movie The Wedding Crashers.
Creating/closing bank accounts was the the whole crashing of weddings (and was fun, harmless etc)
However creating/closing life insurance policies is like the "funeral crashers" scene. It's a bit more serious :)

  • +2

Thanks. Something to do on my drive to work

  • You will only get the gift voucher for the "Real Family Life Cover Policy". If they told you otherwise on the phone, they lied, make sure you get it all in writing. Trust me.

    • I asked for the life insurance with a $100 gift card if that helps

Just checked my email and got this from them

      Welcome to Real Insurance!

      Dear EasternCulture,

Congratulations, your Family Life Cover application has been accepted.

      Your Policy Number: XXXXXXXXX

Application Date and Time: 25/03/2015 13:XX
You can now enjoy peace of mind knowing that if the unexpected happens you and your loved ones are protected.

      • As long as it says Family Life Cover then you're all good.

  • +5

Just a thought…. if you take out this policy you might want to check it doesn't void any other policies you have.

Just incase sh*t does down in the 40 days you have this policy.

  • this one might be free but the rep kept giving me offers from 1million and he didn't wana go under 500k until I said "II just want to try this out, so I want to go with the minimum. I want to see how the customer service is etc." was a pain in the ass.

    • +1

      Wait till you try cancelling

      • Actually, after reading 1stozbargainers post, I might just try cancel this now. The coles ones sounds much better. I buy my groceries from coles so. That one is prob better.

  • +6

Just tried to cancel and omg, they don't have a direct number for the cancellation department and the guy told me that he has to organise a callback and he doesn't have the authority to do it and they don't have a direct number. Not looking good lol.

    • +4

when i worked there, there was 1 person in cancellations
      and 200+ selling the product

      • +1

Lol imagine if that person goes on stress leave once the cancellation calls start rolling in from us haha

        • Well, I got a callback and the girl was able to cancel it straight away because I signed up for it today. Might go with ther coles one. So thanks op for mentioning it.

    • do it in writing / email / fax

  • +1

Do you think we can stack this offer with their $75 EFTPOS gift card promotion for signing up to their Funeral Insurance?

    • +2

lol, all they need to do now is offer health insurance and they have all bases covered!

      • they already do, its called Choosi

  • $15.55/fortnight for me … no worth it

    • +4

You must be a chain smoking alcoholic base jumper or similar?

    • did u ask for the $100k cover or did he just offer you $500k

  • +2

I'm really torn about whether to jump into this. It sounds like it would be extremely easy to sign up for but harder to cancel than a Fitness First membership (which I had to cancel my CC to get out of!)

    • Based on experience (AMEX), cancelling CC alone will not stop a company for being able to still charge on your cancelled CC. Of course you can dispute to have the charges reversed, but it's a PITA.

    • Same

  • +1

Be aware of this (un)Real Insurance, got lot of bad reviews in Product Review.com.au

  • +1

Although this is a deal, the advice at the top of the page amounts to a rather morally questionable practice. Can a mod please remove the advice to join, and then cancel? It's against the spirit of the website, and not what we should be promoting here.

    • +2

Agree 100%. I hate insurance companies as much as the next person but to deliberately encourage this sort of behaviour is not on.

      • Sadly it's endlessly encouraged around here
